a Boost gauge is a very quick and easy way to determine if you have an issue. Vcds or suitable Obd code reader will also show if your logging any issues and can also be used to check if sensors are working as they should be.

Great informative video. I used a 75mm PVC pipe cap, measures 80mm on the outside. Found a gross leak on a crankcase breather pipe. Thanks for your videos.

hey man, i've got an almost crazy modified '99 mk1 rebuild for the track, with the 225 of an s3 swapped in and K04 turbo on there. And to help me fix some of the problems with it your channel has been very helpful and i am so thankfull to you for showing us all on how to do things, and what to look for. the tt is a great car. and with your help we can all make it even better than it used to be.

@@TheParrottBros it's a light silver version, but i've hand wrapped the front to just under the mirrorso on the doors with matt black triangles, going from big on the hood. and a little smaller on the bumper to gradually become smaller to the edge under the mirrors. also changed the grill (for a bigger one), added a carbon front splitter and a bigger wing ontop of the normal drag style wing. the car is older than i am, but it's still the most fun car i've ever got to drive

Hi - is the breather pipe that runs from the bottom of the PRV Hockey Puck Valve the same size on the 180 and the 225 or does it differ like the turbo intake does? Thanks

great video .. 78 year old ex 1980 Donnington gt champion . my 2008 Citroen C5 2l hdi is suffering a lack of power . It starts and runs great ..BUT show it a hill / steep gradient and it falls flat .. with almost no performance . It will get to 3000 rpm eventually but has no get up and go .I have given the MAF sensor a good clean . ,There was some improvement . but the out and out umph is still lacking . A friendly local garage owner plugged in his diagnostic tool and a turbo or lack of expected turbo was diagnosed .. Great tip on the 20lbs inch pressure testing . Common sense really but nevertheless an invaluable tip.

Hi Dom. great video and inspired me to make my own pressure tester, not quite as fancy as yours (Mrs’ old moisturiser container). I also blocked the pipe going to the throttle body, no obvious leak but air is rushing out of the intake manifold (past the butterfly valve). Any ideas as I’m stumped. Thanks

The pcv system has pipes that attach to the inlet manifold so thats probably why buddy

hi Dom, great informative video. I will be doing this process very soon. I've got david to 3d print me off the TIP bung. But where did you get the hockey puck bung please?

You ideally want a 19mm bung and to cap the system off by taking the three way pipe off the rocker cover rather than doing what i did with the puck

i made my self a smoke machine a few years back was pretty good i might give this method a try. spray bottle with soapy water would also help find the air leak

Its the pipe that goes to the brake booster, usually its only listed as a vacuum pipe, had a quick look but could not find a part number, im sure they are not made anymore and you either have to source a replacement second hand of fix what you have. thanks Dom

May I ask what stops the air passing into the intake manifold and into the exhaust via valves depending on the position of the crank and camshaft ?

Hi, so i have a suspected a boost leak, followed your video with the air pressure test, and it does not hold pressure... cant hear any leaks apart from a bubbling sound coming from the engine... this was yesterday. so today i had delivered a cylinder pressure tester and it read 175 175 185 and 185 any idea where this bubble sound may be coming from lol ?

The bubbling sound is normal, my car also does the same but hard to pick up in the video, it should build up pressure so there might be a good possibilty you have a leak somewhere but its not easy to hear, are you using a compressor? if so maybe get a second person to operate it while you feel your way around the pipes and joints

Just take off from the turbo the boost side pipe. Dont use the intake manifold before the turbo, because is never pressurized and a old turbo will blow a lot of oil in your catalytic system (next to shaft)and you will smoking crazy and may shot your catalytic converter.

The air before the turbo is not pressurised but it's is measured by the MAF so you should be testing for leaks

@marcooconnor yes you are right but you blow lot of oil in the catalisator. Normal the turbo have pressure from the exhaust gas side and the air side at same time,so is will not leak. But when you blow 20psi only at one side,then slowly oil will go in the catalisator and it will be clogged.

Not 100% sure what your on about, replace the damage pipes with new ones or if its a hard plastic pipe and you cant get one then get a bit of rubber hose to slide over the damaged area

If you removed the oil cap instead you wouldn't need to do anything to the puk to protect the rocker cover, right?

Yes, but then all the air you pump in will just leak back out of there.

You can use soapy water in a spray bottle and it will bubble at the leak for a visual
