This just proves that every professor isn’t effective with teaching. Thank you for your instruction! Understood every single concept 👏🏾

There was a short period when I was under a lot of stress and could not fall asleep easily.Being afraid of addiction, I did not want to seek medical help. Thanks to my love for Anatomy and Physiology, and even bigger thanks to you uploading these videos, I kept listening to these videos. Not only it was a superb review of what I loved, but it also helped me through my stress period. I used to fall asleep in no time. And before I knew it, the stressor was gone. Your videos prevented all the negative side effects of insomnia and other physiological complications that may have resulted. A "Thank You" cannot fully appreciate your effort, time, and sharing.

Sorry... I know the audio is bad. I also walk about a fair bit, which makes it worse. the lecture capture system doesn't allow for any post processing so it would take oodles of time to fix. Maybe I will make a go of it over this winter break.

+Jeff Keyte No big deal about the audio - if this is the biggest complaint people have, they need a better perspective. People like me who actually NEED these lectures are appreciative of your efforts specially since you are clearly doing this while actually teaching a class. :)

Ginamarie Logrande that's true, it's perfectly fine and clear enough.

After leaving the central nervous system, that is correct. The autonomic nervous system has a preganglionic fiber and a post-ganglionic fiber, with a synapse at the ganglia in between. For the somatic MOTOR system there is a lower motor neuron (cell body in the spinal cord) which sends an axon to the neuromuscular junction of the muscle fiber. Inside the CNS there is an upper motor neuron (cell body in the motor cortex) and a lower motor neuron (cell body in the spinal cord). For the somatic AFFERENT nervous system there is a synapse at the dorsal root ganglia before entering the spinal cord, so technically there are two neurons before the signal reaches the spinal cord. Hope this clarifies.

Thank you for your video! i have a question however.based on the subdivision of pns into somatic nervous system and ANS it seems to me as if the visceral sensory component is ignored. After all, the ANS is the visceral motor component.could you please clarify this for me? Thanks in advance

Jeff thank you for everything you do. I have a request. Is there a way you can post these power point presentations for the students. I would love to have these power point presentation to go over after watching your video lecture.

I would really love to, but I'm concerned about publisher copyright violation. The pictures in my slides are out of a textbook, and posting them on the internet would probably be illegal (even in a powerpoint of my own making). Sorry!

I am so lost when it reaches the 30 min mark. I don't see what's being pointed at. I think the issue is I am not in your class. It leaves out a lot when I don't see that. I do appreciate what I can see though.

How do the neurotransmitters know which receptor to bind to? And the nicotinic receptor is stimulatory...is this why smoking makes people thinner? Because it speeds up metabolism? Thank you!
@JeffKeyte8 жыл бұрын
+Joie H The neurotransmitters can't tell the difference. If they "fit" into the receptor they will activate it. So ACh will activate ANY ACh receptor. Because receptors are different, the same neurotransmitter can accomplish different things in the body (because the receptor creates a different response). This is common in the body - one molecule (like a transmitter) accomplishing different things for different cells/tissues because of receptor differences. Nicotine does activate the autonomic nervous system, essentially setting up a "fight or flight" state. This does elevate metabolism (blood pressure, heart rate, alertness, etc.) and would increase calories burned.

a piece of advise. dont clear your throat evry two seconds on the mike. try to take off the mike while clearing the throat...otherwise superb lecture
@JeffKeyte8 жыл бұрын
+Jeevan Mathai Thanks for the tip. The mike is an omnidirectional one which is tied to the classroom's capture system, so I don't have many options for muting it. Sorry.
