Today I’m reading Chapter 6 from the first book in the series, The Numbers: Get in Order! Originally, each chapter within the book was intended to be a book by itself, aimed at younger children, until I decided to expand and upscale each story before putting them together (in order, of course) and creating The Numbers: Get in Order!
I’m sorry to say it again, but after designing 6, I noticed she also had a round bottom! The idea of 6’s story began with the way she looked. It seemed natural to me that she would tend to fall onto her back as she looked a little unstable. So, this is what happened every time she tried to get a job and failed-she would roll onto her back. However, 6 would also ‘get back up on her feet’ which is a metaphor for ‘perseverance’. She never gave up trying, and she always worked hard to get a job. Being an example of a hard worker is what the other numbers needed to follow, and that’s why she had the job of being the next number to count on!
