I hope this doesnt sound offensive but im so excited to see a black woman whos a nomad. Ive never seen it on youtube. I started thinking there werent any blk people ill encounter on the road. Of course im saying this because im blk also :)

I currently live in homes I restore. It might take me a month or two to restore a home. At that point I move to another house and start again. I don't have a van nor do live outside but, I'm still a nomad.

Thank you, thank you, Bob! Just this morning I was praying and asking God for a way to live and travel without having to get a regular job to the save money. I am so ready to get on the road, it almost hurts. I will be looking into this job, starting today. Also, I was always wondering if there were other African American people, especially women living the nomad lifestyle. I guess I knew there was but I haven't seen them represented as much. I am so happy to see someone who looks like me that also enjoys living on the road. I appreciate your channel, I watch it all the time. One day I look forward to meeting you in person! Is it just me or did she come across as well polished and knew how to express herself and answer all the questions you may have while listening to her. I researched this a few years back and the one thing that kept popping up was people being charged for damages after delivering the vehicle, sometimes months down the road and having to pay all or part of their earnings back. It wasn't just one person, but multiple after multiple parties claiming they had been blindsided. It was as if it was an uncertain scam between the transporter and the purchaser. The only way I can see past that is making a videotape after each delivery with a representative who works for the purchaser. Not quite sure if pictures would be as formidable. Another thing that was odd is for every 20 drivers or so they recruited, only a couple last after a month or so. High turnover rate is a huge red flag. In short, along with the mileage and earnings not adding up as some have noted, I wouldn't look at this as a way to make a living but a way to see the country after you finish making a delivery. But even after that, have a video to prove it was delivered without damage. Don't get ahead of your expectations. Be wise and think for yourself.

Lovely lady. She says she's making $60,000.00 a year at .83 a mile. That would be over 70,000 miles a year! She said in four years 'I'm coming up on 100,000 miles'. What's wrong with the math!?

What a wonderful way to live. She's perfectly fit for this type of lifestyle and shares it well. Needs her own channel for sure.

Great to see another transporter on here. She is exactly right, it's a great job. No time clock, nobody looking over your shoulder. I transported for a few years but retired last summer. I actually have my tow car for sale and it is decked out and a real money maker. Maybe I should do a video on it and link it to you here. Thanks Bob.

My brother used to deliver RVs, the RV company charged deliveries to my brothers delivery account that he didn't deliver. Anytime one of the white collars from the RV company wanted to take a vacation they took an RV to Florida or wherever they wanted to go and then charged it (plus gas) to my brothers deliveries. He never knew until the Feds came to my brother for the taxes due.

This is the coolest woman. She's awesome.

I was so excited when I watched this interview, I said finally something I can do and enjoy it to. I went to the website mentioned and they require CDL, 20,000 miles of over the road experience (not vacation miles but related work experience) for driving one of the motorhomes. If you have a pickup it must be 3/4 ton duel axle Diesel Equipped for 5th wheel and travel trailer and many other items, too many to number. And the 100's of warnings that RV hauling in general is not profitable. Well at least I got excited for 29 minutes

Hi Bob, Very informative! Glad to see her doing what she likes....I once had a camper ( small) delivered from Iowa to South Carolina, they cost was right at 1000 dollars and fellow from outside the Chicago area picked it up and since it was the summer, he brought his wife and kids too. Im pretty sure he was a "hot shot" hauler but he didnt have any special licensing other than having enough insurance to cover a fault of up to 100,000 dollars. So essentially he just had some liability insurance coverage and a dodge diesel truck...not bad money for about three days of driving, some diesel fuel (and save a little out of each haul to buy another truck one day). He actually worked out a web site as a private hauler, and the customer/s would list their specifics they need moved; where and when and he would bid on the jobs. Hope this may help some folks thinking about other options

I would absolutely LOVE to have her job!! Holy crap, HOW do you even get your foot in the door for something like this?? I could do this happily until I retire. Like her, I find driving to be very therapeutic, I have a passion for driving, I love traveling, I love RV's, and my dream in life is literally to live out the rest of my days in an RV camped out in the woods somewhere. I too have no vehicle so I would have to start out like she did, but this kind of job would allow me to save up to buy a vehicle just like she did... I am trying not to get too excited about this, but this seems like exactly what I have been looking for to fix my financial problems and give me some kind of life. I mean really, doing this job would definitely lead me to the goals I so desperately want in life. I've always been held back because of having health issues that make it very hard for me to hold down a steady job. This is something I could do despite my issues. Other than the place she mentioned, Are there places you can contact for driving and delivering RV's... or do you just google what she said and look into it that way? Would love to seriously look into this! I just don't have the foggiest idea who you even talk to or if you need to know the right people to get your foot in the door. Any information you have would greatly be appreciated. That being said, GREAT interview! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. :)

wow I would love to use my class B cdl to work the summer months transporting RV too. I drive school buses during the school year and I already van dewell.

I know this video was a few mos ago but, It's nice to see this woman doing something she enjoys. I have no desire to drove anything bigger than a truck or van across country unless it was my own RV. But it works for her and that's great.

What she's saying is true. I used to work for greyhound and a number of these drivers commute to pick up and drop off these rvs. They all said it's great money in it.

Thanks to this video I started delivering RVs about 2 months ago, and I LOVE IT!!!!! Feel so much more "free" and love the fact that I get paid to travel.

I was seriously looking into transport after retiring from factory work in 2010, but couldn't find anyone that was driving other than the company video. This is encouraging, thank you for posting this and the lady for sharing. I been driving a school bus for the last 6 years so have a cdl.

She doesn't tell you how much she spends on motel rooms. You are absolutely not allowed to sleep in those rigs. Food costs on the road are high, you are absolutely not allowed to use any of the appliances, shower, toilet, ect. you see where this is going? Any and all expenses are on you.

$100k/year? Bull! I spent two summers doing this out of Elkhart, IN. Worked for Horizon Transport myself and I guarantee you no one has ever made anywhere near that kind of money delivering RVs. You are paid a flat amount depending on distance involved and you have to buy the fuel to get to the destination, as well as costs to get back... Also, you have a set time limit for deliveries, so there isn't any time to 'vacation' on the way to delivery, and you are certainly not allowed to stray off the shortest route, so detouring a couple hundred miles to visit Yellowstone for example is not an option except on the return trip. I drove deliveries a couple times to Alaska, but mostly to California, and it was a great way to see the country. But there was very little money left at the end of the job/trip. I enjoyed it greatly, but if you think you're gonna make big bucks doing it, you will surely be disappointed.

Math doesn't equate. 4 years of driving she states 100,000 miles driven x .83 a mile = $83,000/ 4 yrs does not equal the stated $50 to 60 K Net per year.

I find people relating as to how they escaped from employment in the corporate world really interesting. Jay seemed to accomplish this quite seamlessly and in the process, created a whole new way of living whereby she's in charge. Congratulations, Bob, on one of your very best interviews. You sure do ask the most pertinent questions.

Bob another local driving job. When my lease was up on a car I received a call and was given a time and date that the car would be picked up, so a van pulled up to my house about 10 people in it and a guy gives the car an inspection I signed some papers then a guy gets out of the van and drives the car to a yard across town to get cleaned up before auction. I was thinking that would be a good retirement job.

People be carefull, the numbers don't add up. These RV's average 8 to 9 miles a mile with tail wind. The average gallon of gas is 2.20 or more for diesel fue,l so that averages $0.26 per driven mile. So now we have a whooping $0.57 per driven mile on only one way and you have to find a way to get back to Indiana. in order for her to make $60.000 on a 1099 pay she would have to drive about over 200.000 thousand miles a year. Not to mention full taxes, no benefits an that wonderful 10 % bond to cover the didactable on cargo and liability insurarance that should be paid by the carrier. She is probably a recruiting agent for HorizonTransport. Do I need to say more?

She sure did paint a pretty picture. I've been there, done that. It's not that pretty. Mentioning that she sleeps in the RV was not wise. I've known a couple of people that lost their job (contract) because they got caught sleeping in the units. Anyone interested in this line of work, do some more research by talking to another driver. Not the transport companies, because they fill your head with all these beautiful opportunities that don't exist.

How does she hook up her car to all these different trailers? They don't all have tow bars.

Yea OTR big rig truck drivers are slaving away only to make $40k and $60k on the high end. There is no way delivering RVs will earn more. Otherwise truck drivers would be flocking to it.

What a nice lady! I never realized that the RVs were personally transported, but now that I think about it - of course! Not like there's a big hauler for RVs like the ones for cars. This was a good video - thumbs up.

Everywhere you go in this country people would love to make money like this. You may drive around alot but you wont make any money... don't be fooled!

I find this hard to believe. When I was in grad school, I almost went on a trip from LA to New York with a friend. He decided to finish with just a masters and I decided to continue with my doctorate...but we were friends so I was going to accompany him on a cross country during winter break. He found a gig with one of these companies and we were almost going to do it. But I backed out once I realized how much of an exploitative situation these companies put you in. My friend did the trip alone--paid for hotel, gas, food. He had to be at his destination within a set number of days--only enough for maybe one slightly out of the way trip. He got no pay out of this. It was just the use of the van. There are so many restrictions and you also assume too many liabilities. So yeah, no way.

I did find one "issue" (for me) on the Horizon website. Under Drive-Away Division Driver Qualifications (say that 3 times fast) was this little tidbit: "Driving experience: No commercial driving experience is required to become a driveaway driver. We do, however, require you to list at least 20,000 miles with a larger vehicle such as a Motorhome, U Haul Truck, Ect., Please list all of your personal and or professional driving experience on your application. Picture of the larger vehicle you drove may be required for review." How does one get 20,000 miles of experience?

I seen this and nearly spilled my coffee all over everything! Apparently she didn't take accounting or study of economics. We did it for a few years and could see pretty quick that it was a break even or expensive hobby at best. Most of the people who live in Goshen and Elkhart IN know the RV industries dirty little secret. The reason you get 50 to 70% up front is that it takes at least that much for fuel. If you encounter bad weather and have to get off the road your expenses increase and winds over 25 mph you have to get off the road! Break down and your on your own. You have to keep a log book and roll in weigh stations and pay your own fines if you made any mistake or if you are over weight. You are treated as a big rig truck driver by DOT. You don't stay in a hotel because you can't afford it! YOU are responsible for anything even a small scratch your fault or not... that's why you keep a 1500 bond. The dealers want you to wash it so they can find anything to fault you or the manufacture with. You have to wash most units. The dealers, manufactures and dispatch companies don't care about the drivers at all. Most people love doing it so much they refuse to see that they are going deeper and deeper in credit card debt until one day they sober up. You can tell she doesn't have any idea what she really makes in a year. LoL, I can tell you its nowhere near a net of $100K and not at all $50K. those may be gross figures but truly nowhere remotely close to the net figures. I guess if you are homeless it may seem like a thriving life!! ... Horizon? Really! LoL!!! I don't think so, go around and talk to some of the drivers or go to some of the forums and get a taste of the word on the street I had nearly 200,000 miles under my belt before I had to quit to keep from losing any more money! But the industry keeps selling it as a great way to make money!! LoL!!! .... it is fun at first but you won't make money in the end

I think this lady is giving out bad info here. I have done drive away with a Class A CDL and she is not making what she said. When you are paid one way miles you are responsible for round trip. Not always is a delivery available where you drop off you might get stuck driving 1000 miles or more before getting another truck / rv. Also regardless of license class you are required to follow Federal DOT Rules which means running a log book and drug testing. So you can not just go crazy driving whenever you want.

Jay has got it going on! She is making more than a lot of working age Americans. This is better than being a truck driver.

I heard of a story where one of these drivers was delivering a brand new 5th.wheel and while going down the highway some part of a wheel tire. Axle combo came off the unit and hit another vehicle. Now your gonna say because it was new Lippert who makes the frames and axles for these campers would be responsible, well they are not, the driver was charged for not inspecting the 5th. Wheel before leaving. I have driven truck for over 30 yrs. you as a driver are responsible for anything that happens. So you need to carry some hefty Ins. to cover your ass.
