CHEAP and EASY DIY off-grid well house (for less than $500) with Goldenmate 12v LiFePo4 battery

This is how I made my house "off grid capable" for less than $500. To be clear, my entire house isn't solar powered, my goal here was just to get water from my well storage tank to my house in the case of a power outage. To be more clear, my well isn't off grid either. The well pump would draw too much power to go off grid without a massive setup. So basically this set up is just powering the booster pump which pumps water from my storage tank up to my house and give us water pressure in our home. In the event of a power outage long enough to deplete my 2500 gal tank, then I would just hook up a generator to my well pump to refill it. easy peasy. I think it is brilliant to have a self contained water system. As long as you have a big enough tank it should take care of you in 99% of the situations your find yourself in.

That's really a cool way to power and a great way to save power and cover when the grid isn't available. I think twice in the last six years at it current house have we lost power. But i do have a shed that would be fun to power.😊

Good stuff you Guys 👍some would say you’re only powering up for water, but you use a lot of on grid energy for that job alone,so yeah you’re on a winning streak for saving, you could save even more if you had a header tank near the house that way you’ll get gravity fed water and the pump will only come on when it needs to top up the header tank and should keep you fully charged all the time… Just a thought but hey, good job dude and congratulations on catching yourself some free energy … ✌️😎👍

I don't know anything about anything. Could you move the reservoir uphill from your house? Then you just pump it full whenever you happen to have solar power. When the electricity's out, all you'd need is gravity. This and your other solar powered shed videos were really cool!

Excellent project. I suspect the difference in power draw is that you were calculating on max draw, which would only be for the couple of seconds of spin up. Once the pump up and running, you would use the continuous draw for your math. Additionally, you were probably running the pump off of the solar panels during the daytime, rather than the battery, which would extend the battery life. Even with clouds, any light hitting the panel will generate some power. (Make sure to keep your panels clean. Dust will block a lot of light, too.) Yeah, sub-300W panels are getting cheap because people are buying the 400W+ panels these days. Dealers just want to move out the old inventory. Also, a lot of folks are upgrading their older 200s for higher wattage, so you can get used panels for cheaper. (With a typical lifetime of 40-50 years, getting 4-5 year old used panels for cheaper makes sense for small installs)

Thanks Dan - I haven't watched you much since I built my bass. I suggest you get a clamp on ammeter. Then you can calculate the power draw. I also truly wonder if this would work in a more Northern climate.

Can’t speak about northern climate, AZ is one of the best states for solar, I think most other states would need more batteries and panels to make this work.

NICE! If you were to double it, or perhaps even triple it, then you should be golden. Or maybe have more solar so on days when the sun stinks it can at least keep up.
