The fact that someone would find it strange that black people reside in Spanish speaking nations but dont find it strange black people reside in English speaking nations speaks volumes about our media and education system. The media really has people believing black people only live in America or Africa and we all look one way.

This is something very simple the Afro-Latino is some one who is black or of African descent that comes from a Latin country that's it! All this making up other identities or hiding behind other titles to get out of it makes no sense. Another thing when you talk about African-Americans this title is not limited to the U.S. blacks. Anyone of African descent born in the Western Hemisphere is a African American the Americas! Now let's see who's uneducated then.

I DO agree that this was not a great representation. Afro Latinos are not always a light skin mix. Where is you are light skin, you may pass for being mixed. A lot of us are very dark skin, and we pass for black only. (Which is beautiful) Many people on this Afro Latino wave are coming out more lighter and lighter these days. JLo and Evelyn Lozada are trying to rep. And honeslty, its not a fad. So these documetaries respresentation is EXTREMELY important to see that Afro Latinos represent looking light skin black AND Darkskin black. In these New "Afro Latino" documentaries we see a lot less of original Aunt Viv from Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and more of replacment Aunt Viv. Why can't we have both ranges. We don't need vague representatives. (Not that there were vague reps in this video- I am speaking in general)Having the right representation, means the JLO's and Evelyn Lozado's won't feel it would be easy to encroach on our movement.

EXACTLY I’m African-American/Dominican and I’m dark skinned and black so people who are my skin color in the Latino community get an even worse end of the stick when it comes to this. Afro Latinos owe their allegiance to Afro Americans vice versa. Both of us start with the slave trade. But Afro Americans distinguish themselves from the oppressor class... Where as Afro Latino include their oppressive class in their identity as a whole..They will align with other none African people based on language alone... Afro Latino and Afro Americans are FBA.... We are the same people we just speak differently and ruled by different European nations

That's what you want to tell yourselves to separate yourselves from African-Americans, but there is no difference. Are you trying to say that a negative way because I have grown up around Dominicans and Puerto Ricans there is no difference at all!!! The only ones who were different were Cubans because they co-existed with Caucasians. All of the negative stereotypes thrown at African-Americans can also be applied to you Latinos, especially when it comes to loudness and being ratchet!!! @A rose is a rose Representation is key. Just saying that this platform is now being looked at and noticed.People are being education about Afro-Latinos with knowledge they never had because of ignorance. All they are learning that what Afro Latinos look like is lightskinned. But we represent soooo many colors from light to dark. Wouldn't you want the ignorant to educatued by true representation. What's wrong with including some of all the shade spectrum from butter peacan to dark chocolate. That way, in the future, a very dark skinned Latina won't hear " Oh you Puerto Rican?.... You don't look it." The more of a variety that is exposed the less questioning the validiity. Because by then Afro Latinos from all shades will be the norm.

Nothing wrong with being proud of something, but sometimes culture has its flaws, meaning a lack of inclusion for some and self worth that is created by ignorance and low self-esteem. We the African Americans are also a mixed people, but just less mixed. Our family dynamics are the same with varying ranges of colors and textures, but we are sometimes mixed with more than 3 groups, but with the addition of some of the Asians, we on the other hand take pride in our Africans roots as much or more than the black hispanic, but you guys kept more of the traditions and culture. we don't need lither skin or good hair to determine self worth, we fought the good fight for all and put ours in the white house.wake up people.

@@terrencetaylor8196 It's not my reasoning its fact. Latins mixed along time ago they happened to mix with so called black people that's were the name latinos comes from. So there is no such thing as afro latino it's a trick that stops people from researching and learning the true history of the word.theres more to it than that but this is the basis of why theres no such thing as afro latino. You can't be latino unless there is some black in you. Hint in history every time a people mix there is an "s" or an "ish " added to the end of there names. Jew mix jewish , latin mix Latinos, . The show black mix blackish. Britt mix British. Indian mix Indians. This is a great research rule to check when looking at historic events and nations. Puerto rican isnt a race, its a nationality which means if you weren't born there you aren't Puerto Rican. Puerto Rican races consist of Taino, which were the indigenous people of pr, African, and European (the colonizers)
