Not many "DJs" nowadays genuinely care about mixing and DJing. Most of "DJs" nowadays are producers who chose to be DJs out of pure necessity to promote their own newest music. At some point, actual DJs were pushed out of the mainstream festivals and sets got a whole lot more generic. Take Robin Schulz for example. I love his music, even though it is radio friendly, but that man, despite his experience, simply cannot deliver a decent DJ set on Tomorrowland mainstage.

I totally agree with u. I'm over 50 and I got caught in2 electronic music/TECHNO for 30 yrs permanently now. Some electronic tracks happened also in the 80's, like M/A/R/R/S in '87 as u might know. 'Twas my youth. And acid at the end of the 80's.The roots of electro began much earlier, just 2 name Kraftwerk 4 instance in the 60's, as u may know too. And how could i forget VISAGE !? But i listen 2 all styles of music in a certain way. I know a lot of dj's and i' ve discovered her just over 3 yrs ago.That's only because she' s a young genious. But she' s got good styles. Reminds me hardly 2 the 90's. And i know Pink Floyd + Led Zeppelin as well of course. Depends on how you define edm, you can either think of it as the specific genre that is played on radio produced by for example the Chainsmokers or you can see it as an umbrella term for electronic music and then it it includes the harder styles, techno and much more. And atleast i think the latter is the better one.
