Hey Charles. I want to thank you for your intro tutorials on Logic Pro X. Have been a composer/songwriter all my life. I am just venturing into recording my work after recently retiring as a physician. You are an excellent teacher, clear, concise and easy to follow. I ordered my MacBook Pro which will arrive in two days loaded with Logic Pro X. I feel more confident opening it up and finding my way around thanks to you. Will continue to watch your videos.

Thank you, Charles. Easily the best tutorials on the subject on KZfaq. Your English is very nice and understandable for not-native English speakers. I also like the way you're not trying to seduce the audience (your students) in tutorials. Are you and your wife still in Berlin? Your teaching skills are great. You're the most structured and well organized. I got a lot of relevant vocabulary from you.

I have been working with Garage band up until now until I met up with an old musician/producer friend who told me my music mixes were not up to the same standards of the videos I put out on KZfaq and persuaded me to move up to Logic Pro. I have now watched you Part 1 & 2 videos and find them really cool and pleasant to follow. They're a great help in my transition. You come across very well and I'll be watching all the others in the next few days before remixing the last track I'm about to put out. A massive thanks!

I am 1 month new into making music. I have watched a lot of videos, learned a lot but this video was my magic light bulb moment. This was fantastic for me. I use Maschine mk3, Komplete S49 keyboard, AKAI FORCE, Logic Pro, Fl Studio and want to learn the best features of each. I am having a blast at 65 years old. For Logic this was just great. Thanks for the time you spent on this. SUB and BELL from me.

Can you please share what were the main reason’s you shifted ? Are you still using Logic Pro?
@manualofalternativemusic
@manualofalternativemusic 3 жыл бұрын
Sure bro, actually right now I’m using both again. I’ve sold my old windows laptop because it was quite heavy - I needed a lighter notebook because I’m constantly moving between my home studio and my regular studio, and macs are definitely lighter (I bought an 8g 512ssd m1 Mac Pro). Also I’m finding logic’s interface way cleaner and more intuitive than Cubase, and this made my workflow a lot faster. Some days ago, my friend, the other guy who shares the studio with me bought a stationary pc for the studio 😅 and Cubase has got into my life again.

I still use logic for my own home production, and Sometimes at the studio, but I mostly use Cubase there now. I find both are great DAWs, you can’t go wrong with either, but the native plugins on logic are great and it’s waaaay cheaper than Cubase. I’ve bought Cubase 10.5 when it came out, and the only plugins I find better than logic are the amp sims - which I’m not using most of the time, because we generally mic stuff up at the studio, so it’s not a deal breaker for me. Other than that, to be completely honest, I’ve enjoyed Logic’s compressors, equalizers more than Cubase’s plugins 😂. Overall, I’d recommend Cubase if you’re recording a lot of stuff direct in, and Logic if you’re recording and micing amps, cabs, drums, etc - but they’re both great, and both will work really smoothly for all applications.

@@manualofalternativemusic Thank you so much brother. I appreciate that you took time out of you to write these all. I have been a cubase user for around 1 and half year now and I am possibly considering a shift lately. This provided me quiet a perspective. Thank you so much again. Stay safe!

I'm from China, and I don''t know if you are interested in joining in another UGC video platform in China called "bilibili" like many other KZfaqrs did~I realized that there are little logic pro x tutorials on that website, and sadly most of them are really bad made ones🥲....but as the language used on that website is mainly Chinese, you may need a translator 🤣
@CharlesCleyn
@CharlesCleyn 3 жыл бұрын
thanks for this suggestion Xikong :) I have a question for you, if I make a video on bilibili, can I make it in english with native subtitles? Or do I have to speak the native language?
@mati-shirley9570
@mati-shirley9570 3 жыл бұрын
@@CharlesCleyn (probably this would be a long------- reply hahahaha) I think native subtitles are enough, and it would be better if there are some simple Chinese words like "hello" & "goodbye" (to attract the audience hahaha) but....I don't know if it fits for the tutorial of logic pro x, because though most of the professional musicians are using the English version in China, some Chinese amateurs are making their start with the Chinese version, so language might still be a problem for professional communication🥲 But I still recommend you to have a try!!! Because the website is really popular among Chinese young people and is developing rapidly these years. (Besides...as you know...it's difficult for most of the Chinese to get over the wall (I'm using a vpn myself...😶), there's little chance for us to see the videos on KZfaq; and because of the problem of language, some KZfaqrs will never know that some of their videos have been copied to this website by some bad guys to make profits without getting the permission....that makes me feel really bad😒😒😒 ohhhh it is really a loooooong reply. here are some links of KZfaqrs (I guess? don't know if you can open them hahaha)

wow I enjoy your videos sooo much and I have learned so much! thank you very much!! the one main question I have is when to use a volume automation vs. a gain automation ? I took your mixing class and you used the gain automation to increase the volume of a specific area of the region and here you use the volume automation. can you clear up when it's best to use each one of them or point me to a video that explains this in more detail!! thank you again so much....look forward to learning more with your other videos!

For anyone wondering during the Step Sequencer section when he doesn't explain the tie function all that does is tie two of the notes or "pads" together. So if you tie two notes you will get a fat double note and that function pairs well with the note repeat for a slower triplet feel between two notes or beats. Or if you want to get that 1/8 note hi-hat feel but don't want to slow down your sequencer, you could tie every other note together so the sequencer is moving at 1/16 notes but you are triggering every 1/8 note. It's a good way to keep your sequencer looking at little cleaner so you don't have a bunch of different times in one sequence.
