Nigel Ogden, former presenter of BBC Radio 2's "The Organist Entertains" takes center stage at the prestigious Empress Ballroom in Blackpools magnificent Winter Gardens. Nigel skillfully brings to life the timeless melodies of Erno Rapee and Lew Pollack's "Charmaine" and "Diane."
The organ was purchased and installed by volunteers from Cannock Chase Organ Club, and it was officially opened in 2014. It currently has 12 ranks which are as follows:-
Tibia solo
Tibia main
Vox
Sax
Tuba
E Horn
Kinura
Orchestal oboe
Flute
Diapason
Violin
Violin Celeste
The Empress Ballroom was opened in 1896 to designs by Magnall & Littlewood, with plasterwork by J.M Boekbinder. It measures 110ft x 189ft with a barrel-vaulted ceiling height of 70ft, a space of some 1,022,45 cubic feet in volume.

What a beautifully played and sensitive arrangement-Bravo! I'm a big fan of Nigel's stirring arrangements for marches, etc. and I'm feeling even more admiration, knowing he can excel in this style as well. It's not often that a musician capable of barn-burners is able to show the restraint necessary to keep an arrangement like this uncluttered and peaceful. One word: Taste.

Two lovely melodies, realized by the talented body and soul of a musician of sensitivity. Thank you Mr. Ogden, and those responsible, for sharing this posting with the world at large through KZfaq. BBC may not have appreciated the world of organ enthusiasts, but thank goodness for KZfaq to perpetuate the sounds and memories. DJ in Knoxville TN

Nigel always makes it look so easy ! The BBC should be ashamed of themselves that they took The Organist Entertains off the air. All they seem to play is ticktock noise, nothing from the Great American or British Songbooks anymore.

@@OrganMusicYT True. Some players in the 'flying fingers' brigade almost make rapid playing a competitive activity; not so the likes of Nigel Ogden playing this piece, and so many that Reginald Dixon delivered over a 40 year span. There is a maturity of blended sound from this great instrument that beckons the listener to stay a while in the meadow of musical memories, and be renewed by the sound of it.

It was recently installed in the ballroom. There was a wurlitzer organ installed in 1935 but it was removed in 1970 and went to the BBC studios. This organ was installed in 2014. It is made from new and reclaimed chests and pipes.
