@@Sinsteel I delivered pizza for a time and the owner paid less than minimum wage under the assumption that the customers would make up the rest in tips, it ain’t right. Customers shouldn’t have the expectation of tipping people for doing their jobs and employers shouldn’t get away with paying a diminished wage to service workers with the expectation that the customer will bridge the gap… It’s a bad system all around. Sure some nights a service worker could make a killing in tips, other days they make under minimum wage because folks don’t feel like tipping, rightfully so they’re already paying for a meal.

I dont think its because they think this is how poor people live. There was one lady who was a millionaire on the show once. While you dont get to be a millionaire by spending money even though you have it, I think for some people on the show, they're ok with sacrificing comfort for wealth. They like having money just that much that they're ok ith suffering in the name of it. I think most people on the show live like this as part of some plan for the future like saving for retirement or they just like hoarding every dollar they can.

I can't talk for others, but in my case, it's just that I don't like wasting money on things I don't consider worth it. I am not into food and all my foods are carefully chosen to be the cheapest yet the healthiest possible, buying in bulk to save money. I don't go to restaurant because I don't like it. I don't flush the toilet once a week but like in the evening, I won't flush it between 6pm until I go to bed (mostly to not waste water, not necessarily about money). I do activities that are free or cheap: jogging, hiking, inline skating, swimming (I live near the beach). I don't buy any brands and I have the same shirts for like the past 10 years. Saving that money here and there allows me to spend my money on other things. For example, I bought an expensive brandy noise cancelling headset without carrying about the price, because I value silence more than anything else. Or I bought expensive skates because this is the hobby I spend most of my free time doing. I travel cheap but thanks to my cheap way of traveling, I can travel multiple times throughout the year. I have also enough money for emmergencies if needed, and thanks to that, without having an heath insurance, I managed to pay cash my brain surgery. So yeah, every body is different, but it's just that cheap people don't value the same things you value.
