I did this with my temporary shelter after the cover deteriorated so badly after three years that I had a new skylight with every heavy wind storm or snowfall! I did it just about the same way you did yours except I complicated it by bolting on 2x4 joist hangers on each of the rafters for the purlings. Topped it with a 3/8" OSB deck which was way too thin, furring strips and Grandrib metal roofing. I never got the walls done (had to move for a job opportunity), but the roof never leaked again and my brother-in-law said he had a heck of a time tearing it down. The roof came down in one piece! I love to see things repurposed. Nice job!

If you live in a high snow load area but you'll want to do is find some one inch or inch and a quarter conduit tube EMT to slip inside all your tubes to strengthen them and use a few sheet metal screws randomly pierce both to lock them together be sure fully goes into the corner and side rail sections as you go.

Checked out the 500W wind generator link ... was a little discouraged when I saw that the shipping cost almost as much as the turbine. Course, I haven't done any price comparisons at all so it may still be a more economical option. However, I don't mind paying more for something that's proven it's quality.

I like all your sheds and carports. I live in Western Washington and you got to get permits for everything. Anything over 200 sq ft. Such BS. ANOTHER reason to move to Idaho. Move to the great state of Texas. More fishing than you can handle, just arrive without any of that nutty Washington-california politics. I got a home a huge shop on 7 heavily tree covered acres with a creek running down one side full of catfish for only $110,000. I'm living at in the Hill country.

@@JOHNDANIEL1 sounds awesome. What part is the hill country? I recommended Texas to my wife but she can't handle the heat and humidity. Doesn't it get sweltering hot there in the summers? No, I agree, I'd come without these NW politics. Couldn't agree more. Lol. It's gotten so damn crazy here. That sounds like a great place WITH shop? Damn! Catfish are fun. I mean nothing like king salmon or steelhead, but how far are you to a coast? Plenty of good fishing out there. Thanks for the recommendation. Take care.
@JOHNDANIEL1

North Central. Near Comanche Texas. In Washington State your house would sell for an absolutely insane amount of money, and then here you don't need about a third of it to get twice as much as what you had. And as far as the humid Summers with so much money left over you got a hell of an air conditioning system to put in. The rest of the year is really nice the coast is only 4 hours away. And there's 10 more species of fish off the Texas coast that are a lot more fun than what's real common in those colder Waters. Plus we have hundreds of lakes. There's practically no building codes in the rural areas, it's your Land do as you want as long as you don't try to resell it you don't have to upgrade it to anything special code wise.

Neat build. Do you happen to have a video on the other two buildings you built? That old Harbor Freight one looks interesting and the overview sure was neat to see your design. You've definitely look like got the strongest design I've seen so far. Neat being able to use the fence top railing posts. That's handy and I've be debating to use. Just picked up a 10x17 HF one for $25 with the canopy, so will think about. Also, maybe a year ago picked up the nicer 2" pipe shelter logic 10x20 for $30 I believe, might have been $20... I forget and that ones a little rusty and needs to Locktite Rust Neutralizer after a little wire brushing and then some paint before I assemble. Was thinking just doing an awning like porch under my soffit with that and maybe on the side of the barn with the other half. Thanks for sharing!

@@JOHNDANIEL1 I found another video that also shows a little of your bigger building. Some detail there and glad to see similar re-use and repurposing potential items that'd get scrapped or taken to the landfil. Another thing I've been wonder about, is extending the life of shingles since that seems to be a huge waste. Seems like linseed oil or something maybe that'd polymerize oil or make like a synthetic rubber/plastic like material would be handy. Something that'd start off thin enough to be absorbed and fill all the fine cracks and holes and then polymerize. Been wondering about PET bottles and aluminum cans to make shingles also. Seems the larger PET water bottles would be useful... though some work. Neat to see some are using for making bottle strips that can be made into rope or 3D printer filament or ground to be extruded into stock or into molds.

Did you hold the whole thing together with screws? How far do the screws go into the conduit inside the gazebo poles? Would bolts be better in some places - that go right through all parts or is that overkill? I’m looking at building a shed like your one with furring. I want to keep as much length as possible - is it possible to strengthen it enough to keep it 20 feet long? I’m going to clad it in insulated panels so I can use it as a workshop as well, so that will add strength too. Interested to know your thoughts. Do you have a video that shows how your bigger sheds are constructed at all? Thanks

@JOHNDANIEL1 2 жыл бұрын
You start the cap after the first 2 sheets of roofing. From inside the structure on a ladder you can reach all screw points. Then add a sheet to each side, return to center point on ladder and secure those points, repeat. If you roof all on one side you can do it similarly by putting on cap fully one side then one sheet after another from the other side return to center and secure cap.

@JOHNDANIEL1
@JOHNDANIEL1 Жыл бұрын
Using a 3/16 bit I drilled through the pipes and used 3" roof screws from underneath to attach them. 2 per board/tube space. Only tighten firm enough to barely start to compress the tube, using gasketed washers ( #9x3 with roofing washers ebay.us/aml8LQ ) you can assure good compression and allow for material expansion and contraction without problems. Those can be used on all your tube to wood connections.

@@JOHNDANIEL1 And you used the tie straps to hold the boards in place to drill correct? What are your thoughts on using a bolt and nut instead of the metal screws?
@JOHNDANIEL1
@JOHNDANIEL1 Жыл бұрын
Yes, just temp them then use screws. The nearly hundred screws when your done is extremely strong. You can choose to use bolts, but they may require too much tube materials to be removed. The 3/16 bit is small, a 1/4" is much more loss. Plus, the screws I linked are designed for hurricane level holding strength and go almost all the way through the 2x4 above. You will have to watch them to grind off any that may.
