I wish I could wear my natural hair out, but my mom says that it looks like I need to run a comb through it, even when I do wash and go's. I moisturize it and have spent a year working on what works and doesn't work on my hair, so it hurts to hear that. I've communicated that with my mom, but she implies that only certain textures should wear their hair out. She always says that I should only wear it out when it's in a twist out or braid out :( My stepfather makes fun of my hair as well. How can I learn to love my hair when it's out or wear it out when I live in a household that's constantly putting me down for my natural hair?
@kimdastorytellr

Nylah Green well you have to keep in mind that this new natural hair movement is generational. They won’t understand & are already old & grown & stuck in their ways so it’s really nothing personal. As long as your hair is HEALTHY don’t worry about the texture/ curl pattern bc guess what our natural hair can do wonders. You can switch it up with twist outs, braid outs, wash n go, weaves, braids etc. Never let other people’s negative opinions of you become your reality. Blessings

I have heard all under the book, you don't have good hair, your hair is nappy, going natural is for people with good hair, etc....all from my mother when i first went natural and sometimes even now if she don't like the stylen i did.

@sheilaorangd1967
@sheilaorangd1967 5 жыл бұрын
Do you mean they had shedding not breakage cuz shedding and breakage is two different things shedding you're going to shed at least they say 50 years a day if you are natural girl and you have a protective style then you may not have as much shedding because I do my hair maybe once every 10 days and I don't have as much as shedding as I used to I don't wear tight hairdos I don't wear my hair up like a ubangi and I make sure that I oil condition and do everything that I need to do to keep my hair from shedding breakage is when the hair breaks off and in in like you break spaghetti but shedding is natural and I don't like your your title because I don't think that no black woman I have ugly hair unless she really doesn't take care of it so you know change of pictorial because I'm more for positivity and black women with African African hair I don't care whether it's three a B for a b or c whatever it maybe learn how to protect learn how to manage and not walk around looking like a ubangi talkin about the Ugly Truth our hair is beautiful just learn about it and how to tame it there's a KZfaqr she talks about here and a very positive way and she has hair down to her bum so I thought at one time that I could not grow my hair past my shoulders I was wrong I just started listening to KZfaqrs with good sense positive women and not saying you can grow your hair 4 inches or 5 inches overnight cuz I know that's not true it takes time

My number 1 advice to you is to listen to what your hair/scalp is telling you. When I started my journey 6 years ago I was listening to the hair gurus and did everything they said. If more than 3 said something I would listen because they had healthy long hair. The pieces of advice that I took was not to comb my hair, don't shampoo, don't use oil, always pre-shampoo, and to use leave-in conditioners. Those advice were not for me. Because I was not oiling my scalp, it was always itchy, and I had a lot of flakes. Because I was not shampooing and I was using a lot of heavy products, I had a lot of residues. Now I'm back to doing what my mother used to do for me, just with better products. My hair is mid-back when it's straight and I'm loving it.
@cece0277

Ok I’m gonna keep trying, I’m not giving up on my natural hair, gonna do what my hair likes. For me to ensure my hair is growing I would have to start documenting and taking pictures of my length to make sure the products are working.

And simply just watch it grow... No chunky products which are too much... I stay in the tropics and these are secrets I do on my hair and it grows like crazy. Don't tell no one.... 😂 .. Two, moisturising is key just find your niche Three, avoid tight hairstyles Lastly, as she says be patient.... God bless you

No it doesn't take anything but taking care of your hair that's all putting the right foods and liquids in your body and yes it's a lie because some people grow 2 inches of hair every month so stop it everybody is an individual and I think that you need to not base it on you but base it on other KZfaqrs that have did the big chop and hair has grown back as they say within 3 stop it sometime we do have to cut out here to make all here even so it can grow cuddle the split ends make sure you comb through your hair at least every 2 months to make sure you don't have a shedding problem and most of all moisturize condition weather right headgear don't wear any barrettes or rubber bands that will cut your hair and be positive if you listen to this you'll never grow any hair so make your own positive understanding about your hair listen to all this because you may get a good note cuz that's how I grew my hair I listen to everybody or what they had to say and I did that and nobody gave me any bad you know understanding about hair I took a little bit from here in a little bit from there

Great message! Loving your hair is #1. So many naturals are destroying their hair or driving themselves insane trying to force it to be something it is not. Hey I wanted to say thank you so much for this motivational video. It waa exactly what I needed to hear in order to not allow frustration to creep in. I truly love my hair, and I've been experimenting with 2 strand twists for the past month, and it starts off with such pretty curls, and as soon I hit the Los Angeles atmosphere, within an hour, the curls are almost nonexistant, which has been causing me frustration and contemplation of going back to a relaxer... Deep down, I know I don't want to do that...anyway I apologize this is so long, but my point is that I was stuck mentally trying to get the same beautiful twists my sister has, but when u said love your hair the way it comes out, and stop hoping to make it look like someone else's... that REALLY seeped into my spirit. Gurl! You betta lay on all that truth! I love how you broke down the importance of loving OUR own hair for who SHE is! (Clappin out my love for you spillin the truth about products, in general, can be harmful to some degree - hello chemicals!) And about that breakage - Alright Sis! Side note: all the shout outs to Naptural85! Respect! I have followed her since I went natural and I guess you and I have been on this journey around the same time. 4.5yrs!

I agree with water not always moisturising! I don’t overspray my hair with water simply because it shrinks my hair completely and it makes it harder to work with interms of de tangling. I like to work with my hair when it’s semi straight from twists or flat twists so I only dampen my hair most of the times, but I honestly don’t see the need of consistently spraying hair especially at night, because it just ends up dry. I mainly focus on getting my coconut and shea butter in, and I have way less breakage. I also focus more on moisturising my ends and pay more attention on handling the ends carefully by trimming split ends regularly.

I've never heard anyone advice naturals to detangle when it isnt wet. When I started detangling with water and conditioner I noticed I lost less hair on wash day. But what do I know 🤷🏾‍♀️
@Chazzzisawesome
@Chazzzisawesome 5 жыл бұрын
What you should know is to do what works for you....I learned that tip (detangling while dry) while working with a company whose scientist specialized in natural hair health.
@LilMizzLae
@LilMizzLae 5 жыл бұрын
I was just thinking how my hair seems to break off much less when I detangle under running water in the shower. It COULD be that it SEEMS like less hair because wet shed hair is more compact while dry shed hair is usually fluffy looking. But yeah. Who really knows. All we can do is do what's best for our own hair like Chaz says
@madgirl4eva1
@madgirl4eva1 5 жыл бұрын
I think it also depends on the amount of water used to detangle and the porosity of your hair. For someone like me with low porosity hair, using medium/low shower pressure with warm to cool water to detangle works great. My hair never gets soaking wet but damp enough for me to comb through. Someone with high porosity hair might not have the same results tho.
@politereminder6284
@politereminder6284 5 жыл бұрын
@@madgirl4eva1 I have super high porosity hair. My hair detangles best when wet or damp. I tried dry detangling on the advice of a person I admire and it was disastrous. Everybody should do what works for them individually outside of all of the theory.
@madgirl4eva1
@madgirl4eva1 5 жыл бұрын
@@politereminder6284 I completely agree with you, it's definitely up to the person. Science still has a long way to go and any good scientist will tell you that no theory is ever true or 100% fact. What's important is that women continue to learn about their own hair and what works. I like to theorize and experiment with my own hair so that's why I made the comment. I hope I didn't offend you though.
