3:36 Something I found interesting is the service techs at my local dealership recommend 8oz of the limited slip fluid. I don’t usually play around with fluids, hence why I was picking up Mopar brand from the dealership when the tech mentioned this. Owners manual of 15 JKU Willy’s w/ Trac-Loc recommends 4oz, but I was willing to trust the guy considering he’s retirement age and been at the same place since I was a kid.

Interesting. The recommended amount is 1oz/pint - there are 2 pints in a quart and 2 quarts in the rear of the jk = 4oz. Been running one bottle (4oz) for 4 years since I’ve been doing my fluid changed and there’s no noises or issues from the diff. 8oz is probably fine but probably overkill.

Great video. I have recently been contemplating doing these fluid changes myself, and seeing it done (including the skid plate and actual fluid adds) gave me the confidence to try it!

Awesome! I’m glad I could show you it’s not so bad! Easier than engine oil. The skid plate is even easier to take off if you don’t have any extra aftermarket skids like I have. I believe it’s 3 18mm bolts.

You should checked the chain tension in the transfer case

Great video!!! You can purchase teflon tape in different widths. You were using 3/4" or larger, which is useful on larger diameter fittings. Next time try 1/4" width, it will be much easier to use.

Haha thank you! I wasn’t paying attention to size when I ordered it, but I did notice this one was a bit wide. The tape was all smushed in on the sides somehow so it was sticking and coming out in shreds lol. It did the job though once I actually got it to come out whole!

What is the top fill hole for on the rear dif ? just wondering ! Nice job, and saving cash that can be used elsewhere is always great !

Thank you! To be honest, I don’t even know what the top hole is really for. I’ve opened it before to stick something in there to check fluid after a deep water crossing lol! But you definitely wouldn’t want that much fluid in the diff or it would make too much pressure. I always try to do as much as I can on my own. I can only imagine how much money I’ve saved by doing all my own mods and maintenance.
