Perhaps the number one complaint among Kawasaki Versys owners is the uncomfortable forward slant of the seat. This cheap and easy Kawasaki Versys seat modification video covers how you can quickly and easily fix your versys seat with ten dollars worth of parts from Home Depot and ten minutes of your time.
You can easily raise your Kawasaki Versys seat to a more comfortable angle by adding some washers, spacers, longer bolts, and a small platform (a three-inch door hinge works perfectly) to the bracket at the front of the Versys seat. This video will walk you the process of completing this Versys seat mod and cover all the tools and materials you'll need to fix your seat quickly and easily, whether you ride a Versys 1000 or a Versys 650.
Tools you'll need:
10mm socket or wrench
Hacksaw (if you use a door hinge for a platform as I did)
Your Versys key
Parts:
1 3 inch door hinge (www.homedepot....)
2x 1.0x40mm Hex Bolt: ( www.homedepot....)
4x 3/16 x 1inch Fender Washer 3 pack (www.homedepot....)
2x 3/8 x 1inch Nylon Spacer (www.homedepot....)
Good luck!

Absolutely amazing!! I've ridden my 2022 Versys 650 for 700 miles and my least favorite part was the seat. I ended up using a piece of 12 gauge metal and drilling the 1/4 inch holes myself. Thanks so much for the tip, the bike is so much more comfortable!

After buying 2 new recovered stock seats attempting to solve this problem, I was still getting neutered by the forward slant. This works albeit not perfectly. Found I had to smack in place and yank it back out. But it's worth it to ride without getting my undercarriage getting ripped out. A piece of pipe insulation took care of the tank gap. Thanks Dork!

Nice vid. I got mine to work. I put the washers in different order and stuff to get it to fit with my 2018 so my advice is to not think too hard about it and do what works. I used a grinder with cutting wheel to make short work of the door hinge. This mod has absolutely done wonders for the pain I was having in my rear before, and my "boys" no longer get scrunched up

my 09 seat would very quickly numb my most private of areas and I would have to stand on pegs to regain feeling. I bought a corbin seat but it was hard as a rock, then I had an idea. I took the cover half off my oem seat and with a steak knive I cut a groove 8 in long 1.5.in wide and 1.5.in deep in center of seat front to back. wow what a difference, no more numb jewels . it is a free and great upgrade unlike my useless corbin seat

Hello, I just did this mod. to may 2009 Versys. So far I was only able to use 2 of the specified washers (on each side) with the rest of the above stated home depot hardware, in order to get my seat to fully lockdown. How many of the washers did you use on your mod. per side? Thanks for your feedback. 😊

Thanks for posting this. I just did this to my 2015 Versys 650LT. Took maybe 5 minutes following your instructions. The stacking sequence is key. Bought the parts today (9/20/21) at Home Depot for about $12. Everything was stainless. Clamped the hinge in a bench vise and cut the ears off with a Dremel. Haven’t ridden yet, but just sitting on the bike I can tell it’s going to stop the forward pressure. Thanks again!

It's like seats are an afterthought on bikes these days. Like I said in your other vids, just moving up to bigger or more expensive, does not equate to more comfort. You could have done the same thing on the 500F. It makes no sense to me that manufacturers seem to care more about looks, than how a seat actually functions in the real world. I think they know that most people won't spend a lot of time test riding before they purchase, so looks trump function and comfort. Most seats these days lock you in one position "versys" the old days when people understood that a flat and well padded seat gave you the option to change position and still be comfortable. If I were making bikes these days, the seat and riding position would be my main priority. But that does not sell bikes to noobs. Its all about looking cool now....

The 3" inch hinge I bought was too large and required heavy modification. I think the 2.5" was the right one. Either that or they had them mislabeled at the store where I bought them.

Now I am a total advocate of the Versys 650, so don’t get this wrong. I am 5’-7” & I love the fit of the bike, but I surely wouldn’t want the cockpit any smaller, bars back any further & foot pegs any higher. I am quite surprised when taller folks like it too. I would have guessed they would feel a bit cramped, especially for long tours such as all day. I suggest you not only sit on the Versys, but give it as long of a test ride as they will reasonably allow so you can really feel the geometry & ergo’s. Know that your jeans bunching up can be remedied by Dorks fine example here. OF COURSE I want you to buy a Versys, it’s a great bike, but most important, I want you to get the bike that feels best to you.

Aaron Clark If you feel the bike is a good fit, I think anyone would love it. It is a snappy, silky, smooth, great handling, ride & so completely versatile. Carve up the twisties, afternoon cruises, multiple day long tours on pavement OR gravel & handles a bit of off road fairly well. You can reasonably accessorize it to perfectly suit your riding style. If you have ever stopped somewhere & “wondered what’s down THAT road” The Versys is a great bike for it & there is no beating the price. I wish you the best in finding your new ride.

It seems like the nylon spacer linked to on HD.com is 1" tall and not wide at all. I'll have to go back to HD but for now I just have 2 washers below the door hinge and 2 above. Works okay, though I expect it would be easier to get the seat back in with the 4 washers above the door hinge to make that slot bigger than strictly needed. I also had to drill out the washers a tiny bit. 1/4" instead of 3/16" hole is recommended. Take the bracket with you to the store to ensure you get a door hinge with the proper hole spacing. I walked around my house holding it up to both exterior doors with 4 screw holes and interior/closet doors with 3 holes and they were the wrong spacing. Another comment suggested it might be a 2.5" hinge that is needed. I suspect that is correct, but I just used one I had and drilled out a new hole.

Just kidding. It seems like HD just has the first picture wrong on that listing for the nylon spacer.

I tried this, but ow the seat will not lock anymore... :( Is it too high then? Anyone else have this problem?

Mine doesn't lock as easily anymore but will go in if I fiddle with it a bit. Did you add more spacers/washers than I did?

Yes, the parts you mentioned are not easy available in Thailand.. Hinges are different, nylon spacers are bought a foot long, you cut the desired length.. Så i put a big bolt inbetween (had 2 in the beginning, but that was too high), It does lock now, not easy though and the sadle is a bit backwards aswell... I think i will weld the lock plate on a piece of metal and move it forward about a quarter of an inch.. Then it will lock again properly. Still thanks for a good mod! Will be driving 2500 km through Thailand starting tomorrow so i will know if it feels better in a couple of days :D Ride Safe and enjoy!!!

I wouldn't buy anything Kawasaki because I feel they fucked me with this seat on this versys X300 and you guys say all the vs seats suck I called them and really bitched him out several times about needing a refund on the seat so I can buy another seat with the refund but they would not do it I wouldn't buy anything Kawasaki I'm done buying Kawasaki products after that. Dude I can't believe you cut on your factory body when you go to resell it it's not Factory in the people are going to know that you should have just had your seat redone by a local upholstery shop

i had the same thing for 2 years. After about a year i noticed the paint was scratched off right where the seat was touching the tank. Then I noticed my seat was ripping right where the touching points were. Not worth it, you end up with a ripped seat and busted gas tank. I ended up buying an after market seat from Terry.

@@oneboyscout3653 Update: I paid $250 for the seat, BUT it was not comfortable.. I gave it a month to break in but it didn't help. I ended up trading it for a Corbin seat which i loved and used it for the next 3 years with no sore butt no more.

Under $10 with tax included 4 years ago but $14.77 today, Let's Go Brandon! Great video, copy the part numbers to home depo & let them fax you when they have gathered everything together, so easy I feel guilty about it.
