Some ideas for rankings: -all the books from one specific author -all the books you‘ve got from subscribers -all the characters with a specific characteristic (all characters who have the same name/all the villans/etc.) -how well is a trope done in a specific book (f.e. the chosen one - what book does it well, what doesn‘t) Hope there‘s something for you in it ;) Thanks for you great content! PS: I‘ve just posted more ideas in my own comments

@@Cypress1600 Voldemort with a book about himself and his rise would be interesting. He would be interesting as a character if he wasn't in a kids / YA book, due to Harry's Plot armour.

Honestly, Tom riddle was a scary character. He accomplished a lot when he was younger. It's only when hes older that he gets dumb. I put Voldemort and Tom riddle in 2 separate categories because to me they are really not the same character (I do blame 7 horcruxes). I think Tom riddle is quite terrifying and would put him in at least a great tear. Voldemort… as his later self is pretty worthless.
@sarasamaletdin45744 жыл бұрын
He is my favorite character in the series, I know I am in the minority or even liking him. So I am not going there justify it beyond saying that I think he is very entertaining and fascinating and unique with character agency. And I like characters who have potential in what if scenarios. He also suffered from bad luck and Dumbledore and Harry has good luck, so while he made mistakes it’s frustrating for me he is judged for his mistakes while others aren’t when they didn’t suffer consequences of mistakes (like Dumbledore not stopping Draco could have led to Ron dying and him not telling if Elder Wand to anyone might have let to Voldemort becoming the master but it was Harry by pure luck of disarming Draco). He is a bit of a underdog in the narrative in that way which makes me sympathetic in some level lol.

Hi, I recently subscribed to your youtube channel, and I have to say, I'm a huge fan. I was recently bingewatching your H/P playlist and came across your "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Doesn't Make Sense?" video. I just wanted to say that nobody ever points out that, once Harry and Ron confirm that the entrance is in the bathroom, and that Lockhart is no help, why didn't they just go to Dumbledore or any other professor? why did they decide to take lockhart down into the chamber themselves ? I realize you"ll probably never read this, but I just wanted to vent.

Hey nice video! I personally LOVE those characters who are just BASTARDS, literally. Locke, Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot,Dupin,Katniss etc. Locke is such a mad man,I love it. Holmes and Poirot are detestable creeps full of arrogance and over confidence. Katniss, entrapped in horrible love triangle (but still....I live her) and many more examples of characters who are witty, intelligent yet so messed up. Characters striking perfect balance between genius and stupid are the best, intelligent characters are best to read when they are flawed.

@janeb34834 жыл бұрын
Merphy, I love your videos so much, you always inspire me to read and help me reconnect with my love of reading (that I lost a little in the past years). But I just have to comment on one thing about Austen (even probably noone will read this) - because it bugged me in your last video as well. I agree with what you say about Fanny, but... no, not most Austen heroines are fierce. I'm not just saying that "they are all unique and different" (although they are), but if I had to put the six main protagonist of her six novels in one of the shy or fierce boxes... I would probably put more in the shy one. Yes, it would be an oversimplification, but I feel like because Elizabeth Bennet and Emma are the most well known (and the adaptations tend to make their sassy nature more provoking than it is in the books - which is not a bad choice for that medium, I'm just saying they can be more subtle in the novels), people can think all of her heroines are loud rebels - which they are not. On that note I would recommend Emma to you very much, based on what I know about you, I think you would really love it!

I honestly disagree a bit about Voldemort being a idiotic character. He was obsessed with power and achieved great things in his younger days, including being the first wizard to have not one, but seven horcruxes (it’s awful, but still a achievement). Being the Dark Lord made a lot of stuff seems even more important to him, and losing his powers when attacking a defenseless child made him even more insane than ever. He choose his main goal to prove that Harry wasn’t invincible and that he wouldn’t defeat the Dark Lord twice. It’s pretty clear when he guaranteed that Harry’s blood would turn him back so he could touch Harry, and when the Boy-who-lived escaped him once more, this time in front of almost every Death Eater, it became the most important thing to him to make it clear that he was worthy following. That main decision was the responsible for his fall, together with his idea of being indestructible. In the Hogwarts Battle we can see this. In other times he would never consider letting so many opposers live another day just for the life of one 17 years-old boy, but he was disposed to make that deal so he could prove being stronger than the boy who defeated him Tom Riddle’s proud took him down
