Dear Charlotte I'm a woman in her 70s, and I just love your attitude and humor. You are the modern-day equivalent of Dear Abby and Miss Manners, with the added bonus of humor and getting to the point. I think a casting agent somewhere is going to steal you away from us and put you in a TV series or movie. Hopefully you will be writing your own lines as well.😍

Being a parent of one naturally entitled 14 yr old, (mostly my fault…I understand. But the oldest and the youngest of the 3 didn’t act this way) , who didn’t have the clothes she wanted clean one morning, had the audacity, AUDACITY!, to say to me, and I quote, “you have a washing machine, why don’t you use it”!!!! That was the very day she started doing her own laundry!!! I’m still amazed and bemused by that comment!!!
@AdventuresinCritterland
@AdventuresinCritterland 2 жыл бұрын
LOL the exact same thing happened in our house - when our daughter was 14 she got ticked because I was behind on laundry, I invited her to do a load if she's in a hurry to wear her special jeans. She replied, "but Mom, that's YOUR job!" ...the look on her face was instant regret, like a deer in headlights, she tried to fix it "I mean... like, you usually do it..." but it was too late! From that point forward she has been doing her own laundry, that was 2 years ago! Valuable lesson for her LOL!

@kaitlinwilson5439
@kaitlinwilson5439 2 жыл бұрын
@@WaningGibbous I don't think that's entirely fair to say. Teenagers are going through so much emotional and social development in that time and they're more likely to act up during that time than ever as they test the boundaries of their lives. Sounds like the were just taking luxuries for granted. Without the full story it can't be said one hundred percent, but that comment was just uncalled for.

My 5 year old said today in the grocery store “you said we would get these cookies.” I respond “no I never did.” He then went “well we are getting them!” And this guy next to me looked at me I’m guessing to see my response would be and my normal comment “now that you are demanding it no we aren’t. If you asked kindly then I would have been open to it.” The guy and the cashier nodded at me like “good job mom.” No entitlement up on my house!

To all the parents out there that don’t believe in saying the word “no” to your kids or disciplining them (non physical, obviously) at all. You are creating the next generation of Karens. Congratulations. Also, a little rule growing up from my mom during gift receiving: “you get what you get and you don’t get upset”. While shopping: “you can look, but you can’t touch” (unless you’re going to buy it, which only is an option if you have money as a kid). Those are the rules: no “and, ifs, or buts”.
@corecaidete
@corecaidete 2 жыл бұрын
The rule was if it was breakable, I kept my hands to myself. I could always touch things (I liked to feel fabrics and such) and want them but there was always a chance she was still going to say no. If she did, we would just shrug our shoulders. There was no arguing. If we wanted it bad enough, we asked for Christmas or our birthday.

I spent wasted decades doing stuff for "friends", like helping them move house etc, but whenever I needed help with anything none of them were ever available, not one single time - it was always the same old shit excuse that they were busy, even if I asked them months in advance. When I got sick of it and stopped being the only one to ring them, and stopped being the only one making the effort to visit them (some of them lived hours away), I never heard back from a single one of them even one fucking time. So now I mostly HATE human beings, and I have no friends, but at least I'm not hurting anymore from being so used, abused, and taken advantage of!!!

I had a coworker that put a go fund me up for like $10,000 for a car. He worked in higher education and was asking students who he served for donations and they were giving it to him. I have never been more disgusted with another human being. We are here to help those students. He also had just gotten back from a trip to Disney World with his boyfriend that he paid for. Like if you can afford Disney World then you can afford a car don’t bag from other people. He just thought the world owed him everything.

The baecation one reminded me of the time a guy I was seeing invited me to the beach for two weeks and paid for everything. It was great. We went to festivals, ate out every night. When we came back I found out he had stolen the money. I should have guessed because he was no more than 23yrs old, and he wasn't famous or anything to have made so much money already. 😅

I know a few people who've paid for an entire vacation for their significant other before. However, it was always for something special or something; Proposel, birthday, pregnancy announcement, seeing someone you used to know, etc. And the significant other never expected the vacation, never asked for it, and were very hesitant to go. Seeing posts about actual people who just expect to have things handed to them in life for no other reason than they want it is just annoying. Sure, it's nice to have something given to you every once in a while, and it's not wrong to enjoy it. But when it becomes something that you just expect or feel entitled to, that's just them being selfish and horrible.

One of these remind me of a Norwegian tradition we call "dugnad". It is when the community/friends/family get together to help each other. The host usually invites to a dugnad letting people know what the goal of the day is, and they are expected to care for participants and provide refreshments. It is seen as a social gathering. At the end there is often a dinner or party to celebrate (arranged by the host). Last year we had a dugnad to help my sister tear down and throw a large extention of her house (it had water damages) . It was fun. :)

Sorry to reply to such an old comment but I actually came here to see whether there are other people sharing my experience. 😅 In my culture it’s actually very common that some works are done with friends’ and families’ help. The one who hosts the “working party” of course takes care of food and beverages (generously!!!), and fun and games after the work is done. And of course if someone has helped you, you’ll help them back, because this is how it works. These are usually some works in farms or summer homes, reconstructions, making fire wood etc. All sorts of activities that require many hands and muscle power in short period of time.

I think the entitlement comes in when poster shows her apparent jealousy of NONESSENTIAL workers by insulting them with a characterization of laziness. I've been laid off for almost a year and I would LOVE to go back to work, but business isn't good so I can't. Implying people have a choice in every case is just ignorant. Edit: UPDATE! The vacation part remind me when I left my job to do my euro trip. One of my female colleague publicly told me that it would be great to do that trip (you know, the kind of way to ask when you espect the other guy to say "you can join if you want" but for nothing in return), so, publicly, with a smile, I said if you have 10000 € and 4 months off, yeah, you can. The part I don't get though is if I was the one providing the service, I would just be stoked that even if she didn't like me as a person, that she admired my work enough to still support me by paying for my services instead of going somewhere else. Honestly, that's actually pretty flattering in a weird way. And not having to talk to a person who clearly doesn't like me? Bonus.
