As midlife women, we are, in general, chronic overpackers. (I once had to sit on my friend’s luggage while we drove around Scotland because they packed SEVEN suitcases between the two of them. Seriously.) But travel capsule wardrobes are the solution to overpacking - and needless airline baggage fees. But utilizing a travel capsule wardrobe can minimize what you have to pack while maximizing the outfits you can create. Today I am going to show you what to pack for a weekend getaway to Charleston, South Carolina…using only a carry-on suitcase.

Black jersey dresses are the best for travel and paired with beige is one of my favourite combinations at the moment. I’m from New Zealand but have spent a couple of weeks in Tokyo and enjoyed having a limited colour palette as it fitted in well with the culture there. The dress was also perfect for the variable Spring weather too. Enjoy your trip to Charleston, one place I would love to visit.

Greetings from Sunny San Diego! I am headed to Charleston mid-May so this video is very timely. My travel capsule is predominantly Navy and Ivory. I LIVE in denim but not bringing blue jeans, albeit an ivory denim straight leg may make its way into my luggage. I realize Charleston is not as casual as San Diego so trying to step up my game. Ha! It will be hot, but I freeze indoors so bringing an ivory cardi and a Ralph Lauren linen bomber jacket (a recent splurge) to keep me from shivering.

I’m on holiday in a very hot Lanzarote. (29 degrees centigrade) I took linen dresses and separates, the dresses are the most comfy, and I haven’t used my layers. We spend all day and evening outside. I agree with you about shorts! Coastal colour palette.

Wow, small world. Your style is very much like mine. Very clean, crisp and professional, even when wearing business casual. I love all of these combinations. You have really introduced me to the black & tan outfits combination and I'm loving the classic look. You look stunning in the pants suit. It is so flattering even without the blazer. Do you find you have to get items altered much? I had to get 3 blazers you suggested altered to shorten the sleeves. Also, I try to avoid black in hot/humid climates because it absorbs heat. Does it not bother you too much? I'll try again!

Hi there! I shortened the pants just about a half an inch in this video. Generally, the item must fit as is or I don’t show it. Black is a double-edged sword: almost all wrinkle-free travel clothing lines are black and black conceals stains and dirt while traveling…but it can get crazy hot. It was over 90F yesterday in Charleston and I wore the black travel dress. It ended up being a good idea, despite the black color, because the loose-fitting dress allowed air to move around my skin. Does this make sense?

I have not checked a bag since 2018 when the airline lost my bags and I spent 3 days In Edinburgh with nothing. And don’t we have THE BEST airport in Grand Rapids?! We were there last night flying home from Charleston.

I am in Nice, France. Skinny jeans are still the main thing I see here, a very few wide leg pants also, but no palazzos. Most of the wide legs look too long, almost brushing the ground, which appears sloppy to me! The length you wear looks good to me, and since I am also 5'1", I will look for regular-length crop pants when I am ready to give up my skinny jeans! I am going on a cruise next month and am planning my wardrobe around your blue/beige/white theme. THANK YOU!
