Very happy with how my DIY Fogbuster turned out. I'd love a real one but for a hobby cnc setup, it was too much of an investment. I used the cheap loc line mist coolant setups you can get from Amazon for a few years and while they do work, I was never happy with the control I had over the air and coolant. It always seemed you got all or nothing. Using a pressurized setup similar to the fogbuster means you get better control over the coolant delivery. Best of all, they can be built for very cheap!

Nice DIY solution. I have purchased a couple similar units from a company called Stupid Simple Tools. Their units go for about $170 USD and in my opinion are very well made and high quality. About half the price of the fog buster brand for the same setup.

good video! When you want watertight 3D prints use ABS and acetone bath to make it completely watertight. It melts all the cracks into a smooth surface

I've just completed my diy fogbuster. I used two 5 liter pressure sprayers (5 bar rated) for the garden. I removed the release valve and replaced it with the hose of the second sprayer set. Bought an assortment of push fittings and splitters, some tubing and a compressed air valve so I can turn on and of using the software or gcode. I got a nozzle with mixer at the nozzle. With very low liquid flow the fog turns into mist though. I think I need to keep the pressure of the liquid about the same as the air flow to keep it coming out as droplets. I also wat to experiment with another nozzle with just air at a higher flow rate to evacuate the chips and hopefully still libricates and cools. All in all it cost about 100 euros. All those components and tubing certainly adds up.

Made something similar myself by adapting one of those dual port blocks you showed. One thing that is good to add is a cheap pressure regulator valve, particularly in front of the coolant cannister. I found that not much pressure is needed there, but it's good to have plenty of air pressure going to the nozzle itself. One or two regulators gives a lot of flexibility when sometimes you just want higher presure air to blow chips away. Also, I added a relay controlled solenoid in front of my CNC air line so that air on/off can be controlled by the CNC.

I definitely want to make these upgrades you mentioned (separate valves for air and coolant, and relays). My setup still isnt perfect in regards to the coolant flow, valves should fix this.

Nice job. I actually filled my entire office building floor with fog using a Taig cnc for one hour. (no enclosure). I thought the fire alarms would go off. Then I bought the legit fogbuster and it was completely different.

a design change I would make is to use a cheap e3d volcano nozzle clone, and use that as a nozzle, not sure if it will work or not but worth a try

After seeing this video I’m going to try making one of these myself with an SLA printed mixer (hoping that won’t leak like FDM). I need to buy an air compressor and saw your video, but I’m wondering why you recommend a 35 litre compressor when this takes so little air? The Fog Uster site recommends a minimum of 5 Litres but I’m guessing that requires the motor to be run constantly? Thanks!

SLA could work well. Please let me know how it goes. The more air capacity the better really. I think 35l is good enough if you keep the psi around 1-2 bar. Lower the capacity the more you will run the motor. These silent ones can't continously and have usually 50% cycle time. Ie run fot 3 mins, cool down for 3 mins

Quick question: what is the thread size of the air / coolant inputs on the mixing block? I'm guessing it's 3/8 from the provided models, but I would like to make sure. Thanks!

Is it possible to create a nozzle where we can mix the coolant and compressed air in the nozzle itself, the size of the nozzle is not concerned, the nozzle should create both fog and mist in such a way for example just by adjusting/ turning the tip of the nozzle. Can you please answer my question?

Call me stupid but couldn't you have done the same y splitter with the Dual needle valve mr? And then you could have had a pressurized tank and not relied solely on Venturi. I would think you would get better control of air flow and fluid flow

This doesnt rely on venturi. The y splits 2 air hoses. 1 going to the pressurised coolant tank and the other goes directly into the air valve on the fogbuster

@@ThisDesignedThat I understand the joy of DIY but what I am saying is you could have simply ran your y splitter idea with the cheap Amazon venturi block thingy and not spent a lot of time with multiple designs and machining. This Is precisely what I did on my cnc. I bought the cheap $18 Amazon venturi system and system and then i wye off the air supply to pressurize the supply tank. Works perfect. Flow is very consistent and have 2 needles to regulate air and water flow.

@@joshuamazurek6746 If your system is anything like mine (and it sounds identical) the problem with the amazon ones with a 'paint sprayer' style nozzle at the end of some loc-line, is that it's a fog booster, not buster. I'll be making something like this to try and cut down on the fog...

I try to build one soon, I do like my mist coolant but it use to much air, would the mist buster use less air

Yes it uses 1-2 psi. Its just spraying a tiny stream of droplets onto the cutter to keep it lubricated. It doesn't blow chips very far because of this. Ive seen other builds where they have a 2nd hose that is used for an intermittent air blast to remove chips. I like this idea and will incorporate it into my design at some point

Its filmed from outside the enclosure so it cuts down noise a lot

excellent mist cooling set cost 10$. It's so damn cheap that you have to be stupid to design your own. I understand did you need subject for the KZfaq,

The $10 ones will make the entire room filled with fog. I actually filled my entire floor's office building with fog from a 1 hour job on my Taig desktop CNC. The legit fog buster is $300. I have both, its not even close. The $300 is definitely worth it. What he is doing is trying to recreate the $300 one, not the $10 one.

Why you connect bucket with cooling fluid to air 😂. You using Venturi effect so you don't need to do it. You should not do it. What a waste of money!!!!!!

@@ThisDesignedThat in company worry work everything see machine is over hundred thousands of dollars and every machine have same additional spraying mist system for 10 $. Thank you for wishing good luck. Those machines are making millions of dollars every year 😄👍

@@phredka12 thats fine when you are using industrial level air compressors, at home, hobby cnc do not have that type of air supply. You need something more efficient, fogbusters are excellent design because you only need 1-2 bar

@@ThisDesignedThat fog busters required 4-5 bar, because you need to cool the tool not to lubricate you need to cool it, plus you adding 20% of alcohol 75% of water 3% of oil and 2% of liquid soap for washing dishes plus 10$ for (fog buster) on alli. The 2 main purpose is to blow out the chips from working area and cool it. Management calculator in my company thay saving on cooling fluid over 40 000$ yeau when they processing aluminum with same tool life
