Awesome! Thank you for sharing this. I just learned for the first time that Charlize was South African -- her American accent is so flawless I never realized. I then of course wanted to hear her speaking English with an Afrikaner accent, but all I could find was videos of her speaking Afrikaans, until this one. I like her original accent a lot better than her adopted American one -- very cute.

@Sal m I know several people from South Africa, and this is exactly that accent. I would say, it is typical for native English speaker from South Africa (although she is bilingual native speaker of Afrikaans as well).

@Sal m Yes, it is a bit like British, or Australian, but still quite distinct and uniquely (and recognisably) South African accent.

@@AlStone2 that is what she did. She learned the english language and became more fluent and learned to pronounce English words correctly. That is "improving her accent" was she supposed to learn a new language and intentionally mispronounce just so she can have a heavy accent?

@@cwhite1662 she learned a new language and perfected the language. Was she supposed to intentionally mispronounce the English words as she learned them and intentionally not sound fluent? When you learn a new language, over time you will lose your accent in that language, it's improving your accent in that language which just means you learn more about it and how to pronounce each word like a native, which is what everyone tried to do when learning a new language - to speak it like a native.
