What's a bit unfortunate is that the live version for this song at Legend 1997 is one of the safer Babymetal videos to react to. That performance is absolutely massive! Great reaction as always though. I hope you react to them again sooner rather than later. I think you'd really enjoy 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' Live at Sonisphere UK 2014.

Yo I'm telling you, Babymetal concerts are one of the most fun concerts you can attend, so much energy in the crowd! Dancing people at the front, multiple pits in the middle. I can highly recommend watching their live versions, not sure if you didn't in the first place for this song because of copyright, but do it anyways outside of reaction videos if it has to do with copyright. :D To understand why Babymetal concerts are awesome to attend you could watch 'Catch Me If You Can" live at the legend 1997 concert in Japan. ☺

This is one of Babymetal hymns, this song is from the first CD so original members (I think they were 15/13 at the time of this video). On some live concerts, Yui or Moa take on lead vocals for the last part of the song, to celebrate their birthdays. There's one called Legend-M, for Moa 20th birthday, her voice is so mature is amazing, I would love to hear more of her solo. Look for it if you can, but I advise not to upload a reaction, because that video is nuked almost instantly by the copyright army lol

I first hesrd this song in 2013 and was a fan before Suzuka stopped smashing her head into the nightstand. It's a banger in person. Still my favorite song by them. It's hard to divorce the visuals from the songs, they are such an integral component. There are songs I hear when an album drops that I listen to and don't fully comprehend, and then see a live version and it's like "now I get it." This is when the record company took notice - these are their first costumes provided for them. Prior they borrowed clothes from fellow students and teachers to perform in. And shout out to Su, Moa, and Yui. They have such confidence and are fearless in how they carry themseilves. So fierce at a young age. Prodigies really - 12-14 here.

I'm one of those weird people that likes both the metal parts and the pop melody parts equally. Or maybe its not so weird. Who knows. :) Actually, I'm not sure i'd classify Babymetal as pop vocals anyway. More like rock. Maybe in the style of Heart or Pat Benatar? It's like Babymetal took the best from pop (rock), (The melodies and stage performance), and the best from metal, (the music), and blended it perfectly.

Chase, PLEASE react to BABYMETAL's "Tales Of The Destinies" next! The song has Dream Theatre influences. Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater said "am BLOWN away by what you've played me of "Tales of the Destinies" is full-on PROG METAL". There is only one live performance of that song due to it's multiple time signatures making it difficult for choreography, and there isn't a good quality performance video on KZfaq, so you will surely get blocked if you react to the live performance video that is on a different website. It's best to react to just the audio, which I think is a better idea so you can hear all the details of the song that gets downed out or lost a bit in the performance video. I think you will enjoy reacting to that song.

You're totally right about the visuals. BABYMETAL is incredibly theatrical, even by metal standards which is a music genre that's already heavily theatrical. That's why the choreography is crucial too. The music is awesome but without its just not the same.

BABYMETAL 101 Founded 2010 and produced by Key “Koba” Kobayashi from the Amuse Inc. talent agency. Babymetal name comes from the birth of a new style of metal fusing j-pop with metal creating what they call Kawaii Metal (Cute-Metal). The group currently consists of Suzuka Nakamoto aka “Su-Metal” (22 years old) sometimes referred to as Vocal and Dance, and Moa Kikuchi aka Moa-Metal (21 years old) sometimes referred to as Scream and Dance. With a rotating trio of girls filling the third slot, in a 3-member formation. These girls are known as Avengers and are Kano Fujihara (16 years old), Riho Sayashi (21 years old), and Momoko Okazaki (17 years old). They are supported by a rotating selection of talented backing musicians known as the Kami Band (Kami is usually poorly translated as gods, but in truth it more closely means awe inspiring spirit, entity, or object) It is why they are dressed in white to look like ghosts or spirits, though Kami being used as God(s) is so common in translation the white outfits get lost. Past Formations. Heavy Music Club Era (2010-2012) From 2010 to 2012 Babymetal consist of a three-member formation, Suzuka Nakamoto (Age 12), Moa Kikuchi (Age 10), and Yui Mizuno aka Yui-Metal (Age 10). First starting out as the Heavy Music Club as a subunit within the Developmental Idol Group created by Amuse in 2010 known as Sakura Gakuin. Sakura Gakuin is group that introduces girls between the ages of 10-15 to music, dance, modeling, and acting through Japanese Pop idol music and culture. Given a school theme, all three would be a part of Sakura Gakuin until their graduation from it in the same school year they would graduate from Japanese middle school or 15 years old. Suzuka graduated in March 2013, and Moa and Yui in March of 2015. Sakura Gakuin is a fantastic group with great kawaii jpop songs in their own right. During this time there was no lore, and the girl’s costumes were more punkish in nature which they helped create. They also didn’t perform with live music, using a backing track or the “Skeleton band” people pretending to play music behind them. Music Video of this Era Doki Doki Morning Iine (Pronounced EE-NAH spelled i i n e) Headbangya Babymetal Era (2012-2017) Starting in 2012 with the Legend I concert, Babymetal began its slow divorce from Sakura Gakuin, and was the first introduction of the Kami Band as well as the “Lore” that is still heavily involved in Babymetal but makes far less sense than it did during this time. The Lore is complex and involves a battle against other evil idol corporations, gaining powers running a resistance group, all at the direction of a mythical deity known as the fox god, against an all power enemy known as Akiba. The first Legend show I was the Kami Bands introduction to the end, but it also had the Skeleton Band which is seen in the wildly popular Gimmie Chocolate Music Video. This was followed by Legend D, and then Legend Z, in which it was learned that Babymetal would continue as its own entity after Suzuka’s graduation from Sakura Gakuin in March of 2013. Slowly over 2013 the Skeleton Band would be phased out of all live shows, as Babymetal came into their own. Babymetal as it is most commonly known as with Su-Metal, Moa-Meta, and Yui-Metal, Kami Band, and a somewhat understandable lore is what consisted for the majority of it’s existence. Also established beyond the 3 member formation, they had 2 other set ups, one was what fans called Su-Solos, and it would just be Su on stage with the Kami band, performing a solo, and the other is known as Black Babymetal by the band themselves, which consisted of just Moa and Yui. Music Videos of this Era Gimmie Chocolate Megitsune Rondo of Nightmare - With mischief of the Gods Intro (Su Solo and a great expedition of the Kami Band) Road of Resistance Live in Japan (Co-written by Dragonforce) Iijime, Dame, Zettai Live at Sonisphere (No More Bullying Forever) Karate The Dark Times, The Chosen 7 Era In December 2017, Yui would miss the Legend-S concert for health reasons, these health problems would prosiest into 2018 and greatly affect the 2018 touring season bring the “Chosen 7” formation, consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi, and 2 backing dancers Minako Maruyama, and Minami Tsukui. Changes they would not tell fans and all throughout 2018 communicate extraordinarily little causing lots of pain for all involved fan and performer. This era is noted by their strange armor like costumes, sometimes referred to as Elf Armor. To make the poor communication, and Yui’s absence wasn’t bad enough, one of the more regular Kami band members, Mikio Fujioka passed away after falling off a balcony in late December 2017 while star gazing. A beloved and incredibly talented musician lost leaving behind his wife and only child. In September 2018 Yui would formally resign from Babymetal, stating her unspecified health and wishing to move on. Babymetal themselves announced that the group will move on focusing on Suzuka and Moa. (Something many idiots within the fandom refuse or are too stupid to understand) In October Babymetal had a concert called Dark Night Carnival which added dancers, Shoko Akiyama, Saya Hirai, and Kotono, placing a total of seven girls on stage. This was also done without warning to fans and was an absolute mess. Babymetal would finish off the 2018 tour season returning to the 3-member formation with just Saya Hirai joining them in southeast Asia and Australia. Ending one of the most troubling times in Babymetal’s history. Music Videos of this Era (These MVs do not feature the members in them at all) Distortion Starlight Metal Galaxy Era The current set up was first introduced in 2019 during the Babymetal Arises concert in Yokohama, before the start, the “Avenger” support dancer concept was explained in the lore, and the concept thanks to communication and a maintaining of the 3 member formation brought Babymetal out of dark times brought about during 2018. Babymetal seemed to have returned to its roots with the Avengers, as 2 of the three (Kano and Momoko) come from Sakura Gakuin. The third Riho, went to the same performing arts school as Suzuka during the same time, Actors School Hiroshima aka ASH. Music Videos of this Era Pa Pa Ya Elevator Girl Shanti Shanti Da Da Dance (Avenger confusion) Which Avenger one sees can be confusing for those new to Babymetal. For the Music Videos, Pa Pa Ya, Elevator Girl, and Shanti Shanti Shanti, it is Kano Fujihara, who was just 14 years old at the time. Da Da Dance is a compilation of Momoko and Riho and a splicing of 2 different shows. In most fan cam videos of the American and European tour it would be either Riho or Momoko, as they toured with Babymetal in 2019. Kano had responsibilities with Sakura Gakuin as its president, a position Suzuka and Moa both held in Sakura Gakuin, and she’s never flown on a plane before. Some fans for 2019 did throw a stupid temper tantrum over the use of new Kami Band members who are from the west now known as the West Coast Kami Band, but like how the girls won over many, so did they and the payoff with the Legend Metal Galaxy concert was well worth it. COVID Era COIVD-19 has messed up a lot of things for everyone, Babymetal had to cancel their Asian tour, as well their big 10th Anniversary on October 10, 2020. Forced to keep it rather tame something very unlike Babymetal as even in their failures like the entire 2018 tour they do it septically. The question for many fans is what of the Avengers, since COVID, Avenger Riho Sayashi has signed with a new agency and has move on to other projects, including starting a fan club, which appears to rule her out of ever being an Avenger again. Kano Fujihara has graduated from Sakura Gakuin on August 30, 2020, a near 4 month delay. However, she and fellow Sakura Gakuin graduates Soyoka Yoshida, Tsugumi Aritomo, and Momoe Mori in the formation of @onefive. Which leaves Momoko Okazaki as last standing Avenger with no new commitments. However, Kano was technically in Sakura Gakuin, @onefive, and Babymetal all at the same time for almost a year so it is possible she will still be an Avenger. Music Videos of this Era BxMxC (First music video that isn’t footage from a show featuring Su and Moa since Karate in 2015)

Chase, when I hear your comments regarding the vocals, I wish to remind you that the BABYMETAL concept is Japanese “Idol Pop” mashed up with Death Metal, plus a little EDM. Idol Pop has need around for decades and decades and is a genre familiar to generations of Japanese. That’s what makes BM such a brilliant concept. Search for “Morning Musume”, a long running TV show, to see examples of teen/pre-teen J-Pop singers in training.

I love this first album, even if you can clearly tell where have you heard this similar riff, or style or sound before in each song, it's still such a treasure! Any song, from the opening "BABYMETAL DEATH" to "Ijime, Dame, Zettai", it's a piece of awesomeness that won't happen again. I absolutely agree when you say that "it's a really really good product" - although I do hate to use the word "product" as it seems to compare them to a bag of Cheetos... but, nevertheless and apart of my love for them clashing with the sort of negative idea in the word "product", that's exactly what it is - a awesome idea, a really good product. And everything in it plays a big role. The music and a very clear notion of what rings as "true metal" behind the melodic voice of Su or the anime-like shouts of Yui and Moa sets the tone, but once you see them, it really catches you off-guard if you're watching Babymetal for the first time in one of these earlier videos. It's unsettling, shocking, agressive, brutal and... well, super Kawaii!! Babymetal is not something that you simply put the CD on and have a friend listen to it... if you want to show Babymetal to anyone properly, you need to show a few videos or a whole concert. Babymetal is more than just the music -you really need to watch them, Su, Moa and Yui. Only after watching them while listening to the music, you have truly experienced Babymetal... ONLY THEN you can listen to the album just because you love it, because by then, you have those girls in your head every time any music starts. Even though there are nasty evil sounds filling the room with growling voices singing "[[Ooi moo iikai? Moo iikai?]]" , you can help but smile when suddenly you hear Yui and Moa replying "Maada da yo"... I really don't care if they don't write their own songs (although Song 4 is written by Yui and Moa) or they don't play the instruments, nothing of that matters here, this is something unique, it's something to enjoy as a different thing (a different product, there you go...) normally you love it or you hate it. I for one, just love it and specially these first years. This album will always be one of my favs in my collection for it's genius concept and the way it shocked me, rocked me, jaw-dropped me... and another great thing happened: my Babymetal "trip" made me look to the east and say "These Japanese are crazy... what else will I find in Japan?"... and I found A LOT! I can say that at this moment, the 500 most played songs in my iTunes are all Japanese bands... that's all Babymetal's "fault"! PS - Out of (my own) curiosity, I went to check what was the less played of my whole library and its SLEEP, "Dopesmoker" 😂 ... but good lord, it's one song that lasts more than one hour of sluggish stoner desert rock... it's awesome, don't get me wrong... but... jeeezus...

You're big enough I wouldn't expect this video to stay up long since it's an official music video. Amuse unfortunately just seems to go after reactors really hard, despite reactors being a huge part of the reason BabyMetal is the worldwide phenomenon it is now. There are some amazing life performances of this song you should definitely check out.

I wouldn't call myself a serious Babymetal fan, but I think what really makes songs like this one work so well is the seamless transitions to/from the harder metal and the softer pop side of the song. I'm not a fan of metal or j-pop, but the mix of the two comes together to make something that sounds so good.

Great reaction - 'Headbanger' was a song I'd always wanted to see and hear live and my wish came true in February. The next best thing is a live performance video and Legend 1997 has been recommended already - here is the best link for that one kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h6ujgsR-x7Sqp6s.html and it doesn't get blocked, so you deserve to see a great live version too.

My vote for next would be "BxMxC" (basically rap metal, live if possible) or "Shanti Shanti Shanti" (Bollywood, yes Bollywood, metal, also good live). Just because I think you're ready to have your mind blown on just how "out there" they can go.

And two days after this video, you see "Kurenai" of X-japan, maybe now some things have sense right? On the 23, you see "Kurenai" of X-Japan, a modern version where wears a light version of a neck protector, but in the years of most success of X-Japan, Yoshiki must wear one exactly like the one who appears in this video. All the neck protector issue is obviously a reference to X-Japan´s drummer Yoshiki. Btw, the creador of Babymetal, the producer "Kobametal" is a huge fan of X-Japan But following the video, maybe you have see one little trick about Suzuka´s image. In almost all the short planes of him, she never blinks her eyes. She puts an intense look on the camera, a trick who used also Sir Anthony Hopkins in his performance of Anibal Lecter. This must be coordinate with the edition of the video, a little impressive thing who shows the attention of little details in this group. Not only at a level of composition, but also to the image of the group.

As a lot of people already said, you should've done a live version. All of the live videos from before 2015 are usually safe (maybe even safer than videos from their official channel) and I think there are two live versions from 2013 and 2014 on KZfaq. First of all, I like the song (it's one of my favorite live songs) and the video, but in my opinion, as a metal fan, the album track is, compared to the live performance, pretty badly mixed and overproduced (why do they always need these effects on her voice in the album tracks?). This song is the perfect example of "a song written to be played live". The fan interaction and especially the band make this song way better, heavier and all around more fun. Also, Su's screams, which aren't in the album/MV version, I shouldn't forget about them. But, it's cool you did another Babymetal song, I'm surprised it's not BxMxC, the newest video that was uploaded a little over a week ago. The girls were 14 (Su) and 13 (Moa, Yui) when the song was released. It was actually on Moa's 13th birthday (Jul 4th, 2012). Moa is still with Babymetal (the one on your right when they're seen all together on the stage for the first time), Yui (she's the one in your pause at around 9 min) is the one who left on hiatus at the end of 2017 and completely in 2018. Also, your explanation of the alleged "gimmick" is the same I use all the time. If Babymetal's a gimmick, 95% or more of bands/people in music are/have gimmicks. The whole big, burly, bearded, screaming dudes are a gimmick if you want to see it as such. I personally like a good gimmick if it's done well and the attention they get is earned by doing good music.

I like your analytical ear and how you can take apart song parts and structure on first listening, that's really impressive. The live versions of this song make use of an elongated breakdown in order to do some theatrical stuff on stage (I won't spoil what it is, and it's different stuff with each performance, anyway), so you might have to watch a few of them. ;-) Anyway, I still find small new details in their videos even after having watched them countless times, and this time it's the slow camera pan to the window at the end, and I wondered why they did that and then noticed the red moon (akatsuki) being visible there. A really smart visual allusion to another song from that same album.

Welcome back, Chase! As most likely noted below, the live "Legend 1997" version is definitely worth a look. I think you would enjoy either Syncopation or Tales of the Destinies. The safest KZfaq bet is a compilation video....but you will get the idea musically. As always, looking forward to more!

Chase! Love the insightful reaction as always, but you really missed a trick here. Headbanger is one of the few songs that has a live version available on KZfaq. It's arguably one of their greatest performances too! The energy the girls put in is insane! Here's the link - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j9Cair2hy8XOg6c.html Also, it's only Yui that has unfortunately left the band due to a health issue. She was the one on the left in the video. Su and Moa are still going strong. They released a new video last week for their song BxMxC that you have to check out. Guarantee you wouldn't have heard anything quite like it. Although that has a live version up too which is better than the official imo. Linky - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ral0ed2e16q9e6s.html

I do enjoy baby metal, and they are fun, even if they are not my favorite band out of Japan. I really enjoyed how you broke down some of the video production (nothing new with that, but always enjoy it) and I agree with your talk about gimmicks. I never knock a band for a gimmick, heck most the bands I grew up loving had gimmicks..heck the entire rock scene in the 80's were filled with gimmicks (guys with more make-up, had longer hair and wore tighter clothes then the women lol). I want to add a last thought: If it is a good song, there is no wrong version, only the version that is being reacted too! Hope you have a great day tomorrow Chase 😊

The song is about a 15yo girl going to her first Metal Concert. It's not about Su as she is 14yo at the time the video was made. Yui and Moa are 12yo. The neck collar is in reference to Yoshiki, drummer & prime song writer for X Japan. In concert he headbanged so hard it damaged his neck to the extent that his doctors required him to wear a Neck collar. There is a video where Su, Moa and Yui talk about making this video. FYI X Japan is likely the greatest metal Band you never heard of.
