I've been there in pouring rain, a snow storm and high winds and the guards never batted an eye.....and carried on despite the weather......a tribute to their dedication to their sworn duty guarding the Tomb.....!

This is a tough group to join, and even tougher to say in. One veteran ‘Tomb Guard’ stated it’s easier to earn the Tomb Guard badge, but harder to wear it.

General Washington would be proud.

It's perfectly fine, but still it feels so weird to see the guards without sunglasses. As a Finn and living over here in Finland I have only the KZfaq videos to see them and so far in all of them it has been so sunny. :D :) Major respect for their dedication! -Finnish reserve medic

i guess they skipped the weapon inspection due to the rain? Makes sense, i mean how do you give a white glove inspection when everything's wet.

The uniform and the precision that they do is absolutely astonishing giving them the trench coat makes them look even more badass lol

When I was little, part of me questioned the "pointlessness" of doing all of this just for a slab of marble. But as an adult, it is simply impossible to not respect and admire this extreme level of dedication, once it sinks in that these men and women have been doing this ceremony, without stopping, down to the slightest millimeter, uninterrupted for over a hundred years, and will continue to do it, through however many more hundreds of years we humans remain on this earth. Be it during clear skies, rain, snow, hurricanes, or even the 9/11 attacks, they have done this ceremony and will continue to do this ceremony, potentially until the end of time if need be. Pure respect.

Amazing and humbling, even watching a video. The respect these soldiers have for their duty is a great sight to behold. And the respect shown by those witnessing is also wonderful.

Noticed the inspection of the weapon wasn't performed. Granted with the rain and all that rifle would have to be like trying to hold onto a giant icicle in that rain.

I been watching several of these changing of the guards and it just puts me in aww of all the movements it takes to do this i get a little emotional watching these

When the tomb was first built it was almost level with the top of the stairs and tourists would sit or stand on it while having lunch and viewing the scenery. I think it was Cooledge who saw this and became outraged and sent a guard out to keep the tourists off the tomb. That's how this whole thing got started.

This is our nation's most honorable duty in all wars to all soldiers that gave their life so we today can live free therefore under all circumstances of weather conditions the guards can't part Because this is their goal the respect the whole respect & enternal respect to all dead

I have only respect to these soldiers guarding the tomb and to the tomb as well. Hopefully when I get there, when I get to see a changing of the guard, I will salute and say a silent thanks to these soldiers.

When we were there it was during a thunderstorm. I was completely soaked...and highly impressed by the bearing and demeanor of the tomb guard. I'm quite sure he was soaked too, but he betrayed no hint of it.

Every day and night of your freedom loving life this has been going on. Like the waves against the shore.

something of interest to note in this particular vid. The inspection did not include the relieving soldier's weapon. Which is normal procedure. Not sure if the inspection was abbreviated due to the weather but I noticed they didn't check his rifle for compliance.

Not that it's a competition or anything, but I've seen many videos of this, and the soldier at 1:11 switches hands more slowly/methodically than I've seen in other vids which I was thought was neat; could actually see all of the hand movements rather than when they do it as fast as possible.

Wonder when this was taken. The actions of their left hands is different than other vids I've seen during some of the manuals. I know the routine had changed over the years.

You're familiar with those various line made in the cement over various decades? I even wrote to the Army Corps of Engineers. Response was "We have received thousands of ideas how to erase those marks. Nothing is going to work." Unless the rebuild the Tomb that is walked by Sentinels, and nobody else has access to.

Don't know if I just missed it, but I didn't see the inspecting guard check over the rifle when he did the uniform inspection like they normally do. I'm guessing this is because they don't want water getting into the inner parts of the gun?
