This is part two of installing the cheapest ebay diesel heater with remote in our caravan.
In this episode i'll show you:
- How to install the fuel pump
- How to get the fittings into the tank
- The fuel filter I used
- How to cut the whole for the vent

Thanks great video, I am about to purchase one of these for my campervan for the winter. When you say you disconnect the LCD screen, does that fully disconnect power to the unit too? or just the controller? Ie.. If I put the LCD controller on a power switch, but left the main unit connected full time to my battery, would this allow me to switch the screen off at night (and when not in use) but still have the heater running?

I simply unplug the screen (there is a plug right near the screen). I do however have the screen on when using the heater. I am not sure which of the 3 wires you would switch and if it would keep the heater running or not. I usually just face the controller away from me or put something in front of it if its too bright.

If you have camper van and tap into the diesel fuel tank instead of this tank that’s all good yes

yes, lots of people do that. I believe they have a special fitting like a big straw which you put in the top of the tank for this.

do you get any fume smell from the heater or any safety concerns, would like to put one in my van but I'm paranoid about fumes etc

You can smell the heater when outside the van - a bit like a diesel car exhaust. I imagine if you left a window open above the exhaust you would get some smell. There is no smell inside the van at all. Lots of people run Co2 meters or whatever just to be safe.

What did you do with the fuel pump electrical cable? Run through same hole or took it thru new hole??

I put it through a new hole which involved cutting and rejoining the wire. After the install I learnt that there is actually a slit near the intake pipe on the baseplate which can be used for this. I've seen some other people remove the plug for the pump to avoid cutting the wires. This would be a good option as well

berko79 - yeah had seen the slit and was thinking to use that, but had not seen many people use this. Do you think the heat would cause a problem if using the slit??? It means that I don’t need to make another hole in the floor either. Thanks, loved the video

@@bradthompson1989 Yeah i think you would be pretty safe with the heat from the exhaust as long as it gets routed away from your fuel line and this wiring. If i did it again i'd utilise the slit for sure.

Why does the tank have to be in a dark place?

My understanding is algae in the fuel is the reason and it's accelerated if it's in the light. People do paint their clear table or replace them with non transparent tanks which would work too.

Seems to me you should not use the fuel line either. Also, proper hose clamps. I would just be really worried about the Chinese quality. It's one thing for the heater to break down, it's quite another for it to spill diesel fuel all over because of cheap lines.

If its the green flexible hose i've heard not to use it, if its the harder type hose its fine and mine has been fine. Clamps were OK, and i've had them done up and undone a few times. Been going for nearly 2 years now with no issues or leaks.

Get rid of that ridiculous intake silencer. They create more noise and restrict airflow. Get a decent air filter if you feel you need something. Something off a small motorcycle or stationary motor is fine.
