In this video I replace the stock police interceptor brake pads with some Power Stop Evolution Sport brake pads. Links to the parts are below. This video is the front pads but I also show you how to change the rotor and remove the caliper if you need to do those too. Next video will be the rear pads.

Great find regarding those torque specs for the 18mm bolts. The Haynes manual doesnt mention them, and i had no idea that 2006 and newer were less than 118

I knew I had to come watch this be done. I'll be replacing the pads and rotors on my car this weekend. I went with Wagner parts. Your video broke it down easy. This may sound bad but this is the first time I'm replacing them after owning the car for about 7 years. They are finally worn. The glove idea is cool.

Get a big enough C-clamp to press the caliper pistons back into the caliper. Prying the caliper back doesn't hurt anything, but driving them back with a clamp works really well and doesn't force the pistons at an angle. Make sure to check how full your master cylinder is before pressing the calipers back, if it's too full it'll dump brake fluid out into the engine compartment! This is also a good time to go ahead and flush the brake system out as the calipers will have little old fluid in them. Flushing can really improve the feel of your brakes, and a fresh set of new brake hoses aren't a bad idea either. Rotors are cheap, in some cases little more then what the auto parts store charges for turning them, helps to shop around. You're doing the job anyways, may as well do all you can and not have to do anything again for a while.

yeah, I flushed the fluid before this video so mine is fairly new, but yes, definitely made a big difference. I'll probably do rotors next time and maybe even hoses. Thanks for the tips.

If you're putting on pads, you don't have to open the brake bleeder. Just slowly and evenly push the piston back into the caliper. Set pads in hanger, tighten up caliper, done.
@WJHandyDad
@WJHandyDad 3 жыл бұрын
the reason I do it is threefold - one the fluid doesn't get pushed back into the master cylinder and two it makes me bleed the brakes afterward so I have at least fresher fluid in there and three they are easier to compress with the bleeder open

i open the master cylinder cap, then I push back the caliber piston to release the caliber from the brake disc.
@WJHandyDad
@WJHandyDad 5 жыл бұрын
I used to do that, but it leaves the potential of spilling fluid and also the fluid absorbing air in the open master cylinder. Opening the bleeder valve solves the issue, bleeds it, and drains some of the most abused fluid so it's a win-win

No shop will do it correctly like you did , they hack it out in a few minutes and anything they break by doing a crappy job , then go and tell you that you had failing parts and charge you even more . They never take Pride in the job , no matter how simple, unless it V is on their own vehicle or their friends ..

hello which way do you loosen the caliber bolt(18mm) on the left side of the front wheel up or down? clockwise or counter clock wise?
@WJHandyDad
@WJHandyDad 2 жыл бұрын
all of them are normal bolts, "righty tighty, lefty-loosey." Just set your ratchet to loosen and whichever way it is turning is correct

Hey again, what brand brake pads and rotors more common? I'm considering on getting NAPA's Fleet Line, Motorcraft, and Duralast. Does it really matter? Does any make a difference on the CVPI?
@WJHandyDad
@WJHandyDad 4 жыл бұрын
if I have to do it again I'll probably just use the lifetime warranty pads from a major retailer. I can't say that there is a noticeable difference in stopping power at least from the feel of the driver's seat.

I'm doing the rear rotors on my 09 Vic soon but I see a lot of people messing with the E brake adjuster, is it really necessary to adjust it?
@WJHandyDad
@WJHandyDad 5 жыл бұрын
It serves at least 2 purposes. 1. if you can't get the rotor off, you'll need to adjust to get the rotor replaced and 2. if the parking brake isn't grabbing properly and you've already tried the adjustment under the driver side rear door, you can adjust the grab of the parking brake shoes.

Which side of the car is this? Front left or front right?
@WJHandyDad
@WJHandyDad 2 жыл бұрын
I'd have to watch the video again, but if my memory is correct I often filmed both sides and used the best footage from each side because sometimes there would be lighting issues or my shoulder would be blocking the camera view

@@WJHandyDad because I have a seized caliber bolt and I was wondering which way you turn as far as taking it off. It’s a 18mm I was wondering if you go down or up as far as taking it off.
