I find it totally fascinating that He was so stubborn he essentially forced his subjects to execute him

This is an......interesting take on historic events. It's written like a soap opera.

The place where the trail took place was too small, the real trail was held in the big Westminster Hall as many Britons like me know well enough. The real Cromwell did not do his speech after the execution. He was not there at the time of the execution according to history books. Just film stuff.

I'm sympathetic to Charles purely becuse he knows no better, but ultimately, the Revolution is inevitable. Reform or perish.

Freemasonry and Englightenment Ideals are not inevitable. Several societies and monarchies have resisted such tendencies. The whole of Europe was not so lucky.

@@nobey1kanobey Freemasons pushing democracy, evil bastards knew exactly what they were doing, though not saying a crown or royal family is a better alternative. So far a constitutional republic seems the way to go, but once again cringe ole democracy coming to ruin it all again (look what happened to Rome)

Obviously, 'divine right' was ultimately a lie employed by narcissistic megalomaniacs to faux justify themselves, whether or not their governing was competent and/or abusive. That an inbred fool like Charles I may have genuinely believed the lie is tragic. But the ability of a human to be rational is essentially the one trait which permits our species to dominate the others. So, a human ruler who cannot be rational is worse than useless.

Charles deserved what he got in this case. He broke his coronation oath and there was very much precedent for a king being dealt with fatally for doing that. Edward II. Richard II. Not entirely the same as with Charles but precedential in any case. James II also got handled roughly for breaking his coronation oath as well. The coronation oath was and is an extremely serious thing. Hence the unpleasant consequences for kings violating it. The one exception to this was Henry VIII but he was a canny-enough operator to bring Commons, Lords (at least Lords Temporal) and people with him when he broke with Rome and violated his coronation oath. Thus he survived the experience. James II ran away fast enough to survive the experience as well.

@@nobey1kanobey England and the rest of the Anglo world... rejected the Enlightenment until the late 19th early 20th century... and its been down hill ever since. Absolutist Ideals are nether inevitable ether nor the alternative... England was the only major power to properly resisted such tendencies... the rest of Europe was not so lucky. England successfully put down the United Irishmen and their co-conspirators in England & Scotland, the United Englishmen and the United Scotsmen, the rest of Europe just doubled down on Absolutist tendencies. Why do you think France ended up way it she did, yet England was defeated in the American revolutionary war... and France, the major victor in that war,... devolved in to bloody revolution, civil war and military despotism?

This is so full of shit. It hurts. Hate movies that make up BS. This is so not how it went down at all. In fact, Cromwell and many others were really hoping the King would just say sorry and they would give him a "slap" on the wrist for the most part. But the king never acknowledged their "power" to be judged and never gave any plea. And there was no debate between the king with the judges at his trial on the authority. The judges just came back demanding a plea. The king never gave it. Therefore they went on with their verdict at other arraignments.

Not correct. A mediaeval monarch wasn't a c.e.o of a country, it and its people were his property. Yo are retrofitting modern ides onto a medieval time. England was a tudor King's property, the tudor King's were welsh. England was a Welsh man's property.

Yep and some of what happening in the film was not true. Cromwell never had speech after the execution because he was not there at the time according to history books. Also the place where the trail took place was too small because we Britons like me knew where the real trail took place. it was held in the great Westminster hall next to current house of Parliament and it was big unlike in the film.
