There is no world other than this world;
There is no heaven and no hell;
The realm of religions and Gods,
are fabricated by stupid imposters.
While life is yours, live with joy;
as No one can escape Death's searching eye:
When once your body is burnt,
How can you ever again return?
These were the words of the Charvakas, a major materialistic philosophy of ancient India. This was one of the oldest non-Vedic and non-Dharmic schools. According to them, there is no life after death. The only life we have in this world is not permanent and therefore this life itself should be enjoyed completely. The attainment of sensual pleasure and wealth should be the only goal of a man.

@@AkshayChaitanya The Lokayatans did not believe in the concepts (whether they be considered deities or any other mental masturbatory word-games you want to play to make your Vedas especial) presented within the useless Vedas; it is not "Western atheism" it is the general meaning behind the Anglo-Latin form of the Greek atheos; that same general meaning applies to the Lokayata (Charvaka) philosophy regarding their rejection of those particular god memes presented within the Vedic primtivity.

@@sufficientmagister9061 concept of God in others is different. Classical schools of Indian philosophy donot entertain that. Western atheism isn't a general term because it is used to define charvaka in academic world. It is based on some creator whose acceptance, rejection proves theism atheism.

@@user-jh5id3rm9v Those particular God concepts may have not been the same as the deities in the Western World; however, the philosophical reasoning of the Lokayatans was very similar to those of the philosophers during the Age of Englightenment (and similar to those of the "New Atheists"). The general meaning behind atheismos is quite similar to the rejection of those god (or something like it) concepts advocated by the Lokayatans (Charvakans) concerning the Vedic deities. Not the term "Western atheism", but the general meaning behind it can apply to some parts of some non-Western philosophies regarding god concepts (or god-like concepts).

The big challenge I've found in the Cārvāka philosophy is the apparent simplicity of it. I understand that much of the writing of the proponents might be lost and that is why we don't see more about the utilitarian aspects of society. Debt without concern for repayment, for instance, seems like a problem because it destroys the underlying mutual trust that allows for debt to be possible, in the first place. If you mess with it, you can't borrow anymore and that, in turn, negatively affects your enjoyment of material goods in this lifetime itself.

Supposedly in arthashatra chanakya tells people to learn logic and administration from Lokayata guys. This idea that they don't respect debt is a propaganda spread either by vedists or buddhists. Both hated them and much of the literature about them is from those hateful books.

@@dustudent1637Pashupatinath seal is not evidence of Hinduism. The development of Vedic thought we call as Hinduism was not developed during IVC but later. Shiva,Rudra is the evidence, not Vedas, which is Hinduism. Hope you get the nuance

Vedic period came later but pre-vedic Hin;duism was there in IVC. It's literally a fa;ct. Shiva/Rudra/Maheshwara are one of the name of Pashupati(Shiva). Hope your com;ment would make sense from next time unlike the original com;mentor who is taking his hi;story classes from cheap utube channels instead of going to school.
