Күн бұрынRussian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Vietnam on Thursday (Jun 20), his final stop on a two-nation tour of Asia. The Southeast Asian nation will be the third country in the region that he has visited since he was sworn in for a fifth term in May. Dr Carlyle Thayer, emeritus professor of politics at the University of New South Wales in Canberra, shares with CNA’s Asia First the likely message that Putin is sending by visiting Vietnam after North Korea.

@@mrswavee2470 Completely different scenario. Ukraine is not even a real country but a fabrication from soviet era. Secondly, its on the border with Russia. Thirdly, Russia alone single handed entire NATO alliance and left NATO with no military, money and ammo/weapons to give to Ukraine. So, Russia alone beating NATO shows a strong message, especially to the US.

One has always to remember that for the Western (supremacist) powers, all Asian and non-white peoples of the world will always be treated as a lesser breed. Even Russians are looked upon by the Western Powers as second-class whites. The west has lost all credibility in Africa with its ‘do as we say’ attitude with threats of repercussions if an African nation did not support the US in its totally senseless treatment of Russia. Now with the South gaining economic prowess, partly through BRICS, Russia is consolidating itself as a true friend of the South thereby supporting a multipolar world with no one powerful nation that bullies the entire globe.

During the Vietnam war, the collective West isolated Vietnam. Only Russia and India refused the isolation. Today it's a repeat. The collective West is trying to isolate Russia, so Vietnam will ignore it.

Vietnam is fiercely independent and must juggle American, Russian and Chinese interests and also understand Vietnam is basking in its hard won peace. Vietnams main problem is can the Government handle the extraordinary amount of capital that is flowing in to the country. Fascinating to hear Vietnam not spend money on new weapons unlike Aussie. I have to admit that every day of Vladimir Putin is epic, every day has a program and an agenda, whether inside the country or in countries outside of Russia, and this requires a concentration of good thoughts, common sense and mood, and not, as the West says, that Vladimir Putin and Russia are isolated, very funny!!

Russia-Vietnam vs USA-Philippines (military bases). ASEAN has 2 Ukraine - Myanmar, Philippines. Vietnam has enlarged his islands in West Philippines. The Laos-Cambodia-Thai-Msia concentrate make money and ignored those Myanmar civil war, Philippines-USA alliance.

What Putin wants out of Việt Cộng (VC), not Việt nam. There are two existing Viets, Vietcongese (VC) and Vietnamese. Vietcongese greeted Putin, not Vietnamese.
