Hey! 2024 and i just bought my F6x Pro Solar, i came from a Coros Pace 2 and i use the watch all day, the F7 series here in Brazil is still very expensive and i needed something resistant, so i opted for the F6x which proved to be a great choice for my needs.

I upgraded from 6X to 7X solar and I really loved the multiband-GPS. When there are trees, buildings and obstacles for GPS signal the pace is not incrased incorrectly. The touch screen is nice, the flashlight is amazing. The stamina feature I don't use much. Solar charging doen't make much difference. Battery lasts forever and latest addicions from beta builds like Training Recover 2.0 are very good.

The fenix 7 was released days after i bought my fenix 6x sapphire, i watched a lot of yt videos of it and weighed and compared the features while the fenix 6x is still in the return window, i decided to get the 7x, i have no regrets of the unscratchable sapphire with solar charging, the touch screen that is so convenient, the sensors that is updated and improved and the black titanium case with dlc coating are worth the upgrade.. i almost forgot the addition of LED light.. its so useful...hiking, working, and riding mtb is more fun with garmin

Thanks for this comparison. I bought the Fenix 6x pro a year ago, and from the first use, I knew it was the GPS watch for me. I am not impressed with the new features on the 7. Although I do think that a touch-screen would enhance the use of panning on the map, I find the buttons to be more robust in use for everything else on the watch. I also think there is just a bit too much hype about the sapphire/solar features. If you have not broken a crystal on a watch in your lifetime due to your activities, the chances are that you will not be needing sapphire glass any time soon. It is not like the solar is a replacement for needing to connect the watch to a charging station, so as you put it "do you really want to pay the increased price for a GPS watch"?
@ChaseTheSummit2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing. I think there's a bit more to it than simply improved GPS. You're also getting the touch screen, longer battery life, a better heart rate sensor, and of course all of the internal software updates. @@ChaseTheSummit well you’re getting *slightly* improved battery life, HR sensor, and GPS + touchscreen for $400-500 more (compared to a Fenix 6 on big sale), whether that’s worth it varies for everyone, but one can argue they are marginal improvements

LOVE your videos! thanks! Upgraded from 6X to 7X saphire solar. NO REGRETS. if you own a 6 series and if you see this comment, I know that feeling, hesitation and temptation. I was there for straight 5 days! just do it !!! if you are not sure, just take a trip to a shop where they sell 7 series and you feel the new 7 and only you can kill that hesitation. the touchscreen is AWESOME!!!! all 7 series are in titanium and lighter! the sensor is fantastic! the GPS is WAY BETTER than 6 (the GPS signals just appears in less than a half second right after I start an activity where in X I was sometimes waiting for 1 or 2 minutes even!). THE DESIGN is ALOT BETTER.. itś less bulky.. its more flat, more elegant (my wife hated 6X at my hand, she really liked this 7X). I also changed the band to ultra light nylon band which makes the watch overall 20 grams lighter! The Stamina function is the only one I am struggling to benefit from... I am not a long runner, in fact I started running 1 year ago, so I am quite beginner, I can run 3 KM under 5:50 pace. so around the end of 3rd KM, I expect my stamina progress bar shows 20%-ish where it shows 80% which makes NO SENSE.. it basically says I can still run where it´s wrong! i don´t have enough breath and enough oxygen in my muscles! so I am done... I still need to understand this feature better!

I just brought my first sports watch a 6X solar second hand for AU $650, they are $1650 still in the shops here. It'll arrive next week. Having used a Garmin GPS64 hand held GPS for years, my biggest problem was the lack of a touch screen. Navigating around the maps is just plain painful and really off putting. It is what it is and I appreciate the reason why it is so but it's high time we move on and forget non touch screens for ever. I had a FR 935, moved up to a 6 Pro (no solar) mainly because of battery, 6 data fields, music and looks. Sometimes the weight disturbs me, most often not. Considering the price of the 7 and Epix, I can't convince myself buying one, even if I would love to have an Epix. But if an FR with stamina, touchscreen, configuration via phone, and LTE (and solar?) will come out, I could get weak. I think I would sacrifice the Epix display for weight and price. I would be surprised if it had an AMOLED display.

Another great video!! I have been on the fence between the 6 and the 7. For the life of me, I cannot understand why Garmin only has one color option with the base Fenix 7 and that is stainless silver. To get black/carbon, you have to get either the solar or sapphire solar model. I don't want anything solar as I find it unnecessary and I don't like the display from what I've seen in person. The 7 solar displays seem muted and a bit dim in indoor light compared to the 6. I also don't like the silver color on the base...it's way too flashy. What to do! I have found the 6 sapphire on sale for $550 which is a very tempting price. I don't really need maps and the touchscreen. I just wish Garmin would have made the entry point into the 7 more logical and had more color options between all the models.

So I tried the Fenix 6 and took the leap and went to the Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar. I came from the Suunto Core before that. The biggest reasons for me was the multi-band GPS and improved battery life. I don't find visibility of the screen to be an issue and the solar band, etc. doesn't bother me. I bring a Goal Zero power supply and solar panel in my duffel as power is not reliably available and Wifi is hit or miss depending on where I am. Then we enter a gray area with some of the other features of either of the Fenix models and that has to do with sleep, HR, pulse ox, etc.. I wear a Whoop 4.0 as well. The Garmin's are notoriously bad with accurately measuring sleep (I find the sensor on the 7X is better). The Quantified Scientist on KZfaq is a good resource for this. He is a scientist that specializes in biomechanical data analysis and has done reviews on a wide variety of watches/straps. Having said that, I really like the body battery on the Fenix and it gives me insights that the Whoop doesn't. I am collecting data between the two devices but am almost certain that I will stay with using both to give me an overall view of how I am doing. Go figure right? No such thing still as one solution. Another side reason for the Fenix is that the Whoop strap needs BOTH Bluetooth and Wifi to update data in the app. The strap is only capable on storing 3 days worth of data before it starts overwriting. So if you are out in the boonies for an extended period you are going to lose data. So having the data on the Fenix is better than nothing at all. My two cents, really like the Fenix. Put me in the ex-military column. Love the reviews. Keep up the great work!

I just pulled the trigger on a Fenix 7S Saphire Solar. I am sure it will make me better, stronger, faster. 😉 Really pleased with it overall, albeit much poorer and overwhelmed with all the features and settings. The visibility issue is one I struggle with most and so keep fiddling with the backlight settings. Settled on a white watch face, which helps. But overall, it may not be a problem keeping the backlight on Gesture mode (although it does seem too sensitive at times) since it has a good battery life compared to my Galaxy Watch Active 2. As a Garmin newbie, I would love it if you had some videos focused on doing specific tasks with these watches or how to type stuff that you learned. Maybe a "did you know you could..." series or "what features have helped me" and then show how to do it. Garmin's help is very non-visual. Thanks again.

Thnx for comparision. In my country Croatia, Garmin Fenix 7x solar is 894 Euro and Fenix 6X pro is 525 Euro. Not worth that money, better wait a while for Fenix 7x prices to drop after a year. I had a Fenix 3Hr for four years, now I am using a 6X Pro and do not plan to switch to 7 for the next two / three years.

Still on the Fenix 6X Pro. The only feature that the 7 has that appeals to me is the touch screen. While use the map the touch screen is for sure a big plus. And the flash light is an interesting feature too. I'm not impressed by the solar feature as it impact on battery life overall is too small. I life in a part part of the world where the sun doesn't shine very much. Curious to see what the Fenix 8 will bring but for now my Fenix 6 isn't leaving me.

I upgraded from fenix 3 sapphire to fenix 6 sapphire, I always upgrade when there is a new model coming, bought my fenix 6 in December 2021 for half the original price, $540, did the same thing when I bought my fenix 3, in 3 or maby 4 years it is time to upgrade again and I'm probably buy right before a new model comes out.

I'm planning to use the watch for watersports. Is the touchscreen on the 7 a problem in the water? I know Apple watches can be locked to not react to water droplets, but I had an old Samsung that would freak out with water droplets. Will the buttons work on the 7 if the screen is locked to not react to water?

I use a 6x pro solar and I really like it. It is very durable and that is a good thing as I am a very uncoordinated and bump into things a lot especially getting up early in the morning. I love how they are waterproof and heavy-duty. I would like the 7x purely for the fact that it has a flashlight on the side which i would get a lot of use out of but then again my phone has a flashlight on it as well so I suppose it doesn't really matter? Also the touch screen would be handy as well but I can make do with the buttons just takes me a bit longer than it would with a touch screen.

Bought the forerunner 945 two months before the 945 LTE came out with heart rate sensors. I'm perfectly happy with my light weight watch but always interested in New technology. as someone who is not a professional does the small differences in heart rate accuracy really matter that much? I use the heart rate zones in some training and it have been working perfectly for me. Fellow forerunner users what would get you to / whate made you upgrade to one of the newer watches?
@ChaseTheSummit2 жыл бұрын
The 945 is a fantastic watch. The improved HR sensor only matters if you have issues with the older sensor. Have you tried comparing it to an external sensor? It's hard to say if you'd see an improvement because optical sensors have so many variabilities from person to person.

I think I've watched all your videos, and you are a legend! :D I'm quite on a budget as a beginner and having a wife not really keen on spending money on fresh hobby crushes of mine lasting for few weeks or months. :) As I could buy a 6s pro for 435 USD, with all the features available 2 years ago while 7s with current features is around 600 USD in my country, I kind of feel that 6s Pro is more than enough and i try not to think about having an "outdated" new watch in the next few years. I really hope Garmin will deliver some updates for 6 series at least in the near future.
@ChaseTheSummit2 жыл бұрын
The nice thing about Garmin is that they never obsolete a product. The Fenix 6s will connect/pair/sync with Garmin Connect for the foreseeable future. As an example I have a Garmin Fenix 1 from 2010 that still works and still syncs with Garmin Connect. That watch is 12 years old! The only thing you need to accept is that you won't get NEW features. But that doesn't make the Fenix 6 any less awesome. Hope that helps!

GPS on the 6 improves astronomically if you wear it on the inside of your wrist. There is a world of difference.

Great video, having gone from a 6X Sapphire to a 7X Sapphire, I agree with all your points. One other thing worth mentioning, is the 7 sapphire models are only available with a titanium bezel now. Previously they were a stainless bezel. This could be good or bad, depending on what you want - the stainless DLC was (I believe) significantly more durable than titanium. But of course, titanium is lighter. Personally I wanted a Stainless Sapphire 7X, like my 6X was, but it wasn't an option and I feel like the move to titanium was actually a downgrade for me.
@ChaseTheSummit2 жыл бұрын
Good point! Thanks for sharing.
@clitaiulian44972 жыл бұрын
Problem is that Garmin is using grade 2 titanium which is very soft and hence very prone to scratches. For example Coros is using grade 5 titanium which is much tougher and almost immune to being scratched.

Thank you for the detailed review. I'm a 6x sapphire user for the last 2 years, and I'm considering upgrading to the 7x sapphire. my main reason is the touch screen. over the course of 2 years I've noticed that I'm back light button on my 6x is squishy. it feels very different from the other buttons as well as different from when I first got it. touch screen addition mean I will be less likely to have a button failure (which I'm very concerned with on my 6x).
@ChaseTheSummit2 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I've heard of the buttons wearing in over time but failure is pretty rare... I think!
@josephseebart84882 жыл бұрын
@@ChaseTheSummit I thought the same. It's weird because I really don't use the backlight button. It's probably just wearing out but I still fear failure.

That flashlight though… around camping, the car or as a running backup for when you run a bit longer and come a bit after dark. That light has got me thinking. The usability of the touch screen is a plus, specially for using maps, but the solar is certainly improving a lot for the next series and we might get ‘forever power’ with the Fenix 8, so it does make a case for waiting. That flashlight though…

Thanks a lot for all these Informations. I am still not 100 % sure if i want to buy the Fenix 6 X Pro or the 7 s solar (those arecurrently the only availible versions), but i think i will buy the 7 s solar because of the touch display. if the watches are lasting 10 Years or more , im pretty sure, i would be mad about not having a Touchsrceen in the Year 2032.

Great stuff! How is the Fenix 7 on the treadmill? I have the forerunner 945 and Fenix 6x and felt as if the 945 was more accurate. Also, I’m curious to hear what you think about the real time stamina feature of the Fenix 7. Thank you, man!
@ChaseTheSummit2 жыл бұрын
Fenix 7 is similar to the older Fenix 6 and 945 on the treadmill. If you calibrate occasionally it's pretty accurate. The new Stamina tracking is pretty neat but I'm still trying to understand what the use case is for it. Stay tuned for lots of follow up videos!
@boombeef2 жыл бұрын
Possibly the 6x is shifting around on your wrist due to weight, size and sweat being just enough to lead to worse contact and accuracy for sensor? I am assuming the hardware sensors are the same in Forerunner 945. I could be wrong.
@francisdayon2 жыл бұрын
I wear mine all the time and as watches are accesories, you will want the better looking device on your wrist. It is also an expression of your personality. People spend more money on a watch that only tell you the time of day just to look good. I feel I look better wearing my Fenix 7 than some people waring $3,000-$5,000 watches. Most of the time nobody ever can tell how much those are worth anyway!

Fenix 6 owner and happy with it, but I don’t know why anyone would want the fenix 7 vs the Epix 2? That amoled display kills the 7 in my opinion.
@ChaseTheSummit2 жыл бұрын
It's a personal preference. Some people like the transflective display because it's lower profile (less noticeable), less distracting, and of course more readable in suuuuuper bright sunlight. It also provides more battery life and the ability to have Solar charging.
