Chasing Summer Steelhead on the FLY ROD! (Noob Spey Caster Learning!)

3 жыл бұрынI've been meaning to get out and learn how to cast this Switch Rod more lately and I finally had a couple hours on the water to do so! I really need to practice way more. Need to ONLY TAKE THE FLY ROD more often. :)
Either way, was a great day on the water and I definitely want to get some more fly-fishing days in soon.

Nice! I've barely put it through its paces, but I like the feel of it for sure. What do you fish for with it? 6wt standard rod is pretty light for salmon and steelhead from my limited knowledge!

Slow and steady set your anchor look around find your target and fire away. Good casting however and nice little trout to go with it!!! Keep it up bud

Hey man, a fish caught is a successful trip! And just btw, it doesn't look like you don't know what you're doing with that fly rod! I mean multiple types of casts and fly placement? Pshh. That trout def thought it wasn't too bad;) And bro, I'm using GoPro hero 5's now. I only use my 7 when I need a stabilized shot for whatever reason. For everything else, it's the 5 for me. Still waterproof, same batteries, more battery life I feel like too. And doesn't glitch up or freeze like the 7 Great video!

Ha I know the basics... When you watch the pros cast, it's crazy. Gotta get more practice! :) It was a nice trout, though. Dude I saw the 9s are out... hard to justify with the bad taste that this 7 has left in my mouth. I'm biding my time until the holidays to see what kind of deals are out there!

Always remember the 180 degree rule you had some good casts there. Use the bottom hand and stop abruptly and if you get tired and are working really hard you are doing it wrong.

I just picked up a fly rod again! It's been about 10 years since I wet the fly, but it's so fun. And catching fish on a fly rod is pretty epic! Will you be targeting winter steel on the fly?

Nice! What size fly rod? Are you gonna target salmon and steelhead, too? And hell yeah I want to target some nice winters! Though I expect I'll have a very tough time getting one on my first season attempting. :) Still a fun way to fish.

@@FishandForage It's a 7/8 wt sougayilang (or however it's spelled 😂) combo off Amazon. I've never caught anything bigger than a panfish on a fly, so landing a steelhead or salmon would be insane! And 100% agree using a fly rod feels so zen and pure. Love it!

Most of my videos are in the SW WA area or coastal Oregon. Some exceptions, though!

If you enjoy reading about fishing may I suggest books written by Roderick Haig-Brown. He was an ardent steelhead fly fisherman. His books are excellent, IMHO.

@@FishandForage The one title that comes to mind is "Fisherman's Spring". He may written others that had a season in the title. I hope you enjoy his writing.

@@FishandForage Update...I just Googled the title I previously mentioned and found there is a preview of the book online. It shows 45 pages...enough to get a sense of his writing style. I see that his books are pricey to buy!
