In this video I show how to put a custom firmware on the WYZE Cam v3 wifi camera to access the RTSP stream. I show how to add the camera to Blue Iris, the security camera management software and NVR. The WYZE cam is only around $30 making it one of the cheapest WiFi cameras you can use with Blue Iris or another NVR. The WYZE Camera features 1080p full HD video, motion and sound detection, night vision, two-way audio, and time-lapse recording.

Blue Iris already has a selection in the vendor list for the Wyze Cam v3 running the RTSP firmware. It simply requires the IP address and login credentials to add the camera.

Actually it does not. You need good partitioning/formatting program and you can convert any large SD card to FAT32 (default is exFAT). I just did after a quick google search to confirm and it works.

Nicely explained. I tried the Wyze RTSP firmware when it came out and it did not play well with my BI5 - frequent dropped connections. I hope someone converts it to ethernet with POE instead of wifi. That would be fun project. Love your content - just added Zerotier "VPN" network with BI5 as you described in another video. Thanks!

Good walk through. I had a lot of issues though, as I couldn't update the firmware. The purple light never came on. I found that you have to use a 32GB micro sd card or less for it to work. I had a 128GB card and that kept failing to enter the firmware update mode.

Great video. You mentioned putting the cameras on a separate VLAN. I've done this, however, for Wifi IOT devices like my Eufy doorbell, I have to have my cell phone on the same VLAN IOT VLAN which I don't like. I've set PFsense to not allow the cameras on the internet with separate rules. All of that to say, do you have a good way of keeping your cellphone away from the IOT devices? Thanks.
@learnblueiris
@learnblueiris Жыл бұрын
That is a tough one! One suggestion (outside the box here) would be to get an old iPhone or Android phone and have that be your "IoT control device" that doesn't leave the house. Only keep the IoT apps on it but no personal data or apps. iPhone 8's are still supported by the latest Apple OS (iOS 16) and they are very affordable on the used market. Other than that, it's difficult to control the devices on the same network without the device being on the network. Each device will use ports/protocols that would have to be opened up to your trusted network and that would be difficult to manage. As usual, thank you for watching and supporting the channel.
@SyberPrepper

@@learnblueiris Thank you. At least I'm not crazy. The only thing I could come up with is setting a bunch of inbound and outbound rules on the home firewall for my phone, on top of the rules to restrict the IOT devices. Thanks for the ideas and reply.

I have always read that Blue Iris recommends intel chips to run the cameras and that's what I bought.. an i7-6700 dell with 16gb of ram and m.2 drive. It's running all my 8 cameras with Deepstack and the cpu hovers around 22% (*not using substream)...but, recently I ran my blue iris setup on an AMD ryzen PC and with the same exact cameras and everything the same (I exported the config file).. the max CPU utilization I get is 3%...
