I like both movie ideas for different reasons, the idea of a half cartoon and half human man going into the real world to track down and murder his father could be really dark, messed up and disturbing whilst also being hilarious and depressing. But I’d be lying if I didn’t think the idea of cartoon characters wanting to merge their world with ours wasn’t a cool idea and could lead to some great visuals if done right, issue was the Cool World script was a mess, they kept the man fucking a cartoon idea when it really should have been a character trapped by his own creation story similar to Bendy And The Ink Machine, heck they could’ve even draw some parallels between his time in prison and his time with Holli to show that Jack has just swapped one prison out for another but instead we just got “I wanna fuck a cartoon” “I’m Brad Pitt And you cannot fuck a cartoon” “I’ve already done it” “YOU’VE DOOMED US ALL!!!”

Holy hell, I just watched this again after the 'Roger Rabbit' review.. and it's really insane how the techniques from Roger are sooooo much better. Like, when Eddie is holding Roger, it's flawless, and here when Brad Pitt puts his arm around the girlfriend, you can see he's just holding it up in the air... really makes me appreciate Roger even more.

Yeah parently the live-action actors spend at least a month in mime classes and in order to get the perspective right they had a life-size rubber Rodger rabbit also the director was a stickler for eye contact so he would and the actor would actually be looking at each other
@jbwarner8626
@jbwarner8626 Жыл бұрын
It's also worth noting that the cartoon characters in Who Framed Roger Rabbit have actual shadows and highlights applied to them, so they integrate better into the live action setting. The characters in this movie don't have that; they're just slapped onto the live-action footage with no effects animation applied, so they look even less like they're supposed to be there. Once you notice it, it's incredibly distracting.

Considering what they did to his original concept/art and how it was his last "big picture" and probably caused him to completely leave the industry. I would assume after nearly 25 years he would have a very good sense of humor about it at this point. I mean all the actors survived it more or less it's just a shame it caused Ralph to leave studio animation forever. We need more of his kind of stuff in this sanitized sad world we now live in. More insanity is always good in animation. Always.

Good to hear he's still alive (I mean I haven't heard anything recently) I'm sure this was the last straw though and after this shitshow he said fuck it and left Hollywood and "The Business" for good. It would be cool as hell if he could hook up with Netflix or Amazon or somebody and get an original project that would be sweet. I mean there's been enough time I bet he could do his original vision somewhere at this point. I'd hate to think this is the film to be remembered for, but the public is fickle people only remember the most recent thing you did whether it was good or total crap that's what they tend to remember.

That is a bit sad that he might be feeling that way, I always enjoyed his art style in animation as the line work and the color usage had always fascinated me. And as much as I wasn't exactly crazy about the "story" of Wizards... I did like the visuals and the creativity of the characters, especially the more monstrous ones. But if we do get a remake of Cool World to the original concept, then maybe... just maybe we can start getting the rise of the hand drawn animation again, even though this would be a combo of both live action and animation. (I know this is just wishful thinking and idealistic dreaming... but I keep hoping for it to come back one day or another. I do enjoy CGI animation, but it feels like everyone has the same style at this point with the exception of a selected few.)
@Merdragoon
@Merdragoon 7 жыл бұрын
lol it's fair enough that you wouldn't exactly be a huge fantasy fan, and I think Wizards was more of Bakshi's way of smacking the fantasy fans into reality about propaganda and to look into history behind the lore they enjoy so much with his surrealism (And sure, Critic pokes fun of the fact that there's a lot of boobs and scantily clad women in Baskhi's work, but surrealists painters, both male and female did the same exact thing as it was more about talking about subconscious mind in art). And I know a friend who enjoys the Sword of Truth series (haven't read it myself, but that's because I'm working on a much larger series of books that is up to 41 books already and may still be going) and from what she have told me over the years, I can see how Goodkind's writing can be easily handled, and as much as I enjoyed the Hobbit and Tolkien lore.... I can see why it can be painful to read for many others and the fact that you even able to get through it with how you are with fantasy in general is a feat within itself. (this is why if someone asks me if I have any recommendations to start in fantasy, Tolkin is not one of them.) I do agree with the idea that the animation of Bakshi's film for Lord of the Rings is amazing (in both the back that he experimented away from his usual style and the fact he even worked with it) and I think the characterization of the characters isn't his fault, I feel he probably would of played with the darkness of the books a bit more if he did have control over it.

He totally captures the personality and spirit, of one of the best adult animators to ever exist. And this is one of my most favorite Nostalgia Critic episodes.

unfortunately that will never happen cause you know Hollywood has the mentality that they are the true artists, the true visionaries and just the all around voice that says "We know what the people want these guys that give us the ideas are just the errand boys" okay actually to be fair (I guess) one of the staff either the director or producer did say he didn't want to do a horror flick so that was the main reason for the change

That does happen sometimes (it's a contract clause called script approval). It's effectiveness depends on the clout of the writer vs. how much the studio wants to make the movie and how much the writer wants to make the movie. Sometimes, if no agreement can be made, the movie just might not be made. It also depends on how the writer originally managed their movie rights (in the case of turning a book into a movie or such-like.)

Thank God for Netflix not interfering creatively to screen writers. If you want to make a show or a movie, or a cartoon just go to Netflix and pitch your idea. The worst that could happen is you get rejected and you can keep trying if you're passionate enough of your project.

I didn't know that about Netflix. I've got a screenplay called Flowers which is about a lesbian couple. It's got some corny stuff due to the social awkwardness of one of the main characters but hopefully I found the right balance between the corny scenes and the dramatic scenes. I've been trying to use InkTip to get this idea produced and someone actually has asked for it. However, they haven't contacted me back for a couple of weeks so I don't know if they're willing to go beyond just reading it. If they're going to reject me, I'd prefer that they tell me instead of making me live with false hope.

Disturbingly common, poor Quest for Camelot immediately springs to mind. Originally conceived as a serious, pg-13 adaption of The King's Damosel, with no songs or anything like that. but since Warner brothers just wanted a Disney ripoff (literally, the animators where told to make it look as much as Disney as possible) that's what it became.

The teacher didn't get fired. He wasn't the brightest teacher either. He thought movies were good education. He also thought that Forest Gump was a true story. While my classmates didn't want me to mess with the teacher since his class was easy. He was going to flunk me for not watching movies and skipping his classes, but I told him "You got to pass me since I am the only student in class that can tell you who betsy ross is, That washington crossed the Delaware river On christmas to surprise the british army, Hell I can even take you to places where he is rumored to have planned the attack!" Did I mention it was a history teacher? He was a good teacher for me, since His lack of skills made me want to learn history so I could prove him wrong.

Wow, that's the craziest thing I ever heard, and I heard a lot of whoppers in my time. I'm sorry, but anyone with common sense will tell you that most historical and biographical films in general are not always going to be a 100 percent accurate because Hollywood does make shit up, or they exaggerate certain events, for dramatic effect; hence why you should never use movies as a learning tool to learn about history. The fact that your teacher wanted to use movies like "Forest gump" and others to teach you all history is insane. Hell, I'm considered a fucking idiot by most people, even though I'm usually right about everything (not trying to sound conceited, but it's true), and even I know that's dumb.

Until it actually happens, I will forever be an advocate of this film getting the remake/reboot that I personally feel it deserves! There's genuine good material in the original to work with. And let's not forget that Ralph's unused concept definitely has potential. So who here would like to see "Cool World" get a second chance?

Maybe Ralph Batshi could reedit this movie with new scenes based on his original idea. Like keep most of the cool world stuff, and maybe the scene of holly and Jack doing it but make that the first scene. Then cut to like twenty years later and a detective in the real world is investigating a series of serial killings that are connected to the famous cartoonist Jack. Jack would be the number one suspect until it's revealed to be his noid/toon hybrid son who is killing people in the real world since you cant kill a toon in cool world.

If you look at what George Lucas did with the Star Wars prequels when he was unbound, it seems that a little artistic restraint might sometimes be not so bad. But completely rewriting a script without the visionary's consent is a really dick move.

Dude, that's a little TOO harsh. And let's be realistic here; this film was made whether you like it or not. It was made, and it exists. Since YOU hate it, here's my advice to you: DON'T WATCH IT. Simple as that, don't watch it if you hate it. And I'll have you know that I'm one of the group of people out there who actually happens to LIKE the original "Cool World" here, truly. Is it 100% perfect, great, and spectacular? NO. But are there elements to it that are actually pulled off well? YES. The script/story is disjointed, there's no very deep character development, there's a huge lack of explanation for everything that's going on, and the acting is C- grade at best. But the animation for the most part I feel is pulled off well (so are the backgrounds & set designs), there's good voice-acting here (even from Kim Basinger as Doodle Holli), and the music is pretty awesome. Bottom line, whether you like it or not (which I know you don't like it), this film was made and it always will exist. The people who do happen to love it will ensure that it won't be forgotten. And that I feel is, no offense, a pretty STUPID and RIDICULOUS thing to say. Because of the fact that films (whether they be good or bad) are made and exist, they can NEVER be truly, realistically forgotten. Would this film have turned out better if it was Ralph Bakshi's unused concept? Yes, most likely. I find that whole concept intriguing, and I for one truly wouldn't mind if that becomes the story of a "Cool World" remake or reboot. But because I'm one of the people who sees genuine untapped potential in the original, I would personally be open to a reimagining of it that fixes the mistakes of its predecessor.

velociraptor4you first I did not say it was 100% shit I mean I rather see a man's passion a man's dream that was runed though the mud by Holly wood so it might make more money I don't care if you like it or hate it I am not forcing you to hate it but I rather see the original be made then just a reboot the ideas there even by the art Style you can tell this was meant to be a darker film but hey that my dumb idea believe what ever you want to believe I am not forcing you to look at it same way has I do
@velociraptor4you3291

OK, I'm sorry if I misunderstood you. I understand now that what you would prefer to see is Ralph's original vision. And like I said, I DO like his concept of a live-action/animated horror film involving a hybrid child of cartoon and human. I don't want you to misunderstand me on that. I was just saying that if "Cool World" does get remade, it COULD go either way. I'm just presenting another possible direction it could go in.

I'm convinced Ralph Bakshi could have only succeeded in the late 1960s - 1980s because the mouse was laid low and so there were opportunities for new animation legends to fill the void....plus everyone being on all the drugs until we all sobered up in the 1990s.
