Current AI technology is able to create a near perfect deepfake voice synthesis for example, yet creatively the producer decided to go with an impressionist voicing the piece. All in all it was absolutely perfect for it's purpose, it had me staring at the screen seeing a very good visual deepfake with a constant reminder throughout in the voice telling me that it wasn't real. For me, the feeling of conflict over what I was seeing vs what I was hearing heightened the experience of unease.

I think it’s less of the possibility of lending them in trouble and more of making a point. The whole point of the PSA is to warn the public of falling prey to deepfakes and false information (“fake news” as the millennials call it). That’s probably why they just stopped the deepfake and show the real actress and green screen set at the end of the PSA.

Luckily there is software that can easily recognize deepfakes that the human eye can't. Let's hope there will be some sort of regulation to control the spread of "illegal" deepfaking using software to detect it, in the future

This deepfake is very poorly made, probably to introduce it to the general public that still ignores Internet. There are a *lot* better deepfakes out there. They are not yet untraceable by human eye-brain system, but some of them are remarkable pieces of work. This one clearly is not.

But let's say you are a politician who addresses your voters directly into the camera without flinching "I have always been honest with you, and ALWAYS will be. I promise." The opponent does a deep fake - simply, and subtly, making the politician do a "deceit gesture" with his eyes when he says "I promise". Nobody would notice, but that subtle action by the faker would have a massive impact .. maybe even costing our "honest" politician the election.
