Very helpful video. And I appreciate "the honesty" regarding you having already changed the brake pads the day before. This "confession" makes you "more human" and definitely increases your credibility! Very cool !

Make sure to open the brake fluid reservoir so that fluid goes out when you push the piston; or take out some fluid

I mentioned that in a reply to another comment, but it's great that you pointed it out so that information is more visible :) Thanks for watching the video!

Excellent presentation, no kidding. Of course my pads just began to squeal and grind today very slightly and this video has made my task so much easier. Thank you very much. It will be a cold January install but at least I know how to do this certainly with your help.

Thanks, man! In my fervor to remember everything, I neglected to mention greasing the pins as well. Those are what the bolts screw into. They just pop right out of the rubber boots. Wipe off the old grease, and apply new grease. The pins and the sliders are the most common sources for squealing brakes...

I thought my brakes needed replacement because they were squeaking. When I pulled the wheels off and inspected the pads, they looked nearly brand new! Not sure why my brakes intermittently squeak but at least I know that it isn't the pads. Thanks again for the vid!

zegro95 I'd go ahead and grease the pins and slides. Probably what's happening is the old grease has pretty much worn off. The rear brakes don't wear nearly as fast as the fronts. Glad you saved yourself some labor and money!

Very good video by Donald. Very clear and to the point. I own a 2007 and a 2009 Crown Vic Police Interceptors. Do you by chance have any videos for removing an engine from a 2007 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor? Or direct me to a good video for removing Crown Vic engines. Thanks.

Great video, I learned a lot. Unfortunately, I don't have the right tools, pavement (I live on a farm), or time. I have a question. I have a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria Police like yours. My car's engine wouldn't start because of bad coils and plugs. I changed the plugs and coils so it starts now. But once I finally fixed the engine problem and started driving, I noticed my brakes making noise. When I checked it out, one side of the rear brakes had the pads worn out and was scratching the rotor. I took it to a mechanic to diagnose, and it turns out the brakes on the bad side are sticking. They said the caliper needs to be replaced. I guess sitting for so long, and getting hit with the sprinkler water caused rust and the brakes got stuck. So my question is. Do you know what calipers the Crown Victoria Police use? Are they regular Crown Victoria calipers or a specific kind for police cars? Thank you for the help.

I've since sold the car, but learned many parts are different on the CVPI. The wiper motor went out, and the PI uses a different one than the civilian model, for example. For brake pads, I always bought regular pads; the store never asked if my car was an Interceptor. My guess would be the caliper is the same as the civilian model, but the parts store should have that info. Use a piece of 3/4" plywood to Jack up the car, that should help stabilize it. Good luck! :)

Hi, Thanks for the video. I'm wondering about how the E-brake set up is attached. You didn't have to mess with it. Is the E-brake sort a drum brake inside the hat/hub under/inside the disc? I would rather leave the E-brake alone. When I change the rear pads/discs on my 2009 police CV.
@abetteractor
@abetteractor 7 жыл бұрын
That's correct. Unless you're changing the rotor, you don't have to remove it to change the pads. The emergency brake is another setup; if you do have to change the rotor, don't set the E-brake. Since the car is jacked up in the rear anyway, the E-brake won't do any good, lol. Instead, make sure the front wheels are chocked.

pauljolry I did pads and rotors on the rear but anytime I apply the brakes a little bit it makes a slight noise. But when I brake hard or normal it sounds fine. 09 cvpi

Lol, glad to help! Something I say near the end that I should've said at the beginning- it helps to take a picture of it before you start, because the pads seem to be be side specific regarding the tension spring.

I'm a rural mail carrier, and go through brakes frequently. Even with perfectly smooth rotors, I'm lucky if my front brakes last a year 😂 With the rear brakes, they lasted about two years, and they weren't new when I got the car :) I do recommend in the video to get the rotors turned when changing pads, though. Best of luck to you, hope you're staying safe!

@@u.f.a.6576 Try rocking it back and forth in kind of a rolling motion. I think i talked about that in the video. Also, remove the cap from the master cylinder. That should help relieve the pressure in the brake lines. Hope that helps!

Elias Wesley Wow. Just for the rear brakes?? I've never done the brakes on a regular CV, but always bought the cheapest pads for my PI (I'm a rural mail carrier, so pads wear out faster than normal) from Auto Zone, and they worked just fine. As far as pads go, I don't know which pads would be Police Spec. Part of that crazy high price is the labor, so you're saving a TON of money doing it yourself! The only cost you should have is the pads and pin grease- $30 or so. Make sure everything is tightened down when you put it back together, and you should be good to go!
