That's a very clean and straight looking Impala SS, all it needs is a new transmission, the leaks fixed and it should be good to go.

I have a 2011. It's a nice car and i do enjoy it. You put the work in it and i think you'll make money on it. I paid 8k for mine. Here's a little easter egg for you. Your back seat, if you lift it up has storage and the back comes down for added truck space.

I had a Monte ss same set up. They're fun to drive after a tune to turn off the AFM which will destroy the engine. Weakest part is the transmission. I still love those. Wish they were RWD

@@392vontay7 He never mentioned anything about a tune being bad, he mentioned a tune to turn off the AFM feature. If you're going to drop the transmission and your not in a hurry upgrade the internal parts and rebuild it yourself. If it turns out nice keep it as a fun toy, if you hate it sell it on. Like everyone says the DOD rockers and all that are problems but it isn't ticking so maybe the parts were upgraded or deleted already. Folks have made some good suggestions. I don't think those are super common now and it should be a fun ride. I love the pig 06 5.7 Charger RT I've had for a year now. Crap gas mileage but it's so much fun when you turn off the traction control.

I guess it decided to bypass the Powerglide mode that the 4L60E transmissions go into before failing. Would be nice if there had been a FWD 6-speed manual option that worked with the LS blocks... Could manual swap it then... Anyway, the headlamp option is the automatic bugeye mode for when you're coming to a stop. Headlamp pops out to provide a wider view... ;-P lol

I can't tell you how many of this gen Impala I had gotten over the years as rental cars. I prefer smaller cars but because of my business account with Enterprise They tended to give me unwanted upgrades. I always preferred the Impala over the 500 AKA Taurus. I liked the steering and the interior but when compared to a Camry the ride stinks. Of course every Impala I ever got was the base LS trim with the exception of one time when I was given a SS. I didn't notice the badging but I did notice it had a spoiler and leather. I was tired and jet-lagged but was completely brought back from the dead the first time I stepped on the throttle. Wow that bitch Packd-a-Punch! I had a lot of fun pushing down the Fl. turnpike that day even though the ride was even more stiff than the ls but I stopped having fun when a FHP Pig pulled me over but luckily I was able to talk my way out of the massive ticket I deserved. It also loved gas and I don't think it even got 20 MPG on the highway. It reminded me of something my dad who was a good ol boy told me once. He said Son sluts are fun but you never want to marry one because they were meant to be passed on to the next guy which is exactly how I felt when I handed the keys back to the Enterprise agent.

I drove a ton of these when I worked in rental cars. I guess when Avis and Hertz bought 500 Impalas or GPs from GM, it was dealers choice what got delivered, anywhere from GP SEs w/ plastic wheelcovers and Impala LSs w/ cloth bench seats to these n GP GXPs and GT S/Cs. The GPs had weird staggered wider front tires and Bilstein struts with factory summer Bridgestones (that Hertz would continue to rent in winter). The Impalas had supposedly SS specific suspension tune but felt as floaty as regular base LSs. These have the wonderful DOD active cylinder deactivation and all its lifter issues. The 4T80E trans is too weak for the engine. Even in 4 cyl mode, you were lucky to get 18 mpg in my experience. The "Bose" stereo seemed to simply add a brand name to the door speaker grilles. GM used the same head unit in everything during this era. GM used 4T80s in Northstar cars but IIRC there were lots of supposed changes to make it work in this platform and LS engine. Speaking of, they bragged about how many changes they made to the LS to make it FWD, like a shorter crank to fit the accessories closer to the engine and whatnot. This thing is begging for a 3.6/6T75 swap, making it a rare trim with the standard 2012+ drivetrain... but at least it would be more reliable. And that setup would be MUCH easier to source than a working 4T80 for this thing. The one W Body LS i never saw was a Lacrosse Super, they were rarer than the rest. Hertz had plenty of Lacrosse CXS, the first W with the modern HFV6 3.6, but in Gen 1 tune with only 240 hp. The Super was later to the market than the Chevy and Pontiac. The Lucerne CXS with the MR suspension and post-coarse thread pitch Northjunk was a neat piece, until they ruined it with the Super trim and uglier front end. The W Impala really became something decent in 12 when they added the gen 3 HFV6 and 6T75. Better economy than the old 3.5 HVV6, 3 more hp than the SS 5.3, way better suspension tune than even the SS (and you got the firmer tune in LT and LTZ, just not base LS). Maybe the 3.6 was just way lighter than the old LS or HV engines n the SS tune was used, idk. But it was a revelation. Of course no more bench seats after 11... ah well.

@@iij354 Damn... Drain a little fluid out unless it's already low and add the white bottle of Lucas transmission stop slip before the trans stops shifting. Will definitely buy the trans some time. Costs less than $15 at Walmart or any auto parts store.

Kinda want one, too bad it has the fwd cousin to the 4L60e. Would love to get a 6 speed manual if it had that option!

There’s one place in Greenville that would Rebuild it. The shop I use in Lugoff would rebuild it too. I would NOT use a used one. These barely lasted 40-60k. Way too much of a gamble versus a rebuild. Unless there’s a guarantee it has been rebuild. These are worse than the AX4N from the jellybean/football Taurus days. Too bad since the rest of the car isn’t bad and it’s decent looking!

Or you can part it out, those engines are worth a bit of money being the front wheel drive LS. From what I’ve seen in other videos they are a bit different from the standard LS.

Seems to be the common problem.. GM makes good engines, but transmissions not so much. Think the LS is to powerful for the weak transmission and burned it up. Even the 3.8 Buick V6 it's a fantastic engine but they are too powerful for there trans. They just burn up.

Could you do a video of a 1956 ford F100 if you can find one. I'm working on putting my old F100 together making it my daily driver and hotrod. Also thank you for subscribing you make amazing videos too.
