Today we take the tour of a very nice Promaster Van that was almost entirely built my friend Harriet. She has 400 watts of solar and running water, including a shower, Natures Head composting toilet and kitchen sink. She did a fantastic job and I’m sure you will love it!

What a great build, Harriet even has a bathroom. I like that she is going to tow a small trailer with her to house her extra things. I would want one of those little washers as well. Her electrical system is impressive. Harriet is really inspiring for us women! Thank you Bob!

Hi Harriet I just watched your van tour and I am very impressed. I am planning to embark on The Nomad lifestyle however I would like some encouragement and advice from someone such as yourself. I'm a mom too ready to give up my nest has it really doesn't serve a purpose anymore. Is there any way that you could contact me? I would really like to know what you did before you transitioned to actually purchase your ProMaster. Maybe I need to do that step like you did or eliminate it?

She has MC armored cable for the 120V system. I always suggest people use this, because it is so much better for an application where things might be bouncing around (or mice could eat the wires). She was the first I have seen to use MC. One thing bothers me, after another review of the electric system. There is a MC feed to a outdoor rated box beside the water pump - good. However , the 120v electric wires from the pump are hanging unsupported and not enclosed. It would have taken just a little more work to run a piece of flex to the pump and do it right. Oh well - at least it is a short code violation. And why is the container filled with wire straps sitting by the breaker box? A few of those need to be installed on the MC, where it it isn't supported (code says within 12 in of the box).

Dear Harriet, Is there anyway I can connect with you on your travels. I'm 65 years just starting out and don't know where to find other nomad communities or Bob could give me advice on how to locate the upcoming events would be awesome. Leaving out of Easley, S.C. on January 17th. Will have to stay close by because of an upcoming back surgery and setting up appointments with my doctor for every two months until I can work something better out. ❤

Everything is hard until you do it once. What is hard is getting up the gumption to try something we’ve never done before. The electrical system intimidates me because I have no experience with electrics. I’m going to start somewhere easy like wiring my max air fan. Then the next step. Eek!

You can learn pretty much anything on KZfaq, it’s been a big help for me ! I’m not a member but “skillshare” has a free trial from some KZfaq channels and it’s only $10 a month and you can learn anything in a detailed class with an instructor, online ! Best of luck to you !

If Harriet's son would like to stay in the home, I recommend that she consider renting the house to him instead of selling it. Being a grandma myself, I have been looking at sleeping options for the grandkids. I have looked at hammocks, drop down beds, so many things. Every summer, for 16 years, I have taken one (and sometimes 2) kids on an adventure. Not Disney type adventures but something fun. If she is considering pulling a trailer, she might be able to do something for the grandkids while she is at it. At first I thought "I would not want the little ones in a separate vehicle" but then I thought that if I locked the hitch and backed the van up to the back of the trailer, I could open the back of both the van and the trailer and clamp the open doors together to create a tunnel and cover the tunnel with a roof of sorts. And that may not be practical. With 1 grandkid at a time, they could sleep in the van with grandma. My 20 year old grandson would not care if we crashed on the same bed, though he would take a sofa if given the option. Truthfully, though he is with me here, between jobs and classes, we have not been able to do more than a weekend for a couple of years. And maybe Harriet likes the idea of hanging out with them all day and then sending them to their own bed in their own room when the day ends. Just thinking out loud. Fantastic van!! Thanks for sharing. And, WELL DONE HARRIET!!

In true vagabond sprit, this wonderful woman is so much like me and my grandparents before me, who bought one of the first Airstreams and traveled until they expired in separate RV parks in AZ, a state they both loved. I’m currently in the midst of a Promaster van build and will hit the road in the next 2 years after I retire. I think to myself, I should buy a lot to park one day permanently, but I reach for community and ask, what can our RTR community create that is even better for seniors? We are a community, after all.

Nice build Harriet! Hoping to run into you and Bob sometime at the RTR! Just sold my home here in Florida and working towards that partial retirement this upcoming new year! I do hope all of our paths cross again soon. Hugs from Florida!

Really nice! I like how the bed is kind of closed in, so it feels like a separate room. And then the front is all open -- doesn't seem like it would feel cramped at all! Very talented lady.

Brilliant, really amazes me that she did this work in her van by herself. Quite inspiring, love it👌💕💖

Like you said.. one step at a time. I like the shower idea and how you utilized the space.

This is my favourite van conversion so far on CRVL. I have the same van but it is a Citroen with a 2.2 turbo diesel. Gets about 32mpg on a good run, UK gallons are bigger than US gallons.

I wish my mileage came even close to that. Depending on weather, terrain and how I drive i get between 10 and 22 mpg. But I think the overall average is about 14. This is a Promaster 2500 6 cylinder and uses gasoline.

She reminds of the main character from Mamma’s Family look-wise ✌️🌷 Nice build she has done, too fancy for my budget; but it is well setup for sure.
