After having a similar mat system in my garage I went back to bare floor. Much easier to keep clean, no dirt build up under the mat, no stains or drips creeping underneath when you spill something, no lost fasteners, zero concern about using a floor jack or stands, I can use my creeper again. Sure, it's not as pretty but I really don't care when the mats made it less functional.

Pros and Cons just depends on what you are using but for. If I was working on my cars and doing fluid changes I would most likely run an epoxy floor or something like that. Since we are just storing cars here Inlike that the floor is always clean and rain drainage puddles stay underneath. You can blow them out pretty easy with a leaf blower though.

@@billm1651 Vevor tiles are 12 x 12 x .6 and different in design and structure. These tiles are 16 x 16 x .75 in size and the ribbons are different. These are just much stronger. If you look at Vevor listings they never mention garage just that they are drainage tiles meant for bathrooms, etc. they were not designed for the abuse a garage floor can have does not mean they won’t work though. I looked at them when researching and they just didn’t have the durability I was looking for. Plus they look much different when laid in a pattern as it’s a different type of design. Vevor tiles also only have two click points when these have 6 making them more secure.

You never see the dirt and debris it hides underneath. Always clean unless you have so much dirt it starts coming out the top, but you can also blow out the dirt while it’s on the floor as it has channels for the air to flow down. You take them out once or twice a year and blow out the dirt. Maybe a quick wash if needs as it’s plastic so doesn’t stain. That would help. I think changing tires and things like that will be fine. I did not test jack stands which tend to have a smaller more blunt footprint. The swisstrax brand can hold 60k pounds rolling weight and hold up to 2500 PSI. You can put a lift on them. These for sure won’t be able to do that and they don’t state the numbers to know the Limitations. You get what you pay for, but this is more than enough for me.

Only problem is if you turn full lock and try to turn on them and not doing it slow. Also positive traction cars doing full turns can have issues. The thicker tile will help and having it locked into place food. I have not tried to know just like half turns to maneuver a car to a better position. My garage wash bay has vinyl sheets on the walls and ceiling to stop water damage and mold. Main reason for these is the looks, floor is always clean, it’s always dry and slip resistant. This looks like the first viable knockoff I've seen (most are far thinner and cheaper looking). I have one big question though (and I suspect I may know the answer)...how is the slip resistance when wet/soapy/snowy? Slip resistance was a big selling point for me with the Swisstrax over competitors like Racedeck. They have a friction modifier blended into the plastic that provides a ton of grip to shoes in wet conditions.

Mine are only 1/4 gap at most. It needs to be pretty tight as this is a moving piece especially if hit with any speed or tire spin it can do some crazy things especially backing in as the tire is rotating the opposite direction. How slick the floor underneath is as well can contribute to the sliding.

You can blow them out with a leaf blower or wash them out if you have good drainage. Plenty of air channels underneath for the dirt to get out. Once or twice a year you can take out huge sections easily and do a full clean out and see the dirt level so you’ll know how to handle the next time.

"Seems like it would be a pain in the ass." That's what I was thinking. They'd be wiling to devote the time and effort to keeping it clean.
@CarsWithKeav
@CarsWithKeav 22 күн бұрын
Does not take me any longer to clean than before. The crisscross is only on the top there are channels underneath specifically designed to allow your leaf blower to blow the dirt out and the same channels allow liquids to drain without blocking them. I take up once a year for a deep clean and you can take these out in huge sections no need to take up every tile. Biggest reason I get these is the floor you are walking on is always clean. Even before I rarely cleaned my garage floor it was always dirty. You can vacuum as well and you can pop a single tile to clean a spill if you need to. Knowing if you have a bug problem would be the big drawback, but I’m up on my insecticide applications pretty regular and don’t have those issues. I’ve had the swisstrax in my wash bay for two years now and it was well worth it.
@CarsWithKeav

No extra effort to clean at all takes the same amount of time to leaf blow these as I did before. Channels under the tiles are built to allow airflow to clean out and allow liquids to drain. There are an annoying amount of manufacturers and similar products but the quality ones have no top side injection molding divots (super annoying when your floor is laid out) and are typically 630+ grams per tile (for 16x16 anyhow). You can use the Swisstrax 3d designer to layout what you want your garage to look like, and it gives you the exact amount of tiles you'll need (free)

Just quickly hopping forward to see the floor I noticed the edge row being cut. Never cut edges like he showed. By rotating the tile 180* and cutting VS flipping the tile upside down and cutting could potentially make your tile have gaps. If the wall isn’t square or parallel to the field tiles, your short side gap and long side gap between tile and wall will be cut reversed. Meaning the left side of the tile will be cut to fit the right side gap between the wall and field tile. Obviously the right side of the tile will be cut to fit inside the left side gap between the wall and field tiles. The tile might not fit properly. If you flip the tile upside down the short side of the gap and the side of tile cut shorter will be on the same side and fit correctly. The other issue I have with this flooring is it will trap everything. If using this to elevate you and the car during car cleaning, without drainage, will eventually cause a mold issue. It would be better to seal the floor professionally (with anti-skid) and buy a push squeegee. Worried about hot tire pick up? Wait a few minutes before pulling vehicle into garage. The floor looks nice and is easy to install.

For sure need drainage if you plan to wash. You should also take these up a few times a year to clean out as well. With regards to your Land Rover leaking. Pretty sure it's the steering gear. Years ago I had a range Rover and bought a seal kit and redid it and it blew out a couple days later... The problem is in the design for the high pressure Teflon seals on the worm gear. Even if you get them new they are inferior quality and will always go bad. I posted a solution for this on a Land Rover forum years ago and the guy that sold the parts I used couldn't understand why he was getting orders from all over the world 🤣. I don't remember the part number so if you're steering gear is leaking and you're reading this this is what you will need to do to permanently fix it... First, get yourself a low pressure seal kit cuz you're going to need that to finish it but you won't have to buy another one after that. Disassemble the steering gear. It's not as hard as you think and as far as special tools I ended up buying a plumbing nut that fit the access plug then put The nut in a vise and set the gear on top and turned it. Once you have a completely disassembled you'll see three high pressure Teflon seals that go into the boar. Take the bore and the worm gear with the seals on it to a hydraulic shop. I took mine to Caterpillar because they were close to where I worked. I'm sure you can go anywhere. They're going to need the measure The outside diameter for the bore as well as the inside diameter of your ring races. What we settled on to fix mine was a combination Teflon ring and o-ring. You remove the Teflon seals off the shaft, apply some automatic transmission fluid and slide your o-rings into each of the races. Then you slide the Teflon gears and pop them on top of the o-rings. The o-ring makes it squishy enough that you can get them into the bore and provides constant pressure against the Teflon ring. The setup is actually the same as what's inside of a hydraulic piston only the added benefit is yours don't move, they don't go up and down they just turn in place so they will last forever. Then you just reassemble and put your low pressure seals in and you won't have any more leaks. Added bonus and mind you this was back in 2006, The o-ring and Teflon seal only cost $0.50 a set. The low pressure seal kit cost $75. If you do this you will never have another leak from your steering gear. If you let Land Rover fix it It will leak again within a few months. I think they redesigned the steering gear box in 2012 so this will work on any of them from the '60s up to 2012 as it was the same POS leaking steering box in all of their s***.

Not sure what you mean by that can you explain? You mean run them to the drywall then put a trim on top that could be done, but too much was needing to be cut to get them to fit.

@@johnqcitizen9177 I see what your saying could work in the smaller section, but the back wall would be 12 inch wide trim.

Not sure what that means as it would be no more dirt than any flooring choice. Dirt just doesn’t magically float through the air and attract to it. 🤣 It just lays below and you can leaf blow it out like any other floor. Now most just ignore it and it builds up and once a year you take them out and clean. More than worth it either way to me. Not for everybody though.

Not true they come up as easy as they go down. Plus a shop vac can suck through the slats. Believe me I’ve used these in many garages.

@@CarsWithKeav but can you pull up just one tile? Looks like you’d have pull up a whole section from the wall. If you have anything else in the garage that would need to get moved. Seems like a huge pain even if it is easy.

@@bighammer3464Yep you can pop up a single tile. Just have to lift the adjacent ones that overlap and pop the tile out. Not a big deal. You can also pop up sections and drag them out periodically to do a deep clean if you want.

You could also... I don't know... maybe use a pressure washer.

There is a good thing about that at least they won’t be puncturing a tire if you lose them. 🤣 it has to be a pretty small screw I have yet to have one fall through. Finishing nails is another story, but you can pop a tile up pretty quick to get them.

This seems like a completely useless idea and waste of money. Dirt and debris collector that would also keep your creeper from rolling easily.
@CarsWithKeav
@CarsWithKeav Күн бұрын
Never plan to use a creeper so I’m good there. We all have our opinions and I respect yours, but I’ve been using these for years and I love them. They blow out with a leaf blower and the channels underneath are design to flow air and water which keeps the blow dirt from kicking up and just going straight out. Now some do put these down and never clean, but I blow them out once a week like I always have before the tiles.

What about turning your wheels on it when the car is sitting still? Did you have any problems with them moving?
@CarsWithKeav
@CarsWithKeav 2 күн бұрын
Have not had any problems and my side of the garage I come in at an angle toward the wall and cut back almost full lock to straighten out. RWD and FWD cars. Only issue I would see is if you had a car with a locked diff and pushed the gas a bit too much maybe that could spin a tile. Never tried it though. I know full race car facilities that use swisstrax and they turn cars like crazy to get them in lifts and into storage.
