chemical guys have a lot of repetitive products (Do the same thing) whitch makes it seem more like a gemic hounestly thats just in my opinion, My product of choice is Adams 1. Becuase they have great marketing 2. Because the products wre best in the buissness, they have had a lot of experience and i feel like their products are thourough 3. You get the same and a lot of times even better results as AMMO NYC and they are not over priced.

How can you say they are the same without doing a longevity test? At least do a hydrophobic test. Hell, you could put turtle wax on there and it would probably act the same. Longevity is what separates products, along with hydrophobic properties. I bet you could wash those spots and chemical guys and adams would come right off after one wash.

You CANT do a longevity test. What works for 2 months in Southern California where there is little rain, and lots of sun, may only work for a month here in Boston where the streets are covered in salt six months out of the year. Also these are for "home detail" products. Many of the people using these are going to bring their car through a car wash which, as we all know, does not use PH balanced soap. The soap here on the East Coast is going to be worse than that on the West Coast, and certainly different then the Mid West. So when a guy in California tells me that a "sealant" has a life of 3 months, to me that could be a matter of a month to weeks.

Lmao bobby you are correct that harsher conditions will affect how long a sealents may last. a car parked in a garage will have clearcoat that last longer than a car daily driven, that's common sense. However applying 3 different products onto the same car, experiencing the same conditions, will give you a valid duration comparison whether your on the east coast or west coast. The question isn't how long does product A last. The question is between products A, B, and C which one will give you longer protection given they face the same conditions.

I’m not sure what this video proved. You got all that by the way it was applied and taken off? How well do they protect against bird droppings, acid rain, how long does it last when the sun is beating down and how well does it perform against water spotting. There was no testing done at all this was purely done by application, and ease of it being taken off and the way they smell? Plus I assume you know by now Ammo skin is a sealant. It’s also not $75. I wish real world testing would be done. I like all you do Jimbo and love the podcast you set out always great information and thank you for that but this video is very misleading and not fair to all companies the way this was conducted, especially ammo. My suggestion in the future is when testing products is put them in real world situation like rain, sun beating down, water spotting etc. This will give a better idea of how well they protect and not worry about water behavior, which really means nothing at all. Water behavior or water bearing does not equal protection. Jason Rose has mentioned this plenty of times.

I agree with some of the people in the comment section as in AMMO is a polymer sealant not a traditional paste or “butter” wax. You should’ve done Meguiars fast finish vs the AMMO skin. Those are two synthetic sealants that you could actually compared the longevity too. Even if the fast finish is a liquid in my experience with it on a retail level it’s water beading ability’s are insane and it makes washing your car so much easier due to it repelling dirt and contamination.

I love Chemical Guys (not saying Adam's or any other product is not good), all I use is their products. I've compared Adam's Paint Correcting Polish to CG's V36 Compound and I got the same results between the 2. My only complaint is they seem to have too many products, they have refined too much. So a certain product for a certain paint color, or certain finish or certain paint blemish removal, etc.... Fact is they are a very good product and I will continue to use until I experience otherwise.
@Pabla98
@Pabla98 6 жыл бұрын
I do agree that how easily a wax/sealant goes on and off is a big considering factor. But one of the main differences between ammo and the other two is that it’ll last you up to 8-9 months while you’ll barely get a month out of the other two products. That to me as a detailer is more important because the customer isn’t going to care how easy or hard it is for me to apply, he/she is going to care about the longevity. Ammo is about 4x the price but you’re getting about 9x the protection, while also still getting the easy application and wipe off. So in my unbiased opinion this test wasn’t as in-depth as it should be, it only tested one aspect.

I purchased the leather care kit. While the solutions are OK, the bristles on the brush for cleaning started falling out and shedding all over the interior after use on only 3 seats. I brought this to Chemical Guys attention and their response was "thank you for your feedback" and "welcome to the Chemical Guys family". No apology or offer to replace the poor-quality brush. I won't be a repeat customer.

Ive used all of these products before and while they do apply very similarly, that has very little to do with the value of a product. If you want ease of application just use optimum car wax. The point of Ammo skin is to provide protection, the point of adams buttery wax is to provide gloss/shine. There is no comparing the two, ive done it side by side on a panel of my own car and the adams product is gone in a few weeks while the Ammo Skin holds on for months. Not trying to bash this video but i do think the information in it is insufficient and not actually based on the performance of the products. You often get what you pay for, and Ammo Products are very good.

Just curious what you are trying to show here besides similarities in the application and "looks". Larry does mention that it's supposed to dry to a hard layer, but in his video, he does mention letting it sit overnight and not in sunlight for 15min. What "performance" are you judging? Application? Is this a joke post? What would have been a more complete video is if you would have waxed a third of the hood with each product and let them sit for a month, two months, three months and then tested for hydrophobic properties and beading. The application performance is not why people buy a certain brand or wax, it's the longterm protection that they look for.

I watched your new video and I just laughed when you were shocked the alcohol took off the product. Which it also took off the Megs. Then your comment about using Dawn was equally laughable. I also listened to your podcast about a week ago where you were clearly butthurt Larry refused to do your little show and then you subsequently create these two videos in the matter of a weeks time. You can say this isn't a bashing video but the tone of your videos come across differently. And look, I get it, Larry's stuff is expensive for some things and slightly overpriced for others. But he is a boutique brand, not a mass produced brand you can find at any corner auto store, Target or Walgreens. Do I think Skin is expensive? Fuck yeah. Is it worth it? Maybe not. There are a few of his products that I do find either work better than others I tried or I feel the finish is better. This is how I look at Larry's stuff, Matt with Obsessed Garage, or even your branded products. Is your hat worth $26? Could I find another hat that will shield my head from the sun and sweat that is cheaper? Sure can. But people that are willing to buy your hat, or Matt's branded shirts or Larry's products do it in support of the guy behind the brand. I have learned so much from watching his videos and Matt's that when I purchase something from their stores it's my way of giving back for all those free videos I consumed over the past year.

fair enough, and I agree - which is why I state to actually buy their product. If I was truly butt-hurt I would do a review on his whole brand and find issues with each product, that IMO would be brand bashing, because honestly he prob has great stuff in his line, this just happened to be the most expensive wax/sealant I could find. I appreciate your time to not only comment but go through and listen to my podcast and check out my shop. that stuff takes time, and time is a valuable, so i appreciate it.

@@atldesigns I have to wonder how much of that is an attraction to style, and presentation. I like Larry, and tolerate Matt, but these guys, and the like seem to be trying to glamorize the industry. Like some alternate reality where detailing isn't a dirty, laborious, tough task. In doing so, creating perception which is congruent to sales. Both of these guys were involved in some type of finance in a former life, and are using perception to market their wares. It is a genius endeavor, but who's the sucker here? When you're on a budget, or starting out a small scale business, or just taking care of the dd, guess what - everything you need is available at AutoZone. Directions are on the bottle, and they have hotline numbers people can call for assistance. It's not as mysterious as it's made out to be. I love and use Rupes tools, but 8 out of 10 times I'm using a Porter Cable 7424, with Megs Ultimate or Mirror Glaze, and buff and shine pads. Nothing at all unique, or romantic about any of the stuff I'm using. Basic get the job done stuff.

They all are polymer based waxes/sealants. They all do a similar effect to the paint. The difference will probably be on how well those polymer chains hold together between washes. 15 years ago when I had a show car we used Turtle Wax Ice and it was considered one of the best. When I bought my new Mustang and got back into the game last summer I did the research and bought all the fancy new products for crazy money including Adams, CG, and Wolfgang. They worked fine, but for the price I expected to be wowed by longevity and shine. This year I decided to give the old Ice a try, and honestly I've gotten more comments about shine and I know this stuff lasts months. There's a lot of hype around car products, but Meguiars and Turtle Wax aren't slouches just because they're sold at Walmart. The old timers will still shine a car, and their formulations have been tried and tested for decades.

Another question what does a finger swipe test tell you, how is this a comparison of cheap vs expensive when there are no real properties being evaluated except for a finger swipe test. Also, you say that Chemical Guys and Adams consider there products sealants, this is very interesting as I went on Adam's and Chemical Guys website and there is no mention of these product being a sealant. Also, Adams and Chemical Guys sell a true sealant which would be the proper product to compare to AMMO Skin.

Granted, the test could be improved, ideally apply the product on three different cars and drive them around for a couple of months and then do a full test on each one with a view to: Hardening characteristics; Melting point; Water repellency Resistance to breakdown. Having said that, I would love to hear from the pro-Ammo crowd what do they think justifies the almost 4 times price difference? Ingredient costs? That would be a solid NO. You can put in all the hyper space polymer, virgin reaped waxes from the Mariana trench and you will still have a 900% mark-up. Adam's makes money on a $17 bottle, so how much more do you think Larry spends on his formulation? Bottling costs? Ammo has probably more elaborate bottle and graphic colour, but come on:) Placebo/Halo effect? Bingo. Larry (and good for him) created a brand over time and the automatic inference that since he is OCD nerdy squared about detailing his products must be the best as well. It is that illogical transference that allows him to charge as much for a bottle of bulk chemical cocktail as much as an average bottle of perfume (and the perfume industry rules the mark-up equation) Good for him! Now go buy some Ammo products secure in the knowledge that you are washing your Mustang with the same brand Larry uses to detail a Ferrari 250 GTO. With all that I wrote in mind, I did / and will continue to buy lots of Ammo products but I welcome comparisons with an open attitude. In the end, facts are facts.

I went with all ammo because I’m too lazy to research each product. I bought the whole ammo system and know it’ll work because, like you said, I watch Larry use it on multi-million dollar cars. His videos on applying each product also is a nice bonus for the OCD but too lazy to research. I’m in a weird boat because I never cared about detailing properly but now have a car I really value so I’m starting from an empty product shelf and need every product. With all of that said, you’re completely right.

research the products, Ammo for one big reason is more expensive because you are able to put on layers of it and for best results should be left on overnight. Ammo skin was also designed to be one of the toughest out there, Larry says in his videos that it wont give you the most shine but thats because he designed it to protect your car as its first and primary function. his other products like AMMO Reflex will give you that next level shine. You'll get your moneys worth out of it because like what Chow said AMMO Skin last 3-4 months while the other stuff will come off after a couple of washes

I'm no professional, but the point of AMMO Skin is to be layered with Reflex first. Reflex is the base layer which is designed to expand and contract with humidity and temperature with your paint. Skin is meant to go over that as a sealant that takes the brunt of the sun, rain, and dirt. It also says apply in straight lines. The real test is after you drive your car in a driving rain storm how it looks afterwards. I don't think these 3 products are the same. You are comparing an apple to 2 oranges.

Harder to apply but gets you a great result. Adams is now my easy lazy option. I even layer them w Ammo paste as a base coat topped up w Adams if I feel like a quick session. No issue w CGs, seems some of the products work for me: some don’t. Good review 👍

I've used chemical guys for all sorts of products, found them to be very good. But I also use products from car pro, now those are excellent products. IMO. CG and Adams, probably sell tens of thousands of products, ammo probably a couple thousand, hence the higher price. There is one solution, if it's too expensive, don't buy it. A good test would be to check the car in a month, see which one lasts longer.

I’ve used Meguiars, mother’s, turtle wax, all the cheap box store stuff. I think their paint soap has a lot to do with the longevity of the wax as well. Large manufacturers cut their products with salts to increase profit margins. The soap doesn’t remove the wax. Ammo products are more expensive, because they’re done in smaller batches and don’t use the harsh chemicals other companies add to increase profit
