Barely half a day after these medieval arms vs. kevlar armor shenanigans appeared on the Kentucky Ballistics channel people were already bombarding me with requests to make a response video. So here you go, literally as quickly as I was able to. :)
Tests like that are always a blast, and this is no exception. Some of those "reproductions" though... yikes. That mace in particular... I've never seen a flanged mace so weirdly cobbled together. The spikey military flail was interesting though.

Biggest takeaway: If you're stuck with low-quality wall hanger weapons, go blunt. A crappy mild steel sword won't cut very well, but a crappy mild steel club will still club quite effectively.

The thing is while force of impact is Mass x Velocity squared, speed doesn't maintain power the way mass dose, think about a 6ft speed boat hitting a pier at 60 MPH compared to a 50,000 tone tanker at 5 MPH, modern armour is designed to stop a relatively light projectile at EXTREAMLY high speed, while old armour is designed to protect against high mass at low speed, neither is better or worse, just built to protect against different threats.

@@benn454 That one handed sword looks like you can make it work at least. Some proper grindstone work to fix the edge and make it actually sharp and it might do it. The steel seems to be decent spring steel judging from the flex during the thrust. @@eliabeck689 Yeah! So it was kind of the players' fault tho. My friend was having a turn of being the DM and all of us played League of Legends so we did a one shot at lvl 15 in Runeterra. We were tasked with stopping a person from opening portals into the void and causing void creatures to attack nearby settlements. We players deduced it was Malzahar and were asking the DM questions like "What patch is this on?" or "Has Malz gotten his rework yet?" So the DM made us take mental damage every time we broke the 4th wall. Eventually it became a running joke that if you question the DM at all, you take 1d4 mental damage. This is different from psychic damage because the characters in game take psychic damage. This was damage the player "took" outside the game and it translated to the unfortunate character who "hurt themselves in their confusion" like Pokémon.

Friend of mine used to be a bounty hunter for a Bail Bondsman. Was wearing body armor rated to the same level as what Scott is testing. Ended up in the hospital after the girlfriend of a target he was hunting got him through the chest with an Ice Pick. Went through the armor like it wasn't even there. A smaller impact area with a sharper spike will go through modern soft armor like butter. Even has a decent level of penetration on hard plates as well.

The thing about soft armor is that it doesn't technically stop bullets, it catches them. If a high powered bullet hits soft armor (or even some plates) even if it doesn't break through the armor it will push the armor's material through the target. We've seen this happen on some of Scott's 4-bore videos.

This is great, two of my favorite KZfaqrs in a single video. Couple things though PERHAPS... if a Normal Human was swining these things they wouldn't bend.. or maybe Skallagrim can advise Scott on some quality and reasonably priced real weapons so they don't bend when the biggest dude this side of Appalachia swings them. Seriously Scott is freaking huge.. his mediocre swing is still probably harder than anything I could do as I'm only 6 foot and just shy of 200 pounds. And yeah, maybe one day we can get a video of Skallagrim down in Kentucky testing out some firearms and Scot can swing some real weapons and then they can discuss their experiences and compare in real time. That's it.. Skallagrim and KentuckyBallistics collab.. who else wants this?
