Arguably Disney's most popular film in years! But does it have the magic so many audiences said it did, or does it run cold after awhile? Nostalgia Critic takes a look at Frozen.
Support this week's charity - www.gobeyondhunger.org/
Frozen is a 2013 American 3D computer-animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The 53rd Disney animated feature film, it is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Snow Queen". It tells the story of a fearless princess who sets off on a journey alongside a rugged iceman, his loyal reindeer, and a naive snowman to find her estranged sister, whose icy powers have inadvertently trapped their kingdom in eternal winter. The film features the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad, and Santino Fontana. Christophe Beck was hired to compose the film's orchestral score, while Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez wrote the songs.

Well, how does the saying go in situations like this? "This is a movie about a woman with magic ice powers who can use her hands to bring eternal winter, turn people into ice, and create life, and we're talking about how the reindeer should have been dead by the time Kristoff was an adult."
@Eidolon1andOnly

The *AVERAGE* lifespan of a reindeer *in the wild* is 10 years, that doesn't mean reindeers can't live longer. The *average* lifespan of humans ranges from 75-85 years depending on certain factors, yet there are still people who live into their 90s or even over 100. When Sven is first introduced, just by his size and weight he was only a few months old, based of the age of the girls and Kristoff they seem like they're 6-10 years old with Elsa being the oldest. That means by the time Elsa turned 21, only twelve years give or take a year or two have passed. Just to show how lazy and selective Nostalgia Critic was in his research for creating that joke, just from a simple Google search I found that reindeers typically live about 15 years in the wild, and about 20 years in captivity, and with Sven being a captive reindeer, we can assume he would easily still be alive by the time Elsa turned 21. Young Elsa at the beginning could have been as young as 6 years old and 15 years later Sven would still have a possible 5 more years of life left in him. Source: www.britannica.com/animal/reindeer

I can't believe Nostalgia Critic didn't mention how Han's betrayal doesn't' make sense because if he saved Anna and married her, he would be the King.Whereas if he kills her, the kingdom would go to some other family memeber, like a distant cousin, uncle, aunt, or something like that. Not some random prince who almost married the princess.

With the whole "you can't marry a guy you just met", that's literally been the case for EVERY Disney film. Think about it, the films either end with them ending up together where they'll dance, ride off together, or get married in a legit time skip. Seriously, not one of the disney princess films ends with them getting married literally the next day.

John Tumahab They HAD different plans for the World. If you look closely you can see the tidbits for what was going to be the plot, from Larxene’s inexplicable ice labyrinth, to Sora and co being blown off the mountain by icy wind (when Larxene couldn’t do that before) and even the Nordic wolf heartless. It looked like it was gonna explore Elsa if she gave in to the darkness and the plot would be trying to pull her out of that terrible place. But nope! Disney forced them to just copy paste the movie. Disney be the Madmen in that regard.

Tarzan wasn't speaking english before he met Jane, he was speaking gorilla, but it was from his perspective. So we hear the gorilla language how Tarzan hears it, which to us would be english, but in actuality he was speaking gorilla. @@Ugly_German_Truths It appears you've never watched a disney movie, or at least one with a talking animal. It's so sad when a person like you, with your so call "mind" can not comprehend language perspective. You see what I am talking about is like in the Pixar movie "Ratatouille". We can hear the rat speak English, but to the human characters he's just a squeaking mouse. The rats are not actually speaking english, we're hearing them from their perspective of how they hear and understand other rats. Also on the simpsons, where Bart is trying to train his dog, we hear Bart speaking english, but to the dog we hear incomprehensible jibberish example: "Blah blah blah".

Enchanted is great, but I've often seen it as a parody of Disney fairy tales, for it mocks many of the tropes. Enchanted would be the 1st Disney movie to point this out, while Frozen would be the 1st Disney fairy tale in its own right to address this. It's like how Flynn Rider in Tangled would be the 1st Disney character to question why everyone is singing, even though Patrick Dempsey in Enchanted did it before he did. The difference that Patrick Dempsey's character is a human in the real world where musical numbers are not commonplace, and Flynn Rider IS a character in the musical world where it is commonplace. Flynn Rider would the bigger novelty because he actually *lives* in that fairy tale world and tropes like that shouldn't be literal or strange to him.

I used to sing the duet between Anna and Hans when the movie first came out, and I would take my little brother to middle school while listening to the album. He began singing this duet with me. Frozen is still a great movie. It's entertaining, visually beautiful, well voice acted, funny, dramatic, relatable, has memorable songs... It's a complete package, in my opinion. And I'll never get tired of Let It Go. It was annoying ONLY when every single person on youtube played it into the ground (not to mention at anime conventions in the karaoke room). The song itself is great and always will be. I remember when I first saw this in the theaters with my fiance. My mouth was slack-jawed and I don't think I blinked once during that song. It blew me away. So, yes, I believe it deserved all the praise it got and continues to get. I had no idea it had gained backlash recently, though. :/

8:23 I never thought that was odd. Her reaction is true to her character. Elsa is an anxious young woman who has shut herself away and has, for all we know, had little to no socialization with anyone since her parents died. She doesn't know how to react to her sister, she's feeling her powers beginning to do things and she responds in a short and harsh way because she's afraid and doesn't know what else to do. That felt natural to me, as someone with severe anxiety, because I've literally done that in situations where I wasn't sure how to react. You lash out at someone else because you're afraid of where the situation is going and your mind is only processing that they are upset and, personally, when another person is overly emotional it can set off my anxiety and a need to get away. So I didn't really think it was out of character or anything for her to snap like that, rude and hurtful, but understandable. I could be reading too much into this
@greatwork25
@greatwork25 4 жыл бұрын
Not to mention she tried to take Anna aside to talk in private but Anna wouldn't let her. For all we know she could have told Anna about what happened when they were kids and the anxiety might been alleviated. But it didn't work and there's no way at all she would publicly tell her sister what happens those years ago.
@amanofnoreputation2164
@amanofnoreputation2164 4 жыл бұрын
Elsa isn't anxious because she shut herself away, or for any such rubbish as whether or not she can be a good queen or avoid being persecuted by the masses. She suppressed her emotions and capabilities specifically to protect Anna from herself. But other than that, it's spot on. She ironically lashes out at the very person she's trying to protect because she knows Anna's love is so unconditional, taken so far for granted, and it's so difficult for her to imagine life where it's not the case, and she unconsciously abuses her knowing that she won't actually leave her. The paradox of Elsa leaving the kingdom was that she actually wanted Anna to come after her. If this all seems completely irrational, it is. Because Elsa didn't have control over her emotions anymore than she did her power. And the reason for that is she chose to hide from them. Her parents telling her to lock the power away wasn't so much advice than anyone actually gave her but an externalization of her own parental intuitions; putting her younger sister in the position of a child that she is responsible for. I.E "This power is clearly dangerous, so I have to keep it away from her" -- even though this is the worst possible way she could have dealt with the situation. (Or was it? It's not like the heart grows up over night.) The parents can't really help their children directly with these deeply subjective and personal issues, so for the purposes of the story, they're taken out of the picture fairly quickly. As far as her own pychic development is concerned, Elsa might as well be an orphan.

@swanpride
@swanpride 4 жыл бұрын
It's not about foreshadowing. It's about the question if Hans actions make sense if he is the villain. Also, Love is an Open Door plays pretty much like a standard love song. The one they originally wrote, "You are you" would have worked way better if they had intended to foreshadow. But at one point they apparently decided that the reveal should be more of a "surprise"....though in this case, hey should have skipped the "you want to marry someone you just meet" part. I just knew. Not because the text was moving in the direction, but because I feared that this would be the main meta-text of the story, and they wouldn't be smart enough to make the point in a more settled manner. I HATE it when Disney panders to their most vocal critics.

I actually like your idea of the movie about "everyone over corrects their 'problems'." I've been part of many online discussions about how the King and Queen only compound Elsa's anxieties and complexes. And its interesting to see you regarding it as part of a larger pattern within the movie. Like, I've always discussed Elsa's social anxieties (cause I have them too) and Anna's social longing, but they've all been as separate entities in a way. Its funny how its only took me six years to see the whole family's problem solving methods are actually the same. But a blanket solution for wholly unique problems sure creates some crazy scenarios.

I worked at Target during the holiday season the year Frozen came out. I heard "Let It Go" in full, every single shift, at least.... 15-20 times per shift, as they played it on the display TVs. It is a great song. I won't deny upon first hearing it, I was impressed. But after hearing it hundreds of times over three months or so, it really sets something off in my brain that both makes me nostalgic for that time in my life, but also drives me slightly crazy. I don't *need* to ever hear it again and my life would be just fine.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t start liking Frozen until I was older. Let me explain why. If you watch the scene where Anna “confronts” Elsa in her ice castle, the body language and the way the voices melt together (where Elsa’s is the stronger of the two and is a bit hurried and worried and Anna’s is more comforting and trying to calm her down) it looks like when I have a panic attack and a family member is trying to calm me down. Elsa is panicking and Anna’s trying to soothe her and convince her that they can bring back summer together but Elsa is too wrapped up in the panic to hear her. And then she explodes and lashes out. It looked almost action for action like an anxiety attack. Elsa’s character is like a superpowered, personified version of an anxiety sufferer. And Elsa ran away because she’d spent her whole life choking down the powers, choking back emotion (which makes the magical ourbursts), and the one time she’s pushed over the edge-people call her a monster and reel back from her. She doesn’t want it for her life, so she runs away to get away and not face the fact that people are afraid of what she is. When she’s alone, she feels liberated and forgets her fear-only to be confronted with it again as soon as someone else is around. It’s that cycle of fear over and over again. And, honestly, I liked having a character I could relate to on that odd level, a personal level-not just in apperance like some Disney princesses. Also-I liked the “act of true love” as it wasn’t the typical Disney true love conquers all moment but still not a complete surprise. It was just different enough to not be stale.

@@maxbearington7565 "Objectifiably" doesn't even make sense. To "objectify" means taking something or someone and treat it as an "object" for the sake of analysis or with malicious intent, depending on the circumstances. "Objectifiable" designates something that can be objectified or made objective, again depending on context. "Objectifiably"... I wonder if it even exists. I mean, it does now thanks to this video, but it still has no meaning.
