Part clarifications: “Base” = flange “Adapter” = bushing Everything else is right. When asking for these parts in the store, these corrections will save you some time.

Did you use an adapter to line the 1/2" floor flange to an electrical junction box in the wall?

What 1/2 to 3/8 adapter did you use? Would you share the link to purchase that?

if you want to use a regular light bulb, you could always change to a quart jar, that should fit, wide mouth jar rings fit all wide mouth jars

There are several videos around on using canning jars to make light fixtures. I certainly have not watched them all but to date, I have not seen anyone paint the lid and ring. They are going to rust if you don't paint or use a clear sealer on them.

I have been around canning jars and lids all my life, and I have never seen one ever rust. Unless it was left outside.

What about heat in the jar would it cause a fire when hot
@BestDARNComputers5 жыл бұрын
The light that he is using is an LED it doesn't generate near the heat that a incandescent or even a compact florescent. Even if using an incandescent light it wouldn't generate the heat required to start a fire unless there is an issue with wiring or some really defective lightbulb.

I have some of these in my new house I'm renting, but it's an old house, I don't think the mason jar glass fixtures require ventilation. Also, drilling into glass is really difficult and requires a special clamp and drill bits, etc. Usually there's enough ventilation at the point the glass jar meets the above fixture catches, I believe. LEDs shouldn't generate that much heat to be worried about.
