Rule 1: Avoid Noname, Unknown or Rewrapped cells (ultrafire, firepower, firefire, morefire, keeppower, efest, fenix) Rule 2: Avoid batteries from commonly used Sources like Ebay, Amazon & co. All genuine = overpriced, all cheap = fake or shit Rule 3: Dont ever pay more than 10$ for a 18650, most genuine go for 2-7$, rarely for 8+$. if the shop sells it for more, avoid it. check shops shipping to your location, even if they are outside your country. example: europe = nkon worldwide = gearbest

I have those blue ones on the right. I have had my 18650 lithium-Ion batteries for 5 years. They are still working perfect under load. I use them in my 6-wheel drive Autonomous Robot. It weighs 20lbs. Load current is from 500mA to 4000mA with speed controls, Mini Maestro 12 channel and a PIC16F887 for the brains. I still get 1 hour of running time

I also think that a link of where a good one could be acquired could have been part of this information.

We need people to leave bad feedback on the sellers and ask for money back to remove them from selling fakes, but anything over 3600mah is fake, but these companies will just label them smaller and still be 500mah. Just like they are adding weight to them so you cannot tell by weighing them anymore.

To pay the cheap price, you either get a real battery with simple outlook design , or get a fake battery with more fency cartoon design with alot capacity rating to make you feel happy.

Actually the max mAh are Panasonic 3400mAh and 3600mAh. Panasonic have also made prototype 4000mAh, but are not yet available to the public. These do not have low shelf life or low current output either, they are the best batteries you can get on the market (but also expensive). These have good protection boards and are made in Japan, the highest quality 18650's on the market as well as the highest capacity and shelf life. They cost up to 10x more than cheap lower capacity 18650's. The Panasonic cells with overcurrent protection have 8A and 10A current outputs, this is the highest of any protected cell and if you are drawing above this from an unprotected cell then it will lead to thermal runaway and the battery destroying itself.

There are several basements around the world where unscrupulous people spend their days washing and cleaning up "dead" cells and putting new wrappers on them. Don't buy anything that says it has a capacity of more than 3300mAh period. You can't cram that much Lithium Ion into an18650 case. More common are 2200-2600 cells, anything above that WILL NOT be $2 or less.

Nice video and huge diference between real an fake ones.You dont have right,when you say a high curret batteries doesnt have a much capacity.For example LG HG2 have 3000mAh and 20A continuous curret and I using them in my electronic cigarette and works well and handle the curret nicelly.

I bought about 16 of the yello/red UltraFire 5000mAH with Sheef-life !!!! About Jan2016, I have been using them in "torches" (LED flashlight) and everyone works great (LOW LOAD). But I got them thru some Amazon knock-off called DealsMachine. $1.49ea + battery shipping $5?. I could not believe mine were in the bad pile. But mine weigh OVER 40g. I am guessing the actual capacity is about 2000mAH, but not tested. What I find so funny is that someone just made those POSs and wrapped them with same label, Sheef-life. LMA,ROF (laff emogi))

The thing with these cheap 18650s is that were they simply to tell the truth about them some people would still buy them anyway and not be disappointed with them. I use these cheap cells quite a lot for things such as replacement cells in drills and to run small amps and things like that, they are cheap so you get a lot for next to nothing so you don't mind the low capacity. it seems daft they feel the need to lie about them to sell them, we know they are fake but they can have uses if only they told the truth.
