Love this video. I returned to the City in 1978 and would take my son to the curve at the end of the yard at about 8th. Street where the commuter trains turned left (South) towards San Jose. We watched many Caltrain and SP switching jobs from there and I guess I felt like I was his age again. The SP was gone before I realized it but I model the SP in HO gauge and will always have those father and son memories of our local railroad, the Southern Pacific.

By the 1960s the Sac Daylight operated separately from the SJ Daylight--there was no transfer of cars at Lathrop--nor was there any checked baggage allowed in the transfer.

They have bay windows on the side.

Like he said, Espee had mostly Bay windows to see to the sides of the trains because of the taller and taller cars and lumber cars

Such a glamorous time with the fairies & the Daylight. San Francisco really blew it when they built the bridge. So many jobs lost. For the almighty buck. Typically human.😢
