Glad you are spending more time exploring NC. I believe your dates are incorrect. The parkway was started in 1935 and mostly completed by 1966. The viaduct around grandfather mountain was completed in 1987 not 1938 and that 7.7 mile section completed the blue ridge parkway..

The roads do kinda remind me of the Tahoe area but the trees are not the same. When you were at that overlook it did resemble looking out off of one of the overlooks down in the lower Oak forests out here, I was thinking the same as you. Very pretty for sure, but as the locals used to say..."There is only one great lake and that is Lake Tahoe". The traffic in the Tahoe Basin is now dang near unworkable in the summer. We are less about an hour away and don't go at all in summer...especially weekends.

Next time you go to Grandfather Mtn area, do it via I-26 through Weaverville and stay at Mountain River RV. You'll love it. It's in Spruce Pine and 4 lane all the way from TN to there except the last few miles and that's still roomy roads. I'm with you on holding your breath on Hwy 221. Definitely not for big rigs!

@willrucker1628
@willrucker1628 7 ай бұрын
I am guessing that you noticed how rough the BRP is in that area. And the viaduct being the last thing built on the BRP, the project was running short on funds. Instead of digging up the stumps and roots from the trees that were removed for the road they just cut them at ground level and built the road on top of them. Well, eventually those stumps and roots rotted and cause the pot holes and very unevenness of the BRP through that area. Glad you guys are back on the road and enjoying what God created.

We have family in Blowing Rock and now we can consider that Parkway with our 23LDE. Gloves are a must with diesel but I find Harbor Freight disposables work best as I don’t want dirty gloves near the inside of my truck. When you pull off the vinyl gloves, they turn inside out and are safe to handle and throw away. We have your truck but an F350 SRW. Rapid Red is beautiful!

Been following you guys for the last year. We just started our RV traveling. Retired and purchased a Ford F250 and small 5th wheel. Not bringing the bike with us at this point. Love the BRP and have run it start to finish many times. It’s a great ride. Have you run the Cherohala Parkway? It’s like a ‘mini” BRP. Only 50 miles and runs from Robbinsville NC to Tellico Plains TN. Not too far from your home base. If you haven’t you may want to check it out. It’s also near the Tail of the Dragon, Hwy 129.

About the "little branch" you were backing into ... a long time ago in a company Setra ( charter bus ) I pulled through a hotel and the gardeners messed up and left a "narrow part of a baseball bat sized" branch camouflaged by "tiny branches!" It was like a grenade going off as the top $2,000. windshield blew out and rained down glass dust everywhere! Hotel had to pay cause there's laws that public places have to keep trees a certain height. Also, hope you can visit Helen, Dahlonega, Suches and Murrayville ( Lake Lanier ), Georgia soon. Did you ever check out Barkbox for Daisy? They have an affiliate for you too.

FYI : I just told Finding Our Someday that a new RV park is coming to Cartersville, GA . Where I live. It has the welcome center completed along with a kids play ground. Just had asphalt laid around site. Plumbing stubbed in. I see 6 months to complete as slow as they are going. 1 1/2 miles off I -75. Backed up to Etowah River just below Allatoona Dam on Allatoona Lake. 2 miles for the RV park is Coopers Furnace where they smelted down the pig iron to make the famous locomotive THE GENERAL. From the civil war, called The Chase. Where the confederate forces stole the locomotive at Kennesaw GA to take to Chattanooga, Tenn. To tear up the tracks and communication lines. And was chased down by the locomotive the TEXAN. They were caught I think in around Rinngold GA, just short of Tenn. Point being about the story. I just watched a you tube channel about this. One I follow that is the best one I have ever seen. The History Underground. JD is the best. He went to Chattanooga, Tenn. and found the graves of 7 of the raiders from the Great Chase. Believe it or not, I saw the video. It is true. 6 off those raiders were the first men history to ever receive Congressional Metal of Honor from the United States of America. Stated on their head stones. Lot of history around here. Etowah Indian Mounds here also. Come by and see some history shortley.
