THE REVIEW
I watch each episode with my own commentary, often pausing the scenes to get my words out without having to talk over the episode, and also to point out and analyze the show's art and animation. I have seen each episode already growing up, so these reviews are to compare and contrast the five categories listed below.
PLOT (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
The foundation of the episode. Uniqueness and overused tropes are taken into account, but it is also judged on how well it tells the story of the episode. An episode can score a 5 even with a basic/ cliche plotline as long as it has good pacing, worthy use of its tropes, and feels well-polished. An episode can lose points due to plotholes, uneven storytelling, and relying too heavily on cliches to do the work for it.
CHARACTERIZATION (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
How well the characters are written. Do they feel like themselves compared to the grand narrative of the franchise? Are the supporting or one-off characters interesting, or pure plot devices? Did the humor land? Did the actions and character motivations make sense?
VISUALS (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
Basically, everything that happens on-screen. Character Design. Animation. Backgrounds. Creative mechanics and solutions. If there is CGI or digital effects added, how well do they blend into the show, and were they used as an enhancement, or a crutch?
IMPORTANCE (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
This includes, but is not strictly based on, how important the episodes are to the current story arc (if there is one) or the general narrative of the Ben 10 Franchise. Points can also be awarded for how impactful the episode was, or how favored/ important it is to the general Ben 10 fanbase. I ask myself, "If I skipped this, would I be missing out on the 'Ben 10 Experience?' "
ENTERTAINMENT (Scaled from 1 to 5)
Pretty much the most important part of developing a tv show. You can be perfect in all four of the previous categories, but the episode can still be boring. On the flip side, the episode can be absolute garbage, but still an enjoyable watch. How likely would you be to put this episode on if you were in the mood to watch Ben 10?

This episode was way before they found out Vilgax was alive. They thought Vilgax died in his ship when it crash landed on earth fighting Ultimate Swampfire

In the episode, Hex may have wanted to kill Gwen, but only because she was stealing his books, which is fair and never actively did something evil. Besides "Time Heals", he's never really shown being actively villainous which is what he was in the original series. Also, once Gwen mentioned Charmcaster and Ledgerdomain, he was reminded of why his brother sacrificed himself in the first place and the last thing we hear him say is that he "needed to be left alone". After being left alone to reflect, he realized that his brother wouldn't want him to be doing evil which proved to be true in this episode when Spellbinder was shown to be disappointed in Charmcaster for doing something so villainous. That's what led him to decide to just become a teacher and live a peaceful life in Omniverse.

If in Multiverse of Madness, Wanda wanted to bring back Vision and they had a conversation very similar to the one between charmcaster and her father, it would solve about 5% of the problems in that film.

- So, admittedly, when I first saw this as a kid, I didn't realize it was Diagon that she was striking a deal with. Knowing it now, makes me wonder why it bothered giving returning the souls? - I did admire how somber Hex behaved when Gwen told him tht Charmcaster returned to Ledgerdomain, and when he spoke of Spellbinder.... - Speaking of Spellbinder, I'm sorry but given that design and voice, all I'm seeing is Aquaman from Batman: Brave and the Bold

Personally what bothers me with that episode is the complete 180 on Charmcaster's part. In the previous episode she seemed well on her way to be redeemed and even left the trio on good terms. But when they come back here not only has she returned to tyrant like Adwaita, but she *immediately* treats them as enemies again. I kinda wish it had been more progressive, like she initially welcome them when they come back and she seems friendly, but then they find out what she's planning and turn on her only for her to *then* absorb their life.

2:09 I think the trio believed vilgax was dead because he got sucked into dagon’s seal in a previous episode. I haven’t rewatched said episode, but I bet the trio either thought that that event killed vilgax or that vilgax getting sent to dagon’s dimension was essentially a death sentence.

Honestly my friend and I find this episode makes more sense considering our frustrations on how Gwen's powers flip flops between OP and 'One hit against my shield knocks me the fuck out and I never use any spell that might actually be useful despite past episodes' and the fact that Charmcaster IS LEGIT POWERFUL and does know more magic than Gwen, Charmcaster spent her whole life studying magic by all means she should know more things than Gwen, Gwen just studied CHARMCASTER'S book and the occasional other stolen book from HEX's library, a library in which Charmcaster has access to far more than Gwen. When it comes to pure Magical powers yes Gwen does have the stronger magic abilities as an Anodite but Charmcaster is more knowledgeable and consistent with her powers, I can believe that with the Alpha Rune (despite the lack of lore on both Alpha Rune and Anodites) can kill Gwen. She already showed that she can take Gwen's powers (some episodes write her as underpowered like Hit them where they live but honestly that's a whole other tangent) but I stand that Charmcaster is the better sorceress in knowlage while Gwen just has raw magic powers

Honestly I feel like if Ben either went Ultimate Chromastone or turned into Ghostfreak, he would have been ok or could have stopped charmcaster from killing everyone Charmcaster would have still gotten three souls as even Addwaitya didn’t survive Ben could just sit and watch the talk with her and Spellbinder and after everyone is brought back, Ben maybe even tries to comfort charmcaster as Ben knows what it’s like to loose a close family member when he thought G-Max was dead

Hearing your thoughts on Hex's redemption, I kinda wonder what it would have been like if you switched Hex's and Charmcaster's roles in Omniverse. Imagine if, after this episode, Charmcaster decides to cast away her position as ruler of Ledgerdomain and status as a sorceress to instead pursue a more mundane life. But since she's only twenty, potentially with little knowledge of anything outside of magic, the only job she could find is as a teacher of magic and sorcery at Gwen's college. Just imagine a potential after-class talk she could have with Gwen. Charmcaster: Hey, no hard feelings about... You know... Killing you... Hex, meanwhile, takes advantage of her absence to take over Ledgerdomain, turning Addwaitya into a stone doll and capturing Michael when he tries to break back in.

It gets really annoying how a lot of problems post-"Ben 10,000 Returns" could be solved if Ben just remembered he had Upgrade. Later on, they make a big deal about whether Jury Rigg could stop Animo's machine but I'm here like "Bro, you have a Galvanic Mechamorph! Use him!"

So this is what it feels like when your favorite episode doesn’t get a full breakdown huh. Ah well. I love this one. The whole journey and build-up to the climax is great and the ending truly hits hard. Just the idea of Charmcaster going through all of that, years of study and dedication to get her father back and succeeding, only to have him tell her to her face how horrified he is of her actions and what she has become is a lot. How do you even move on from that? What does she even do now? God did this have potential for development and god does it still piss me off what they did to her in Omniverse. All that potential…completely flushed

When Kevin absorbed Ultimate Aggregor energy he also absorbed the Map Of Infinity and when Cooper heald him they said that all the energy came back where it was Before Aggregor Absorbed it. So Every pieve of the Map Of Infinity returned where it was which The Alpha Rune did

Still wish they'd leaned into her corrupted youth more, which Kevin was sympathizing with. Adwaita's rise to Hexs cruel training could have easily spun into Charmcaster never learning proper Mana control. With her seeming fall to insanity in Omniverse they could have easily pushed her lack of proper training into a drug abuse/alcoholism parable I feel. Mana literally driving her insane since Ledgerdomain is literally made of it

Technically she only killed Kevin and gwen. Ben got himself knocked out and his soul ripped out cuz he used chromastone instead of waybig. Could've even used ultimate chromastone but they didn't care enough to give him an ultimate

AF Chromastone felt like the second strongest of those first 10 in the series, and he got the job done 90% of the time. UA Chromastone is like…dude, ur lucky Feedback hasn’t been introduced.

Why didn’t Ben go ultimate when he realized Chromastone wasn’t strong enough? Like seriously, it should *NOT* be that easy to kill Ben due to his sheer versatility And the fact he can quick change to, he may not have master control, but a Ben 10 that can turn at least a few times in a fight before running the battery shouldn’t be easy to take out, even with something like a soul sucking Nuke

With how much more effort UA Season 3 made in showing off Fasttrack and Eatle, two aliens with derivative power sets, you have to wonder why they didn't do the same for the five Andromeda aliens. Also, RIP Chromastone.

One of the top 3 best story and emotional episode. Literally a parallel of the movie multiverse of madness with charmcaster taking a role as wanda wanting to bring a family member back into existence. Charmcaster turning evil again is based on the alpha rune corrupting her plus she has been using it throughout her time in the magic realm since time moves fast there. Charmcaster powers were on the level as a god so it makes sense that she was a able to kill the trio. The only way charmcaster was able to summon dagon was bc 1:12 where she absorb gwen anodite soul being that dagon tried to use gwen as a powerful pawn to free him. Dagon magical deal makes a sense because like all supernatural show magic always comes with a loopole or price , literally the magic in ben 10 is just like the magic in the vampire diaries. The golem creature being alive was always mention they say they are under mind control. Even the ending scene made sense bc kevin could relate to how charmcaster felt bc he went throughout multiple similar scenarios. Like lets keep it for real if a character isnt gonna add something to the story there is no need to redeem them. Tbh it giving bias breakdown like idk why kuro has a major attachment to this character but f#ck harmcaster and i mean that

My head cannon is that Hex, ever since he and Charmcaster grew further apart, he took a lot of reflection on his life, and how the cons of the influence of magic have had on his family, but it was Charmcaster's vile attempts to revive Spellbinder that were the breaking point. Hex decides that this life isn't for him anymore, and while he may not be able to fix his past wrongdoings, he can at least pass on his knowledge to the next generation at Friedkin University so that others don't make the same mistakes he did.

The curious thing about Hex is that he never redeem himself, he just change his way offscreen, in the OG he is a recurring threat that was trying to steal magical artifacts to become more powerful, but in UAF he just spend most of his time in his house minding his own buisness, the only reason that he attack Gwen is because she keeps breaking into his house and stealing his books, and the only time he was show to do something evil was in an alternate timeline and they didn't even explain how that happens, so when he appears in Omniverse and desides to become a teacher is easy to belive since in universe it's been years since the last time Hex committed a crime (that we know of).

The Rock Monsters being sentient also brings up the question of why the Omnitrix doesn't scan their DNA. When asked about this, Derrick J. Wyatt had to come with the handwave that due to the Omnitrix being science-based, it's incompatible with magic-based creatures.

Doubtful because Catch A Falling Star doesn't really add anything to the overall narrative, and pretty much gets erased from existence with Captain Nemesis's appearance and Jennifer Nocturne's cameo in Omniverse. Only thing notable about it is that it's the first time Ben uses Clockwork.

@@theking8347 I was writing a very long response but in short form: he has made long reviews about episodes that aren't plot-heavy like the recent Gwen episode and the next one (Catch A Falling Star) is special like that one. And even this one too, Charmcaster being a big secondary character with a ton of episodes about her and this one is a big episode but anyway, we can just hope that he stops mistreating the Ben 10 breakdowns by skipping episodes that deserve long ones like this one. And even he skipped plot-important ones like the Map Of Infinity one where they go to the water planet. Such an error in the matrix this quick reviews thing is.

Charmcaster being the first villain to successfully kill Ben, Gwen, and Kevin once again cements how Ben doesn't always win. It is also tragic to see the main characters die, but even more tragic to see Charmcaster broken at the end due to her sacrificing everyone being undone by her father Spellbinder, who she was trying to bring back in the first place. Charmcaster was wrong to sacrifice all those lives and Spellbinder had to call her out for it. Since then, Charmcaster's villain role has been rather ambiguous. She's become powerful enough to actually be a threat to Ben, Gwen, and Kevin, yet she sometimes loses to them. She allies herself with their enemies, and sometimes allies herself with Ben. Plus, what happened to her in the end of the original Ben 10 series is still unknown. It all started with this episode.

@@StareachValcin but I bet for a fact, when Gwen masters her Anodite form, she can easily beat Charmcaster even with the alpha rune. Anodites are right behind celestialsapiens in terms of powers, Verdona is literally the peak of a all powerful and knowledgeable Anodite. I definitely think Verdona easily beats charmcaster with the alpha rune. I think the Alpha rune can beat a inexperienced Anodite but not one in their peak of power and knowledge of mana.

Before my rewatch back when these breakdowns started.I pretty much believed that he died after the fountain of youth episode back in classic. I wasn't not wrong in thinking that he was really old and without the fountain to preserve his life yeah I thought he died.

They never outright say that it’s Dagon, I think Charmcaster just refers to him as ‘Old One’ but compare the voice from this episode to Dagon and it’s literally identical so it’s definitely meant to be Dagon

Also, it's very clearly implied that Charmcaster physically killed Addwaitya BEFORE taking his soul, hence the trio's reaction. But he's alive and well in Omniverse. But I guess the circumstance of death doesn't really matter since Ben also technically killed himself by stepping into the machine.

This is always my sticking point on Charmcaster's "redemption" arc, regardless of how you classify what a redemption is. She literally commits genocide in this episode, and everyone brushes it off because it gets undone by someone who's not her. Especially the whole, "she's suffered enough" bit before the trio leave Lederdomain. No, her dad being disappointed in her and going back to being as dead as he was before she did this is not a fair penance for the highest body count of any character until we get to OV. I mean, how do you bounce back from "I killed 60,000 people for entirely selfish reasons" to people being okay with you as a person, even if not an ally? Charmcaster is a classic example of having a sympathetic backstory is not the same as actually being sympathetic. And she's kind of always been that way, since way back in her OG appearances, where she would pretend to be more of a victim than she was to lower her enemies' guards, flaunt her new dominance over Hex after he was turned into a child, and the 2 occasions where she was just a villain on her own without Hex even being present. I think that is what ultimately makes more people fine with her being the villain she really has always been while Hex had a kind of redemption (more like a retirement), cause Hex never did anything all that bad and hasn't been a relevant villain since "Time Heals", and that was mostly Gwen's fault anyway.

She’s always been over the top and hammy, she has her most depth here and even has a sad backstory, but the closest she gets to full on altruism is when she stays back to fight Adwatia apparently for the betterment of the people of Ledgerdomain but she turns around and offers them all up to an Eldritch horror with no remorse whatsoever.

Charmcaster allied with the Trio only to take the Rune from Addwaitya, this is not a synonym of redemption. The world is full of fans who see a villain do one good thing and overestimate it, not seeing the context and calling it redemption

Still got pissed off but not because i believed she redeemed herself. I got dissaponted because her controling the realm of magic is completely ignored in omniverse. I expected her to be treated more like a neutral force that Ben and the others dont want to piss off. She controls the realm of magic and is all powerfull, but dont really have any ambitions after what happened in this episode. But she somehow loses the rune to Siscare and becomes a regular bad guy again in omniverse.

@@EduardoTorelly power corrupts, addwyita got mad with power. add the trauma of her dad dying again, the seeming isolation from other proper people, and micheal breaking her heart, she can make a slip up like anyone else. Especially when it's zs'skayr we're talking about, dude doesn't even give off mana and is naturally stealthy as a ghost, plus he was able to hoodwink vilgax of all folks.

I hate episodes where something important happens (like character deaths) but by the end everything is nullified. Useless garbage to plug a hole in the air. It's not even a filer where they come up with at least some kind of story, it's just not a fully realized idea.
