So I have been following this on making a flat board. I used sculptamould to give a bit of variation, then watered down PVA, apply the mixture and then spray with iso and then more watered down pva. It has worked out 90% great. However if you brush/rub it (firmly) large grains come off. I have adjusted the mixture to a 50/50 pva mix and more grout in the mixture. Will see how it goes on the second board. Any ideas on why bits are coming off? Any ways of fixing it?

I didn't dislike the video, but I did take a while to start liking you. Had a problem with the sinus issues... but, it isn't like you are doing it on your own, it is just the issue you have to live with. LOL I do find some of your advice for DIY components to be a little on the "seriously?" side. The time it takes to find the soil, dry it, sort it and add in the extras is expensive if you use a minimum wage for the time. It is usually 3 or 4 times more expensive than just buying it at the shops. But... I still note how you are doing it. I might want to do it just so I can say it is all home made. LOL Other things are pure brilliance. Thanks for the vids and advice.
@gamervince37206 жыл бұрын
So you think something is cheaper if you just buy it, instead of making it yourself, on your own free time, with cheap or free materials?
@BoWhitten6 жыл бұрын
At $10 US an hour (about minimum wage where I am) the time to do this with free material would be about $25 US. Buying the same ground cover would run about $5. So, yes... it is. Why? Because, there is no such thing as "free" time. I need to paint and build...
@BoWhitten6 жыл бұрын
Making the amount of terrain you do I agree with the cost:time ratio. And I also agree that it is probably better than ANY commercial product (I won't know till I make it! LOL). For the record, I watch your content because I think you have great ideas. On a single-user level I am not sure they are all worth the effort, but they are all worth knowing. Thanks for sharing them. As for the other issues... Like I said, it is what you have to live with, I only had to get used to it. Like any relationship (ha ha), there is a "getting accustomed to" phase. I have sympathy, but it did take me about 5 or 6 vids to get used to it. (Also, you asked for the input! LOL)

Hi Luke! Love your videos and how you have expedited so many processes within crafting. It has made the hobby so much more enjoyable, since you have shown how to practically remove drying times (patience is a virtue I sometimes lack to be honest). I do have a question though. I am looking to make modular set pieces for a gaming table, and the method shown in this video will help loads with making generic base tiles. Yet, I also like adding textured flock (pebbles and bits) to give more depth. Will this method allow me to do that, and still stack them for storage properly? If not, what are my options for storage? Also would love to see a video of how you manage to store all of your creations and still have room to step in your house. Lol Thanks again for the awesome content! Don't let the haters get you down. You are fantastic at what you do. :)

So it is dry soil and dirt or sand? Then lay down PVA glue and sprinkle mixture over that. then spray it with water down PVA glue. Seems like you would need to add water to the grout stuff. So maybe I just have it mixed up. Help Luke

Hey Luke, thanks for the video. I want to ask your honest opinion on something. I get annoyed when people start lecturing others on rattle can coverage “obscuring detail.” In my opinion, the ONLY way this happens is if you absolutely LAY on the trigger and BLAST the model.
