On this Trail of History we explore the neighborhoods and the educational institution that make Charlotte’s West End historically and culturally vital to our city’s story. Meet a local historian and a city planner who’ve teamed up to preserve the rich history of this part of town. We’ll learn how Johnson C. Smith University to this day acts as a magnet for drawing people to the area as it has for decades. And we’ll speak with leaders building bridges within this historic community as it sees an influx of newcomers. Charlotte's Historic West End, only on Trail of History.

Great video that represents the history of the area! The change Mrs. Counts speaks of is gentrification! Revitalization means restoring not pushing out and taking over. Do you think this type of change would take place in Myers Park's old run-down houses? It is the city's responsibility to protect and fund the historical implications of the community along with the long-term residents and businesses (primarily JCSU and churches). It's very disappointing to see this type of revitalization. This is harm; a significant cause for displacement due to unaffordability of once-affordable living, taking advantage of the vulnerable, and greed.

I wonder why JCSU doesn't buy some of the older buildings and use them for campus related things, or also relocate the buildings to their campus. I know other schools move buildings that are historic and put them on campus and use them for certain things.
