I started my relationship at 23 and we are 41 now. Sometimes when you know, you know. So I teach my kids about red flags and evaluations of people. I was in a terrible relationship early on, and it was baptism by fire. I learned so much. So maybe that was the different. But I definitely want my kids thinking on it and being rational about love choices. But if they find their true other half young like I did, I want them to be happy.

Story 1: this isn’t bf sickness, to me that is when you get wrapped up in a new love. What I feel this story is, the beginnings of an abusive relationship. It shows the beginning signs of a conman story and possibly DV. Changes in victims behaviour, isolation from friends and family, rushed marriage, no job…. Also it’s like he is looking for a mother replacement. This is like the beginnings of all the stories that start on true crime. I’d recommend getting a psychologist’s opinion on how to handle the situation as confronting the friend could lead to her further isolation herself from her friends and family. Then when it all goes down the loo, and it will, she may stay longer as she feels like she has no one to confide in. It’s a delicate situation and needs to be handled properly. Good luck.

You’re not wrong, but it’s going to be hard for her friends to express concern that will be taken seriously if they continue to get hung up on things like how he wants his steak cooked. That has ZERO to do with the relationship and sounds horribly classist. They need to stick to legitimate concerns.

spreadsheet story: specifically the part about cleaning up after her husband… “mothering” her husband does not help with the sex drive either. men who want wives who will do all of the household chores and also give them sex all the time, aka men who ‘keep score’ like this guy, will never find that because it sounds like they’ve got some Oedipal shit going on. if you have to treat your spouse like a child, all that romance and sex goes out the window. all of this, of course, notwithstanding any prior agreements. the situations i’m describing include a complete lack of communication and mutual respect

As a fellow hairstylist I give that girl full permission to cuss that man out and drag his name. As an apprentice stylist in school you should never expect money from the model and if you get a tip that means you did a good job. If you completely botch someone's shit they deserve a refund from the school and a complementary service with a different student to make a mends with the client. That's basic customer service in the beauty industry.

2nd story, spreadsheet guy: Sex 3 times in 7 weeks isn’t even that bad... that’s about once every other weekend, which is totally understandable for busy couples. But 27 attempts?? That’s so much. Who has the time to have sex 27 times in 7 weeks. That’s like 4 times every single week, which is a LOT for people working over full time hours like the OP was doing, on top of all the housework and taking care of the husband like he’s a baby. That’s just unreasonable and physically impossible unless that man lasts under 5 minutes. Which, given his attitude, it’s likely he doesn’t last long and definitely doesn’t reciprocate for his wife.

Listening to Tinx explain her box theory, I just realized I literally experienced that exact thing. I had a guy friend I met my senior year of high school. I developed a crush on him pretty quick - he was tall, could act (I was a theatre kid lol), and actually genuinely nice to me, which was a rarity in high school - but he had a girlfriend and nothing ever came of it. When I started college after a gap year, we reconnected and started hanging out regularly. He became my movie buddy. We watched favorites we both loved, films one of us hadn't seen, and went to the movie theater regularly to check out new films. He introduced me to the Matrix films, which I adore, and the Witcher series. In all honesty, he was my best friend for about two years. We would stay up all night talking about literally anything and there were a couple times I found myself sneaking back into my place at 6am because we'd lost track of time. Over time, my feelings for him just got deeper and eventually expanded beyond romantic (I'm demisexual, for reference. It's on the asexuality spectrum). He was one of the few people I was comfortable and even craved being physically close to. Hugs, cuddling during movies, etc. One night, though, he asked if he could try something and kissed me. We ended up making out but I, a virgin, was 100% NOT ready to go any further than kissing and turned down his attempts at trying for something more before eventually leaving for the night. The next day, I confessed my feelings to him over text but he didn't really respond to that. In fact, he avoided me for a few weeks. When we finally got together again, after I asked him for a ride home from the train station after a class, he told me that he wanted to just be friends. I was disappointed and broken hearted. Tbh, I kind of ghosted him for a while because I was so hurt. Not great, in hindsight, but this was the first time I'd dealt with anything like this and I was only 20 at the time. I'd never felt those feelings that strongly before. When we did talk again, he asked if I liked kissing him and I told him yes, because that was the truth. He said he liked it to and was down to do more of that, just without actually dating. Once again, hi. Virgin (not anymore lol) who just got kissed for the first time and then had their heart broken. I was NOT down for friends with benefits and told him so. All or nothing. Needless to say, our friendship fizzled after that. He made some attempts at reconnecting and I gave him a few chances but things really fell off once I met and eventually started dating my current girlfriend (we'll have out 1.5 yr anniversary in February and legit, it's the easiest relationship I've ever had. We of course have our differences and stuff to work through, but from the start it's just been the easiest relationship I've ever had). Looking back on my time with that guy now, it's VERY clear that all he wanted from the beginning was friends with benefits and nothing more. He never saw me as relationship material, not once. I wish I'd known it then but well. You live and you learn 🤷 I'm very happy now, btw. My girlfriend and I are planning to move in together soon (she's in charge of laundry as long as I do the dishes) and even the boring conversations about stuff like finances have me hyped AF. I think that's a good sign 🥰️

agreed. no guy waits four months to have sex with you just to drop you right after. if that's all they want, and you dont, thell run soon after. thats the whole point of lots of women waiting, me included. if you dont agree to wait, you dont want a relationship and I can't trust you, or at the very least, we dont mesh together.

In relation to the first story - I have been there, almost exactly the same circumstances. My best friend went through the same thing. She met this guy when she was 17. No matter what we told her, it just rolled off her like water off a ducks back. The one thing that stuck, I think, was “if you feel like you have to lie about it, you already know it’s wrong”. It took her 4 years to come to her senses, with a crap tonne of trauma. She’s so lucky she got out when she did.

Thank you for telling me this new term “boyfriend sickness”. My friend was dating this guy for about 2 weeks. This man treated me like absolute trash and she would just laugh it off. She would slowly pull away from me and I noticed it right away. The last straw was when he boyfriend, who again hated me, started knowing things I told her in confidence. I couldn’t handle it anymore so I told her I couldn’t be around her boyfriend. Her response was ending a 6 year relationship over a man she just started dating.

@@karil6461 yeah no, gonna have to disagree. He was charging her to cut it and typically students get hair models for free because it’s a mutual agreement that you’re allowing someone who does not totally know how to cut hair to cut your hair, immediately started cutting it short, which I’m pretty sure day one they’re gonna tell you don’t start at the length they want because you’re still going to need to cut shorter to style and give it dimension/shape etc., she never mentions that he is a student or an apprentice or at all that he doesn’t already know how to cut hair. I stand by my statement that he purposefully sabotaged her hair 🤷🏻‍♀️

I ended a friendship due to boyfriend sickness.Her and this guy started dating. For backstory, me and this guy used to be friends because he was best friends with my parents friends son that lived down the street and so we all got together a lot! I considered these guys brothers. Fast forward, he and my friend start dating and he completely flipped. He was rude to me and would either not acknowledge me or be a straight up asshole. I was dating my boyfriend (now husband) at the time too and we all went to the same youth group together. We would hand out and play dodgeball before service and I noticed my friends boyfriend kept aiming for me. And not just aiming but he would put ALL his force behind the ball when he would throw it. It got to the point that he aimed for my ankle so when I jumped to try and dodge it it hit my ankle so hard it knocked my leg back and it hit the wall behind me. I fell and managed to get off to the side and I was trying not to cry from the pain. Before my boyfriend came to check on me he overhears him tell my friend,”I don’t know why she’s being dramatic it’s dodgeball.” To which my friend replied,”Yeah it’s dodgeball.” My boyfriend was PISSED. He came to check on me and told me we need to leave or else I’m going to punch this guy. I tried having a conversation with my friend about it later that night and all she said was that I was overreacting and it’s not like I broke my ankle. When I would spend the night(which was VERY frequent because we lived around the corner from each other) and if he called her she would tell me,”Shut up here quiet you’re not here.” And she would answer the phone and talk to him for like an hour and I would just be sitting there. And if he knew I was staying over he’d ask why Is she there? Does she always have to be there? She moved to another city 3 hours away for school and she would come visit and not tell me and just visit with him for a couple of days and would call me when she was heading back home already. It got to the point where I had enough and told her she completely changed and she shouldn’t be treating her best friend like shit because of her boyfriend and that she never stood up for me but always defended him. Of course she denied it all and was bitter and that was that. Last I heard she moved back to our town and that got a place together and had a kid together. All the other friends she had too before she moved she cut off for him. Sorry for the long comment but moral of the story, don’t put up with bad friends. You deserve better. Unless they’re in danger then try to help as much as you can!

But he said it ALL the time to the point I stopped speaking a lot & also came to the conclusion that nobody cared about what I had to say. This is real. Is it just me, or did anyone else get the vibe that the little sister was that guys goal the entire time? I mean, who in their right mind thinks after being told it’s not working out that they should try their luck with their ex’s younger sister? It’s honestly very odd that he mentioned his ex being very protective of her sister when it comes to boyfriends. It’s like he knew that his ex wouldn’t approve of him, so he came up with this elaborate scheme to date the older sister to show her what a “great guy” he is (and from the sounds of it sleeping with her would’ve been a bonus). Then, he would make the dates mediocre as possible to have the sister lose interest (but he’ll still act like the great guy he is). And finally, when they break up he’ll ask her if it’s ok if he asks her sister out and of course in his (deranged) fantasy, she’ll say yes and tell him that he’s the best choice for her baby sister.

Loved this episode but just wanted to say one thing on checking phones. That is usually what saves a lot of people from being held hostage by a cheating partner. Cuz that’s what cheating is - a form of holding your partner in a relationship against their will (cuz guarantee that cheating partner is lying and gaslighting to prevent the partner they are cheating on from leaving) in which their consent is being violated. saying ‘just have a mature convo with your partner about your worries’ is incredibly naive. Most cheating partners will not disclose. Even after finding evidence many cheating partners continue to lie. In my opinion, if I have to violate your privacy to prevent my own consent from continuing to be violated that’s fair game. Phones are deeply personal but so are peoples bodies and bodily autonomy. ESP in situations where the couple may be doing sexually risky things because they think they’re in a monogamous relationship only to then have an STD passed to them from someone they were told they could trust.
@briannam916
@briannam916 2 жыл бұрын
I understand where you're coming from, but as the same time I think it's one of those things of if you don't trust them why are you still with them? Yes people have validated cheating by snoping but if your partner isn't cheating than they are going to lose respect for you for snoping. Like with that story if she had actually been cheating and he burst out the closet it'd make for an interesting story or like a tiktok exposed video and people would more likely excuse it because he was right and he caught her. Which is what you're saying in the phone situation, if they're right then it can be excused. But if that person is wrong and they're partner isn't doing anything than it comes off as really controlling and possessive behavior.
@FrauStormm
@FrauStormm 2 жыл бұрын
If someone is cheating and lying to you about it, then they will lie to you about other things in the relationship especially if it’s starting to get toxic. That alone is all the proof you need that they’re being dishonest and aren’t right for you. You don’t need proof of infidelity in order to leave.

For the one who can’t get past the first date hook up, there is something more. I know a girl who gets into bed pretty quick and she thinks that’s the reason guys don’t want her, but she’s also in her 30s, lives with her parents with mountains of debt, and is incredible dramatic. I feel like those other issues are a much bigger concern than a first date hookup could ever be.

Unpopular opinion but I don’t hate ghosting! I feel like no answer is an answer and especially after just a few dates or conversations, I don’t think it’s deep enough that you need to end the situation so formally. If they liked you, they’d keep in contact. Also, I think I’d honestly rather never get a text back than hear someone tell me they don’t feel a connection/don’t like me.
@briannam916
@briannam916 2 жыл бұрын
I think conversations versus dates are completely different. If you've gone on a few dates with someone you can have the courtesy of shooting them a text saying "I don't think we're compatible." It's not like you have to respond more after that. It's just better than them waiting around for days wondering when you're going to respond or if you're okay.

Not through experience, but I've been told that scheduling regular date nights (with intentions to get intimate) works for a lot of people. Scheduled intimacy might sound boring, but if you try to see it as self-/couple-care ....or as sneaking away if you need that thrill.... it seems like a practical and needed step in a relationship. Also, make sure you're both honest, open, and kind to your partner in discussing both partners' needs.

It happened to my best friend but instead it was with his girlfriend. He was so blinded by her, that he isolated himself from friend, family, social life, from me (who he said i was the more important person in his life). And even though ppl would tell him she was toxic, he couldn’t & wouldn’t break up w her. Long story short, he was able to get out of the relationship, though it took him awhile to re-find himself, he’s happier and more confident in what he wants in a relationship now. Hope it doesn’t happen again, it hurt to see him go through that but also hurt me tremendously when he abandoned everyone he cared about.

fun story- my boyfriend now of two years told me he would NEVER be anything more than friends with benefits for months (we never were, but that’s what he wanted) and i responded one day with “ it’s a shame you don’t see how valuable i am” and two days later he asked me on a date. now we have a home and a cat together :)

the haircut story: the boyfriend is wrong just for asking her for money in the first place, let alone after he totally botched it. who charges their girlfriend for a haircut? a haircut that he wanted to give her, and it wasn’t even done in his salon, just at his apartment?? where did he get the nerveeee

This is an old podcast episode but I’m at the part about ghosting, and I just want to add my two cents and share my mom’s experience. Sorry for the long comment. My mom loved dating before she met my dad. She’s a beautiful woman and broke a lot of hearts back in the early 90s, but was always honest and upfront with people if she didn’t see them as more than a fun date every now and then. She went on a few dates with this one dude, who was super nice and funny, but just wasn’t her type romantically. She calls him up one day to tell him that she doesn’t see their relationship ever becoming a romantic one, but hopes they can remain friends. On the phone, he takes it really well, and invites her out for a drink as a friend. My mom agrees, and away they go. When she shows up, dude starts yelling at her in front of the entire bar, saying my mom is a bitch, a slut, a whore, every name in the book. My mom was completely shocked and genuinely thought he was going to hit her or worse, that was how angry he was getting. He was also super tall and muscular, while she was 5’2” and tiny. I don’t exactly remember how the story ends, but after physically trapping her in some corner of the bar with him for a while, swearing her out and getting progressively more livid and threatening, he was either kicked out or she managed to get out of there some other way. From then on, if she ever told a guy she was no longer interested in them, she never, ever went out with them alone, and rarely saw them again. No matter how nice they seemed. Moral of the story: Ghosting is bad, for sure. But some men truly are unpredictable and can completely change once they’ve been rejected, so I understand why some women and femmes may feel like ghosting is the safer route. My message here isn’t that ghosting is the solution, I’m a firm believer that you should absolutely be honest about your intentions when dating and usually being honest as no downsides-but be careful out there. If it’s only been one or two dates and you’ve only seen the side of someone they want you to see, consider only seeing them again if it’s in a group, or in an extremely public setting. Tell people where you’re going and when you expect to be back. Sit at the bar in direct view of the bartender. Don’t depend on them for a ride, have a safe way home that doesn’t involve them. Sorry again for the long comment, just wanted to share what my mom taught me.

The box theory: I met my boyfriend when I was 19 years old and he was 23. Our first date was movies in my dorm room and sex drunk off of wine. We knew the next morning we were going to be a “forever”. He is the best man…so gentle, patient, hard working, and forgiving. I knew I loved him right from the start. And he felt the same for me. Ladies, wait for that man who treats you like the absolute queen you are. I promise it’s out there. And it’s SO worth it. ❤️
