Google wants people to stop taking advice from random people with no experience on the internet on a topic and start taking advice from an ai trained on the advice of random people on the internet.

He and Ricky really need to give the whole Biden sucks and America is just as bad as China speil a fkin rest. No Democratic candidate has been perfect or even great, but compared to anything the Republican party has put forth in the past 50 years, yeah... yeah they are. And no I don't want the Chinese govt footing the bill for crappy Chinese EVs, purposefully built at a loss, with the intention of putting foreign companies out of business and my neighbors out of a job. China is one of the most globally despised countries for LEGITIMATE reasons. If you're gonna cheat and steal, you should pay a price for it, and we've let China get away with it for a long time and way too much time to get their act together. They did this to themselves. Thank you, President Biden.

My wife is a prof who has been trying to figure out how to notice how ai generates essays, and the patterns are actually pretty easy to pick up since so much of it sounds the same. We are not prepared for these shit AI tools. I've been seeing a lot of teachers from both primary and secondary institutions failing to comprehend how these tools work, and at worst their ignorance is victimizing students who otherwise may just be poor writers. This failure to properly assess what work is AI driven boils down to academic institutions' stigmatizing ai, which is preventing teachers from meaningfully investigating the tools being used.
@nayadri
@nayadri 16 күн бұрын
@@SleepyMatt-zzzNot to doubt your wife's competency in detecting AI but I hope she still approach that task with complete humility and reasonable doubt, though the description of it being actually pretty easy doesn't reassure me. Unless there is a clear sign (AI legal disclaimer not edited out and other clear tells) it is still at best a "vibe check". In fact, along with said AI disclaimers, I would put more weight on formatting inconsistencies and other file mishandling evidence - but most teachers don't have enough if any digital forensics skills, and some evidence, especially the easiest to spot, can be countered by more competent students. I've no doubt though, that if countering AI plagiarism was to be taken seriously, it would be through the use of online repositories with histories (regularly pushing your docs through some github-like repositories during the entire assignment instead of exporting and submitting a pdf last minute), not speech analysis. Even well educated, I would not place speech pattern analysis much higher than your average "body language" or lie detection. Those specialists might have insight if observing a single individual over dozens and dozens of hours, and give that insight as a nuanced analysis, but any expert declaring an ability to give a yes/no black/white lie/truth red/green AI/not AI answer on limited observation is a fraud doing pseudoscience. With AI poisoning news and other written sources, some element of AI speech is bound to make its way into actual human written speech, making the ability to discern even more difficult. Younger students are especially more sensitive to language changes from trends. Another issue is the inherent code switching in academia. In lower grades especially, students might still struggle switching between normal everyday speech (and their own personal code(s) depending on their backgrounds) and "essay speech" which is unnatural ("professional") by demand. Back in my time the worst that could happen was being told off for being too familiar or not enough. Now some of that code check can result in losing your entire career before it's even started, leaving you with a mountain of loans you'll only have a McDonald wage to repay for the rest of your life. All at the call of, possibly and ironically, an actual AI.

@@Luc-Ferr it's an essay. That almost completely defeats the purpose of the AI doing the heavy lifting. I'm sure it can be worked around. I have some imagination, so I'll lend mine for an example... I'll bet you anything someone is going to make a browser extension that works around this and communicates with the ChatGPT api directly and types in the response in Google Docs in a convincingly "human" way while also editing out starting phrases like "certainly!" or other phrases like "as a large language model" I'm sure it's doable. This is going to keep happening. It's a stupid game of cat and mouse, when we really just need AI regulations to happen right now, and fast. And they won't, and I know that, because if they did get regulated, freaking Google and Microsoft wouldn't be touching this crap with a 10-foot pole, because they have the luxury to know long before the public what the government intends to do, and they're putting ALL their eggs in the AI basket. It's beyond infuriating, and it feels hopeless.

Nah, these systems are pretty useful if you do have a usecase for them, for example im a Programmer and Technical artist. AI tooling is great at helping simplify repetitive tasks and even template some code and object structures. Art wise its nice to easily and quickly be able to consider poses, perspectives and color palettes as well as different character designs. Its also just generally great for spitballing, for example coming up with character ideas for games, just explaining the concept and getting potential ideas for those characters. Transcription is another thing thats such a timesaver, just being able to throw in an image and have it transcribe the text in proper formatting is massive, since i can even have it structure t as a JSON object based on the image.

Plus my wife died a month ago and I can totally see it being a reality in the future like that black mirror episode. Well, their business model is to make a copy of things westerners are already buying, but at a fraction of the price. So, if something was as bad as a Tesla, it would depend how much I paid for it. If I bought a car for 50k that lasted 20 years with no problems, then that would be good. A car that costs 100k with constant problems is obviously bad(Tesla)... But then a car that costs 15k with the same problems, could very well still be worth it . Yes there are problems and hassle, but if I ended up spending less than 50k in 20 years or whatever, then it's still a good buy. That also probably includes multiple cars, so you get a new car every few years, and most of the initial problems end up ironed out over the generations. It's the same with buying phones from China, lots of Chinese brands are on a par with Samsung or Sony now , after generations of ironing out there kinks, and a 5th of the price or less for the reality good ones.

China makes cheap cars by the government majorly subsidizing them, much lighter worker protections, and most cars being lower quality that can catch fire more easily. Us car manufacturers will only be able to compete if we get rid of all regulations on the cars and pay workers a dollar an hour.

It's not that Tesla, and certainly not Cybertruck, is particularly good cars. It's just that Chinese "quality" somehow manage to be that much worse. US good, US bad. Whatever. Just don't promote Chinese as being superior. Note that I'm against 100% tariffs, but for entirely different reasons: We (as in, the "left") critiqued Donaldo Trumpolini for starting a trade war with China, and now Biden is doubling down on it? By all means, ban Chinese cars, but do it for legit reasons; failing to meet safety and design standards. Oh, and do the same for Elron Musk and his Teslanos.

Sadly there have also been a couple of incidents with people trapped inside locked teslas, even when first responders are there they were unable to get them out due to the door handles sitting flush with the car when driving and need electricity to pop out. For rear passengers I think that the manual override to the doors when power is cut is either some small wire hidden in the doors or under the passenger seat, or they suggest going through the rear seat by finding another hidden release and then using the release for the trunk... not exactly ideal when you are wondering why nobody outside won't just open the door? great design choices all round.

If Google can get their AI really good at spam/scam detection, and even at preventing receiving A BUNCH of AI-generated spam calls everyday before they ring my phone, they will have done the public an nigh-immeasurable service. And for as much as I hate the CT, stop spitting on it, tagging it, and shunning an owner out of your town.

Simpsons did it... Well more specifically Futurama when Fry dates a Lucy Liu Bot.

While I disagree with tariffs overall, I think the Chinese EV tariffs are justified. That's because the Chinese Government directly subsidizes their EV companies so they can sell them cheaper overseas, which creates an unfair advantage, distorts the free market and would ultimately shut down foreign competition if their governments don't respond. Would definitely be nice if the tariff money went towards fixing climate change though

The US government does that as well, it's what capitalism is all about.

The tariffs are needed because the Chinese government is giving major subsidies to the car companies to make the cars cheaper. That way they can flood the market. Destroy the competition and then raise prices. The U.S. govt should just give tons of money to our automakers to make cars cheaper. But we would get upset about our taxes going to them.

@@ghostpenguins3 in my opinion, not enough to lower the prices to an affordable level where the majority of people are changing to EV.

@@SportingJapan it's less an issue of prices and more one of wages, prices never fall unless they are specifically forced to by internal regulation. As demonstrated by the current "inflation."
