Lisa manages to live on $250 a month by living in her SUV. Surprisingly, she is very happy with her life and would change very little about it! She is not to be pitied, she is to be envied because she is as free as a person can be in this unfree world, land and she has peace of mind, which is worth any cost!

Well, it could also come across as very wasteful. Every time something breaks it creates a demand for more products. More products = more waste. So, why not spend a little extra on a quality product that won't break for a while. I understand you can't really help if something glass or ceramic breaks, but other things, yes, you can. Just my two cents...

Thank you Lisa--for proving that it can be done. You make it look so easy! Many thanks for inviting us into your home and explaining how to set-up your genius "throne", coffee service and shower. It's all so practical and makes so much sense when Lisa explains it. Between the both of you, even I could be comfy living the nomadic life and savoring my surroundings thriftily. Bob - does that include health insurance though? That's the big cost I can't seem to eliminate in my calculations, and it goes up so much each year that a fixed income can't seem deal with it in the long term. Otherwise I seem to have a sustainable long term low-cost plan figured out.
@IMSiegfried

Of course it depends on the situation but... I believe someone said they are able to receive health insurance through Arizona because they lives under the poverty level with their SS income. Was it Lisa? I watch too many of these videos to remember. :-) I assume you're talking about Medicare being too expensive on a fixed income? I know I spend a lot for it and Part D insurance and still pay a lot for monthly medicines. Oh, also someone said they found their health insurance via something like RVinsuranceDot.Com I think it was. There must be a way. Let me know if you find out anything. Thanks
@SimplyLesa
@SimplyLesa 7 жыл бұрын
I live in Arizona and my income is under $1000 per month. I am permanently disabled and receive my income as an SSDI check. I qualify for Medicare which is federal health care . Because my income is under $1000 per month I am eligible for Medicaid (called AHHCS in Arizona) which is state health care. There is a fedrally funded program called QMB that allows states to pay any costs associated with either program. In other words, my health care is no cost to me.

That was freaking awesome! What an interesting and strong woman. I hope I meet her on the road. You know, it's all about attitude and recognizing what is important to you. I have a friend who is very into possessions and yet she's so unhappy and depressed. We've had so many talks where I try to impress upon her that people and experiences matter way more than money and things. And yet SHE looks at ME like I'm crazy when I talk about the freedom and contentment that comes from minimalist living. Oh well. Maybe someday she will learn. Looking forward to the video about the stove. And yes, would kind of like a break down of Lisa's expenses if she's willing to share. That's highly personal info though. Thanks Lisa and Bob.

Thanks for this video, Bob and Lisa. I know we can all live on less and have a GREAT life on the road and out in Nature. The idea is to live and enjoy life, to touch some people along the way... not work 8 or more hours a day, be in a vehicle you borrowed money to buy, to commute to your job more hours a day, to do what? To pay for a place to live that is just a box that holds the stuff that you buy working a job that makes you sick and makes you tired grumpy and awful to be around? And to what end? To retire at 65? And die at 65 and a day from old age and overwork? When do you get to enjoy you life? We have been full timing since mid November 2016. A couple of people kept asking, "Are you sure you're okay?" Don't let the negative people and negative comments get to you. People will either get it or they won't. Will either embrase a life free and full, and small and rich, or will continue to moan about their own life while they question your sanity. We are looking at something beautiful every day, the small things, the blessing of good friends you meet along the way. I need to reject my money worries, my lifelong anxiety as unnecessary and embrace the happiness I feel when I see how life has changed for the better. Baby steps for me. But it's been 2 and a half months and are we happy? Yes! How great! Life is Good.

Thank you Bob and thank you Lisa ! Very helpful and lots of good info. I too am on limited fixed income and after paying bills have about the same to actually live off. You were very brave to do this video. Thanks. Don't know if I would have been so brave and forthcoming. And ignore the haters. If you think about, it how miserable to have so little in life that your focus and entertainment is to attack poor people 😜

A truly brave and ingenious woman who reminds me of my grandmother's who lived during the depression of the 1930s. It didn't get them down, they made do and lived their best. Good for her!

I have so much respect for her and all others who are dealing with financial challenges and who chose this life instead of adopting a "poor me" attitude, falling through the cracks and ending up on the streets as 'homeless'! She is so inspiring! Makes me look at all the stupid stuff I have accumulated as part of our consumer society and feel that my desire to travel and stumbling on your channel has helped me wake up. I will never full time at this as I am financially comfortable but I will be part time as a Cannuk snowbird when I finally retire! plus my provincial health benefits mean I must be in the province half-time... This lady inspires me! Thank you for telling us her story.❤️

Bob, these videos are so helpful and inspiring. You have been such a huge mentor for so many and what a blessing that is for all of us! I know I can absolutely do this no matter what I am driving thanks to you and the wonderful people who are sharing their personal stories like this one in particular. The set up she has looks to be very comfortable and the routine she shared with us is a comfort as well. I love that she is happy and so is her ADORABLE little Ozzie! She also pointed out as you have many times; friends that you make who are living this lifestyle are so very important. We all need a support system. I've told you many times before and will say it again, how wonderful these videos make me feel and how much I look forward to the next one! I wish you health and happiness! Your biggest fan, Tammie

'You can live comfortably in a small space by thinking like a backpacker." FINE ADVICE. If I were to start out on my nomad journey tomorrow or next year, it would be in the SUV which I now have. So, seeing this is sweet music to my ears. Thank you. . Of Course, you Do Have To Be Careful. Oh yes. .

I use to spend about a week living out of my SUV at the county fair. We showed dairy goats. I'd milk the goats and put in a starter culture of yogurt and made "dashboard yogurt" because the car got hot during the day. Made great yogurt. Might not look too comfortable but when she lied down reminded me how it was cozy sleeping in the SUV. We used the heating mattress pad on low setting, from my daughters twin bed plugged into a combo car starter/outlet type portable thing. Slept real warm. Bathed in the horse trailer with jugs of water. We were allowed to have a one burner electric cooking element in a designated are in the building. So I guess I already tried this lifestyle and did not even know it. Wasn't really bad at all.
