I really like the new Milwaukee Compact Drill... more than I initially thought I would. But I can't stand the chuck on the drill! So will a chuck swap change the one thing that I don't like about the drill?

Note that the chuck screw/bolt has left-hand threads!

You are correct I neglected to mention that. As I said, not intended as a tutorial it should be pointed out so thank you!

@@TinkerWithTools Yeah, I just noticed as you were removing it (and I've replaced a chuck or two in the past as well), so I thought I'd point it out for anyone else who wanted to give it a try.

Morning Tinker !!! Wow, gotta say it looks ‘sleeker’ with that M12 chuck on it. Wonder if it will add any RPM’s with that red stripe? 🤔🤣 I know that “tools are tools,” and they are made to use, but it actually improved the aesthetics of the drill. The OEM chuck is not all that bad, but it was definitely made to a price point, and I DO get what You and others are saying. It seems to lock down well, but not as positive as other chucks? Like I said before, releasing/ loosening the chuck is where I have an issue with it. Keep em coming Tinker! 👍💪😊

Definitely looks better with that chuck. Been using this drill for my work. Industrial electrical. It’s great. I do wish it had the anti-kickback for when I’m hole-sawing electrical panels though.

Yeah anti kickback is starting to feel like something I want on most drills.

Ive only done a chuck swap once, and that was on a drill that constantly spat out bits like a northern fisherman eating cod. Having a good chuck and clutch on a drill makes alot more meaning to me personally than having the highest power figure, but at the same time its not something I feel is worth doing on alot of them. Been eyeballing this particular one for a bit though, but never ended up getting it.

Financially I would just tell you to buy another drill versus buying this one just to chuck swap but for me, already having the drill it was worth the cost to experiment. The fact that it got smaller was just a nice byproduct. But in the end I agree with you having a nice chuck that grips well but is also nice to use makes all the difference in a drill.

even more compact and even a bit beatiful 😂❤ I know a bit about Milwaukee chuck or TTI whole Some modern have M14 threaten which a bit bigger than normal 1/2 inch chuck which have M12 or 12.7mm on ROHM you can search for the threaten diameters in the chuck infomations box
@TinkerWithTools
@TinkerWithTools 28 күн бұрын
I appreciate you sharing. The Rohm chuck wasn’t off by a lot but it was just a little bigger.

@@TinkerWithTools maybe i was right The threaten on M18 brushless was M12 or 12.7mm while your Rohm chuck was M14 which for some specification Modern which have M14 threaten like Milwaukee Gen4 Hammer drill

I really am enjoying it more now. I wish they made it easier to buy genuine Milwaukee parts. It’s sad that buying a whole new tools was the best and almost the most economical option there was.

i have done or attempted this more then 1/2 dozen times . a few came off like yours ,easily .but some did not .took a sledge to one .after watching yours come off so smoothly i feel inspired again .my gen 3 big drill might be getting a rohn chuck soon .i am wondering how do rohn compare the milwaukee . someone 'claimed' the rohn doesn't loose grip on bits as much .

Yeah I tried removing a DEWALT chuck on that same day and it didn’t ever come off. At least not in the amount of time I tried. I was truly surprised at how easy it was to remove both of the Milwaukees

You should call it your compact Fuel drill.

Trademark pending! Honestly though with how much I love the DCD800, Milwaukee needs to make that happen. Something with 800-900 inch pounds, 1/2” shorter than the current Gen 4 with auto stop! Add a small forge battery and I would be in for that.
@Griffinwoodworks

@@TinkerWithTools I’d sell both my gen 3 fuel and my compact like that one for something like that. Even if it’s marginally longer than the compact, that’d be perfect for my needs. As long as it had the clutch from the compact. The electronic clutch on the fuel is useless lol.
@TinkerWithTools
@TinkerWithTools 28 күн бұрын
The Gen 4 went back to a mechanical clutch. So I would hope that they would do the same on this fictional drill that I am dreaming up. Also I would want auto stop on it. The DEWALT is powerful enough to get you in a precarious situation every now and then. Having that safety tech that I can turn off if I want would be ideal.

Wonder if you can swap the metal dewakt XR chuck onto the atomic and get rid of the cheap plastic covered chuck on the atomic ?

I tried removing the DCD799 chuck to replace it with the rohm I wasn’t using but I wasn’t as successful at removing the DEWALT on the first attempt. Plus at that point I would rather just have the more powerful 800.

Quick question. How was your Milwaukee M2 that you bought off Amazon? I purchased one earlier on in the year and it burnt out on me pretty quickly. It started smoking and it cooked one of my batteries. I’m thinking that maybe they refurbished? What do you think?

I am always hesitant when I buy off Amazon simply because they aren’t an authorized retailer but everything with that tool has been perfect. It was in like new condition and for the price I figured it was worth the gamble.

It’s not the exact same chuck on the gen 2 m12 fuel but very similar and it was always one thing I liked less about that drill and I was happy they improved upon with the Gen 3.
