A mod motor is never the right choice for a ranger v8 swap. A carbureted 289/302 is by far the easiest way to go because it's small enough to not interfere with the power brake booster, allows room for headers, and can be connected to a wide variety of transmissions. It's also cheaper to build. You also don't have to worry about control modules for the fuel injection/timing. It's just easier.

What about 390 fe swapping the ranger. I have a 390 fe sitting in garage and also have a ranger with no tranny and motor but I have no clue if the 390 will fit
@treychastain46868 ай бұрын
@@drewskiient5071the fe block is extremely wide, much like the modular motor. I wouldn't recommend it. Plus for all the time and money you could make better power and have more reliability out of a sbf

@treychastain4686 is a 4.6SOHC possible though?
@treychastain46867 ай бұрын
@Novagunner sure anything IS possible but the question is, is it worth it. I think if you look up ranger with mod swaps there's a few out there. But ultimately the question what is your goal? Is your goal to just have something completely unique? Or do you want more power? Or more power reliably? What about more power, reliable, easier than most.
@jsimmonstx7 ай бұрын
@@Novagunner- Anything is possible if you have the will/desire/skill/tools. I have a 351 Windsor stroker in a 2012 Mustang and a 429 (not my fault) in a 64 Fairlane. One key to motor swapping for me is future maintenance. I can take the headers out of the Mustang without lifting the motor or getting under the car. In the Fairlane, I can't change half the plugs without lifting the motor. It's simply not a practical swap. I want to replace the engine with a 331/347 SBF.

302 out of a explorer, slap a 4v intake and carb pair with a c4 and install a 8.8 rear cause the 7.5 wont hold that kinda punishment, unless the ranger already has the 8.8. All depending on year. They make conversion kits that come with shorty headers motor and trans mounts.

I spent my stimulus check at the junkyard doing this ..all in 6000 countless headaches..and by the way I went with injection and 3/4 cam and HEADMAN HEADERS WITH SPACER PLATE. Looks like header without tubes . If you do this use ceramic header boots. And if you want injection Wiring will be a nightmare!

So another words what you’re saying, best approach is to buy the engine have it rebuilt go with your choice of transmission make sure it’s all right, get the ECU and any other components and that’s the best way

What do you think about the 3 L that came in the Rangers? Also, correct me if I’m wrong the 3 L five speed is the same five speed the 2.5 L version has. Hey man, appreciate your Content
@everydayirace Жыл бұрын
There's nothing particularly special about them, transmission out of a 3l will not bolt up to a 2.5/2.3, but the internal parts are the same. Thank you for watching.
@ChadR13 Жыл бұрын
@@everydayirace I looked up on the ranger station website and it explains that for my particular year there’s like a three year spectrum that the five speed fits 3 L and 2.5, but not the 4 L because it has the heavy duty transmission… in my truck right now I have a 2.55 speed it doesn’t seem like it’s quite slipping. I’m thinking it might be the pressure plate. I put one on last year and all they had was a self adjusting and I made sure it was adjusted before I put it on the fly wheel. It seems fourth gear just doesn’t have hardly any power. It could possibly be the compression I have not done a test first second and third are decent but fourth gear is lackluster in fifth which is a glorified overdrive is the same as fourth.. hey man have a good day🤙🏻

Do these conversions work for a 1999 Mazda B2500 pickup also?
@Midnight-tw3gp7 ай бұрын
They should, Ford ranger with the 2.5 and the Mazda B2500 are the same truck. Slightly different body panels, interior is similar but might be slightly different, and different badging. Otherwise, they're the same truck.
@ajhauter50492 ай бұрын
The number on the Mazda B-series is the same as the displacement of the engine in milliliters. All Mazda B-series pickups are completely identical to the Ford Rangers of the same years.

It’s been a while I have a rough idle on my 2.5 and a code p0352 andp0600does that means the pcm is damaged or it’s just the coil
@tubesteakjohnson Жыл бұрын
Check your IAC valve, 1st.
@everydayirace Жыл бұрын
Hey Junior, swap coils around, meaning install coil 1 in place of coil 2, and coil 2 instead of coil 1, each coil is held by 4 small screws, then erase the codes in the ecu and start the truck. If code p0351 pops up, means problem moved from coil 2 to coil1, that means that primary ignition coil is bad, replace the coil and the problem should be fixed. If the same p0352 pops up, means the ecu still having problems with coil number 2, and since you swapped coils around that would mean that both coils are ok and that the problem either with coil connector, wiring harness between coil and ecu, or ignition driver inside the ecu is bad. Do this and let me know what the outcome.
@juniorcuthbert611 Жыл бұрын
@@everydayirace so I changed the two coils and the eight spark plugs and the code is gone and trucks running good I still have a code that recently pops up and that’s for the o2 sensor is that a major problem?

Because there’s no way I would buy donor🤣 is there any pluses? To carbureted
@everydayirace Жыл бұрын
Pluses to a donor: You can drive it to make sure everything works, just about everything comes with it for complete swap, whatever you don't use could be resold. Minuses to carburetor: you have to buy aftermarket intake, aftermarket carburetor, fuel system, air filter, won't pass emissions in some counties, poor gas mileage, yearly carburetor rebuilds due to ethanol, poor resale value because can't register everywhere and most people don't know how to tinker with them.
